  1. Actually, it is hard to still predict the first round because of the following situation on how things may end up on seedings. 1) Lewis County 2) Camden 3) Goodpasture/CPA Winner 4) Hickman County 5) Stewart County 6) CPA/Goodpasture loser 7) Fairview 8) Waverly That would require CPA and Goodpasture to play first round like last year which is not going to happen with the new rules. If the TSSAA switch #6 and # 7, Camden will play CPA or Goodpasture. They could also switch 5 and 6 in which case Hickman will play CPA or Goodpasture. Hard to know what they are going to do.
  2. You are correct because he is assuming DCA will be in this quadrant which will likely not be the case. They will move east like they did last year. Stewart County should be in this mix.
  3. They amended the rules this year so two teams from the same quadrant don't play each other in Round 1. Therefore CPA and Goodpasture will not meet in Round 1. Also DCA will most likely go east again.
  4. Yes after missing the first 5-6 games of the season, these three starters are back.
  5. How about "Shalom, Hallelujah, Alla Be Praised, Have a Nice Day! Amen" /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  6. Really hard to say at this point until it all plays out. If Regions 1 and 2 only have one wild card, then the easternmost team from Region 3 will go east. If Regions 1 and 2 have two wild cards, then that subsection will be full and Regions 3 and 4 will have to be ranked and play each other. If just one wild card team comes from the western side of the state then that side is full and you may well have the situation of two Region 3 teams playing each other week 1 of the playoffs. A lot of options and it will not be much clearer until Nov 1st
  7. They did not have the ruling last year that teams from the same region would not play each other in the first round. It can still happen today but it would require 5 teams to make the playoffs from a single region. They modified the rules this year to try and avoid the situation of two teams from the same region playing in Round 1.
  8. From the scenario you paint above, my understanding of the structure would have two teams from Region I playing each other. Remember, the only way this can happen is if 5 teams qualify from one region. Only three get an automatic spot. There are 9 regions so that leaves 5 wild cards from across the 9 regions. I can't remember if last year 5 made it from one single region .
  9. I think the quadrants are set up purely geographically once the pool of all playoff teams is finalized. If alternatives are not in the bylaws now, they will not change them come Nov 1st. They state that if five teams do qualify from one region, then they two of them may end up playing each other. The only exception would be if say Regions 1 and 2 had 9 teams. In that case the westernmost team would shift over to the next quadrant.
  10. They added the ruling this last year so it does not happen again.
  11. I love High School Sports also and currently teach in a school where the fall break is just two days so we are not greatly affected. However, I have a hunch that the research you cite is somewhat valid. Besides Physics I sometimes teach Math also, and every year I am a little distressed at how much time is spent in the first 9 week grading period is spent on review of last years material. Most of the teachers who I know who teach at year round schools love it. I have also been in their classrooms and chatted with the kids and they like it as well. All of the teachers I spoke to stated that the review time was greatly reduced which in turn results in more time getting through the curriculum for that year.
  12. Just one wild card from the west keeps all of Region 4 on the east. Regions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 automatically provide 15 (top three from each regardless of record). There are 5 wild card spots total, therefore if any team from Regions 5,6,7,8 or 9 qualify, they fill out the bracket. The probability of not getting at least one wild card from 5 out of the 9 regions is slim to none. If there are 2 wildcards from the west DCA will move east (or Ezell if they beat DCA) If there are 3, Goodpasture will move east
  13. Your scenario includes all the current 3-4 teams in the east for wildcards but ignores the 3-4 teams in the west. Harpeth, Adamsville and Jackson Christian all fall in this category. As last year Region 5 will be the most likely pivot point.
  14. I would be very surprised if you see DCA in any of the semis this year. They will probably make the playoffs and very possibly will end up in the east section again but they are definitely not as strong as last year. It is also possible Goodpasture could end up in the east as well depending upon how the last few weeks turn out and which wildcard teams make it.
  15. You could be right, the TSSAA are so much smarter than you and I. I always felt I had a better than average IQ, but the new Z Plan has convinced me I must be a moron as I can honestly say I am not sure how it will all play out. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> I am a CPA fan and also a teacher there. All of our natural football rivals with the exception of Goodpasture have moved to DII. It will feel real strange for a year or two, although I am sure new rivalries will emerge. I also expect we will continue to see DCA and FRA as part of our schedule even though it wont mean as much as it once did.
  16. If they do it geographically, I think Stratford shifts over not Lipscomb.
  17. Very unlikely as there are 9 regions total in 2A, which puts 5-2A squarely in the middle. If all 5 wildcard teams were from Regions 1 through 4, that would push one team from Region 4 over to the west. Possible but I would not want to bet my 401K on it. (Actually after this week on Wall Street, maybe that would be a better option ) /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  18. CPA is staying DI DCA, FRA are moving
  19. Nashville Christian would be 2A in Football playing schools very similar to who they play now. I have no idea which way they might go but they would probably be better staying put in DI rather than having to compete against much larger privates like DCA, FRA, USJ etc.
  20. From my experience, most of the kids who work during the summer are typically not involved in athletics. As has been stated, they can often get a better hourly rate elsewhere. How the money is handled is also important. The student who works must be given a paycheck which is of course reported to IRS. I know that at our school we simply don't transfer hours worked to a reduction in tuition. A check is issued to the student and if he/she wishes to spend that on themselves that is their choice. I am sure in that case there may be some grief at home (LOL). It is the same situation as if they worked at McDonalds for the Summer. This is the way it should be since the student did the work and the payment has to be paid to him/her and counted as taxable income As most schools have a full maintenance staff, the number of jobs is not large for the summer.
  21. First, I was made aware today that we do have a very small budget set aside for need based financial aid which would be less than 1% of our annual tuition. I don't know if that is being used or not currently so I cannot give any further insight there. Remember also it is a K thru 12 school so the high school portion could be 1/3%. I am not sure why you think it is so unfair. A student is being given an opportunity to attend a school that they would not be able to afford otherwise. As long as they are made aware of the restrictions beforehand they have made the choice. Athletics is not top on everybody's list so they may not feel it to be a major issue. Also remember it does not lock them out of athletics completely, they are allowed to play JV and can certainly come out and practice everyday. If they turn out to be great athletes, they can transfer to a Public or try and get Financial Aid at another Private with no restrictions since they would never have played in any games. Let me ask you a question on fairness. Is it fair for the parents of a student to be paying full tuition and then see a percentage of that tuition payment be redirected to a fund to offer aid to another student who may end up stealing his place on the team? The reality of the situation is the fact that students who hold athletic promise or want to play sports will look elsewhere if they also want aid.
  22. Thanks. I did not pay much attention to 2A when the list came out and did not notice that FRA would be in that classification. Their football program has struggled over the last few years but under the guidance of David Pack (ex Ensworth, CPA and BA) I anticipate they will become much better in the next season or two. I don't know if they are making the jump to DII or not, but this would make it very tempting for them to stay.
  23. This will not be available for a few more weeks yet. The reclassification depends upon the latest enrollment figures and also on which Private Schools opt to move to DII. At that point the Districts will be set, however until that point the TSSAA do not know which schools will be moved either up or down a classification. If most Privates move to DII, then that would leave more slots in 3a, so I expect some schools at the higher end of 2a will find themselves moved up.
  24. I probably did not make it clear. Salama now have their own institute so athletic participation is not an issue as the students do not attend our school. Salama has been around a while and as far as I am aware Christ Presbyterian Church (and other churches in Nashville) have helped Salama establish themselves to the point where they are now. I am a teacher in the high school so I was not involved in any of the decision making process to stay in D1. The easiest route for sure would have been to move to DII Small Division. We are now going to be with Stratford, Lipscomb, Pearl Cohn etc all of which are considerably larger than we are so we are not going to be dominating anybody. Athletics was not the major driver in the decision, we are a part of the Greater Nashville Community and as such want to preserve that in all areas, including athletics. As for need based financial aid, I am honestly not aware of any students who fall in that category at the current time.
  25. As far as I am aware, there is little to no financial aid offered. I know in the past we have offered assistance to "Salama" which was for inner city students. The thrust of Salama was more for academics, leadership and the arts, so CPA was a good fit as our Fine Arts program is really excellent. Salama now have their own institute which is partly supported by Christ Presbyterian Church. We are a relatively new school and don't have a lot of endowments to even offer aid. We hope to keep tuition at a level that does not push it out of range for regular families. Of course if financial aid was offered, the student would be ineligible to play competitive sports.
