  1. For anyone interested, Andy has emailed that all games for Tuesday are on as scheduled. He did indicate however, that there are some field changes and to check the brackets upon arrival at the field.
  2. Chick, Shane told me at practice that he saw where you had stepped down. I hate it for the Sport of Softball and all of us that have known and fought MANY battles against you and Andy. You are a fearsome competitor and that quality is always reflected in your players. You have always seemed to be able to get the absolute best out of whatever talent level you might have had in any given year. Having known some of your players over the years, they have always remarked how much they "LOVED" playing for you. That, my friend, is your Legacy. I, (and I know I speak for Shane), will miss you terribly. For whatever reason you have made this decision, we wish you the best with it and hope it is everything that you want it to be. God Bless Ol'Buddy Bert
  3. Game postponed until Tuesday at 7:00. Our OF needs a day to dry. Weather is "suppose" to be great tomorrow.
  4. Tentative decision has been made to move the game to Tuesday at the same time. Lot of water on the tarp and the OF is real soggy. 40% chance of rain after 1:00PM today. Little chance tomorrow. Taking the tarp off and replacing it at 11:00 and will make the final decision at that time.
  5. Dickson County High School will be hosting a Region 5AAA game on Monday, May 17th (weather permitting). The game will be between Dickson County and the runner up of District 9AAA which will be Beech or Wilson Central. Game time is 6:00PM.
  6. Can someone please provide the time ot the WC vs. Beech game today. Also what is Plan B in the event of inclement weather?
  7. As of April 12, 2010 42 games As of April 12, 2009 30 “ As of April 12, 2008 34 “ As of April 12, 2007 34 “ As of April 12, 2006 34 Don't penalize the Warriors for being a solid Softball program. They get most of there games because they always seem to hang around a long time on Saturdays when most of us have been sent home already. As far as this year is concerned, who would have ever thought that the Hendersonville Tourney would have been played Monday - Saturday uninterrupted by weather. I bet they added 15 games there.
  8. From a "LOCAL" Coach's perspective, we did truly enjoy the format. Having the opportunity to get in 7 inning games was huge but traveling from place to place and catching teams in their home environment was equally beneficial. Additionally, as someone mentioned in an earlier post, Saturday would have more than likely been a wash if we were scheduled at a city park. I'm sure that the Riverdale Coach's have heard your plea for change and will make the necessary adjustments to entice the out of state teams to return. In fact, I would be willing to bet that once the word on this tournament format gets out, the out of state entries will explode.
  9. Hmmmmmmm...................Well lets see??? Sounds like you have a choice to make. Travel nine hours and be irritated with the format or................. maybe, just maybe, find another tournament to attend. Based on your apparent disgust, the decision seems pretty simple to me. Just saying????
  10. Congrats Lawrence County! Loved the format! Weave sign Dickson County up again next year.
  11. (Don't know what happened but I continue) As the season progressed, we lost our fire and fell into a period of complacency where we allowed some teams to hang around and beat us. But after we suffered our 10th loss we dug back in and showed just what we knew we were capable of all along. It is hard to coach 'HEART" but these girls brought the "HEART" the last half of the season. Yesterday, the "HEART" was still there but the intensity was gone??? I look forward to next year. We lose only ONE VALUABLE SENIOR so hopefully we will contend again.
  12. To be among the elite 8 (per classification) that make it to the "Dance", from the District Tournament forward you have to take care of all the fundamentals of Coaching, Pitching, Catching, Fielding, Throwing, Hitting and Running. Then, on top of all this, the sun and the moon have to line up just perfectly. A mere hiccup in any of these areas is the major reason why some of the best teams in the state don't advance to the "Dance". At this point, you have Coffee, Lincoln, Rossview and Ootewah to mention a few that are going to have to buy a ticket to the "Dance" and by Friday there will be 8 additional teams that probably deserve to go that will have to do the same. If you are ever fortunate enough to get there.....believe me.........YOU DESERVE IT!A very good Wilson Central team came into our house last night and TOOK away our opportunity to advance. They jumped on us early with 2 runs and sealed our fate with another run in a later inning and we never answered. Greenwood pitched a tremendous game! She did a really good job of keeping our hitters off balance. We got one runner to third and that was our only threat. You can't forget your bats like we did and expect to contend for state. Congratulations Wilson Central on a well deserved win. Good luck tonight and Friday. We are very proud of this Lady Cougar Team. We started off very hot at the beginning of the year in Gulf Shores and we thought this could be the year. As the season progressed we fell into a complacent
  13. Softball field is located at the school. the best way to access it if you arrive after 3:30 will be to turn right onto N. Charlotte off of 70W. Go about 1/4 mile and turn left up the bus ramp. The Softball field will be on your right as you go up the hill. If you arrive before 3:30, well.................... DON'T.................... you will regret ever putting yourself in that traffic mess.
  14. The regional contest between Dickson County and Wilson Central has been rescheduled to be played tomorrow at 6:00PM. Dickson's infield is tarped and in good condition but there are places in the outfield and baseline area grass and that have water standing and need some drying time. The sun is out and the wind is blowing. Just what the doctor ordered.
  15. District 10AAA play in will start tonight. At Rossview at 4:30 Rossview will play Northwest, at 6:00 Northeast will play Henry County and at 7:30 Dickson will play Springfield. Kenwood and Clarksville will play at around 6:30 at Austin Peays field. Play will resume at Dickson tomorrow night as scheduled. Tonight we are a little soupy. Dummy me didn't think we were going to get 1000" of rain this past weekend and didn't put the tarp on??????? Oh well, live and learn. Tried to gamble with Tennessee weather and lost BIG TIME!
  16. Wow!!!! What a night of emotions. Thank you Rossview for playing a huge role in such a memorable event for us. You guys more than anyone were able to see Kayla when she was in her prime and know what a tremendous asset she was to our team not only as a player but a wonderful person. It was meant to be a night about Kayla (although she wouldn't want it to be) and its my bet, she holding her head pretty high right now.
  17. Dickson County went 4-2 losing 3-0 to Springville, Al. in pool play (Springville has one heck of a pitcher) and lost in the first elimination game 3-2 to Opelika, Al.
  18. Incredible! This gives a whole new definition to a "meaningful out". On behalf of the coaches and players of Dickson County High School, we wish the Ravenwood Softball family the best of luck this season. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. The passing of Elizabeth was such a tragedy and sent shockwaves throughout the Softball Community. It really just puts it all into prospective. Players, you should strive daily to be the best teammate you can be and every day be better than the day before. Cherish and nurture your relationships with each other because you never know what tomorrow will bring. The ability to play the game is but a very small privilege that God has granted. The real privilege is the bond you have with each other
  19. Thank you! I am passing the article on to the players today. Perfect material for Senior Day!
  20. Coach Tyree, I'm getting the impression that certain people on here think that this is your "First HS Rodeo". How quickly they forget that you unofficially helped with Brentwood's program for what, maybe 4 years? Well anyway, welcome to official world of HS Softball and oh, by the way, don't expect to be given a chance. There are no trials here, you just go straight to execution. I for one know your work ethic and know your ability to get the most of those that play for you. Many parents including me can thank you for the opportunity you have given their children to compete at very high levels an go on to play in College. I have no doubts that in the near future you will bring the Softball program at Page to heights they have not experienced before. Bert Newberry
  21. We took the DC Lady Cougar J.V. Squad to Jackson, Tn. this past weekend to play in their 1st Annual J.V. Tournament. The Sportsplex is a brand new complex and has every Softball amenity you could possibly want. They even have flat screen T.V.'s along the exterior walls of the concession stand for the time you need to occupy between games. You couldn't tell that it had rained buckets the day before because the fields were immaculate. Great opportunity to get the younger players some PT. When it comes around next year, I would highly recommend it.
  22. Mr. NoitAll again with this post, you are trying to stir up (stuff) similar to what you did LC. Stick to predictions. I enjoy your efforts in that area as I am sure others do. You are asking questions that have obvious answers. If you have never experienced the loss of a Pitcher, especially one as dynamic as Cat, then you have no right to ask "what is going on..." because you would know! Remember, it is a marathon not a sprint. No doubt, Riverdale will be a force to be reckoned with at tourney time. They have the coaches and players that can make this happen. They just need a little more time to figure it out.
  23. For the most part I try and stay out of the corn flakes of these posts and use them strictly for reading enjoyment. More times than not I find the information is very resourceful. This post however, has hit pretty close to home and I just have to comment. Having coached in both the High School (HS) and Travel Ball (TB) arenas I am having a difficult time with a mentality that seems to be placing HS and TB on opposing sides? In theory, they should support each other although TSSAA regulations are making that proposition increasingly more difficult. Unless things have changed since I was involved in TB we only would have a couple of quality practices a week in preparation for the weekend tourney. Occasionally as we got closer to State/Nationals we would add a day of practice. In HS we are either playing or practicing everyday (sometimes Sunday's) trying to limit practice time to under 2.5 hours in order to allow for homework and test preparation. In TB we would try-out or handpick 12 fundamentally sound players from all over the mid-state. In HS we expand a team from year to year to 18-20 players picking up a new crop of freshman from a defined geographic territory that have to ride the learning curve for sometimes as much as 3 years depending on their ability. It is much easier to conduct a quality practice with 12 sound ball players than it is with 20 players of varying skill levels. I am now into my 6th year of coaching HS Softball which is a short amount of time compared to most of the great coaches (of which there are many) in the mid-state area. When I first started we were lucky to have 1 or 2 travel ball players where now the majority of our team dedicates their Summer to travel softball. I am glad to see ex college players like Natalie Brock (UT) and Erin Haggard (BSU) begin to stack Summer teams and compete at high levels. This is of great benefit to HS coaches but I do not believe that TB parents think we see it that way. You see, most TB players are not accustomed to having to compete for a position. They are usually selected by their TB team to play a position and receive very little if any competition at all in the field or at the plate. For better or for worse they play that position all Summer long. When they get to the HS team because they have played 'that" position all Summer there are expectations that nothing changes. I think that I speak for most HS coaches in saying that if its working, we'll continually tweak it to make it better but if on the other hand it ain't working we'll try and fix it. If we can't fix it we'll add competition. This is when the entire system turns upside down. The pressure of competition is why HS coaches get bashed. Some players are able to hang in and rebound while others selfishly turn in their uniforms. Naturally, the parents blame it on the HS Coaches because most cannot see the other side. A very high profile College Coach told our group one year at a MTSCA meeting that the biggest problem with HS Coaches is that we do not prepare our players to play in College. That is why it is rare for a player to complete 4 years of playing Softball in College. They are just not mentally "tuff enough" and cannot endure competition. Mr. Noitall you are a refreshing addition to this site. Although I don't agree with everything you say, for the most part you are right on. Lay off our buddy in LC though. He might send a posse after you.
