  1. They are already tightening up........................they need to worry about round 1!
  2. Greeneville made easy work of DB in the their pre-season scrimmage.
  3. They are good but I wouldn't go that far just yet. I do commend Graham for learning a scheme that fits the talent he has; however, playing so many players both ways will be tough against the Maryville and Riverdale's of Tenn 6a Football as I have seen all three this year. But congratulations are in order as I really like the offensive scheme.
  4. If you want to see it, YOU pay for it...It is that simple. Alcoa has not played GP in the regular season in almost 20 years...longer than that for Midway (30+) I could not find where they have EVER played Westmoreland...Just sayin. You show the scratch, I will make the calls. We played Midway in 1982 at Alcoa. Coach Dalton was furious at halftime.............
  5. You mean a draw play? Steve Spurrier's whole offense basically revolved around that concept when he was at Florida. He'd run the lead draw if the LBs and S were dropping off or he'd fake the lead draw and throw if they were coming up hard to stop it. Either way, the OL would just set up for pass protection to while the back would find the hole. Lots of teams block their draws like that. I don't see what's so shocking or unrealistic about this idea... You mean an option play, like a zone read? That's WHY you run options: to run the ball without having to block 1 or 2 guys! Again, this is not an earth shattering concept... http://smartfootball.com/run-game/orego ... e#more-745 http://smartfootball.com/defending-spre ... eer-option http://smartfootball.com/run-game/the-z ... on#more-85 http://sky.prohosting.com/cbbrown/2005/ ... -read.html The offense was "practical." Smith proved that at Franklin, and he proved it when coaches from all around this part of the U.S. were hitting him up for information on the cool new ideas he was SUCCESSFULLY running there. Whatever Smith's downfall was at SH, it was not Xs and Os. Now, the execution of it was bad, though. For whatever reason, their kids just were not prepared to play football. I think the results would've been the same in any system with fundamentals as bad as what SH has shown over the past few years. If your players don't know where to go, what to do, or even how to do it, then your team is going to struggle. That's usually the result of bad position coaching, but the head coach is ultimately the one who should be held accountable for everything, good or bad. This is true, and I'll stop here. I don't know Smith personally. I wasn't at practices. I didn't watch every SH game. I don't know every detail of what was going on behind closed doors. All I'm saying is that people are looking at Smith like the guy was a clueless moron who had no clue what he was doing. That's just not right. You don't win championships or get invited to speak at coaching clnics across the southeast by being an idiot. I can't vouch for his personality or what really went down at SH, but a lot of stuff here makes me think he might have been the victim of broken promises and backstabbing assistants as well as his own hubris. I'm sure that SH promised him the world when they brought him in, but it sounds like, for whatever reason, he wasn't given the authority or resources to rebuild the program the way he wanted it once he got there. That happens to HS coaches all the time. I know plenty of coaches in other states who've lived through that firsthand, and it has nothing to do with talent, players, or the abilities of the head coach. But either way, what's done is done. I wish Smith well wherever he goes just as I wish the future coach of SH, whoever he is, a lot of success. ............anyway, we do wish you the best of luck coach
  6. No need to worry. The staff has already hit the road _____________g! You know Alcoa is an open zone school
  7. Unbelievable that you would come on here and dog your on teams player after a championship game win. To tell you the truth I know of at least 1 quarterback that he was better than. Also like one poster said earlier the play calling was really bad. Throw some screens and try to hit T-Rod down the middle of the field instead of the out pattern. These things would have helped our quarterback out a lot. Also your in dream land if you think a freshman would even be looked at before our back-up quarterback Hogan Goodson. WAKE UP!!! Honestly, I find it difficult to be critical of anything these players have done over the past 4 years under the leadership of the best coaching Alcoa High School has EVER seen. Our team plays with class and all of the side bar trash has stopped. As far as Austin goes, the comment is childish at best. The crack is made against a 16 year old kid who more than likely reads this board. This is not Volquest and I hope this kind of trash will stop. The kid just led us to a 15 and 0 season that includes a victory over Maryville who will be the 6a state champion in 3 hours.
  8. I would say yes, at least this year. Our 06' & 07' recruiting classes have really panned out. Maryville may get more 5 star types but our 3 star recruits have developed into big time players. Thanks for recognizing our "Machine." We may open up more of East Tenn after this year 89 I hear one of starsandbars daughters is or was dating an alcoa boy maybe he can help you guys get a nice garbage service/recruiting business and expand some. everyone hates a winner!! alcoa by 3-4 touchdowns lets go f5 and bring 2 more gold balls back to the home of high school football in Tennessee. Yeah, I know a thing or two about dating Maryville girls I wish I lived close enough to Blount County to help with recruiting.................I'm sure the TSSAA would ban me

  10. Good luck tonight Ron. I wish I could be there. Having lived in M'boro for years, I had to listen about how good Middle Tennessee Football was/is. Funny though, I have been gone 14 years and some of these kids were 1 to 3 years old as I know quite a few parents. Hope Phillip is ok and good to go tonight cause you are going to need him.
  11. I really didn't want to pile on but since you said it I will also say I was very surprised at last night's crowd in Elizabethton. There were plenty of seats to find on the home side. The visitor's side wasn't half full IMHO. Plenty of room to walk around the track as well. The loudest group were the folks who have a party at the house on the other side of the fence in the corner of the endzone on the visitor's side. Now those folks know how to do it. Overall, I really thought there would be a bigger crowd.
  12. Rankin did not say that I agree he did not say that. Can't get here fast enough!
  13. Obviously you were not at that game. All Betsy players started the game and were injured during the game. The only difference maker would have been the W/R who is also the kicker. They had a 44 yrd field goal at the end of the game for the win. However, to expect a HS player to routinely make 44 yrd feild goals with 10 seconds on the clock for the win is unrealistic. The back up QB actually gave CAK more trouble than the starter due to his ability to accurately throw. Everyone knew CAK's weakness on defense was the pass defense. Wth the exception of #23, they were exposed. To say that Betsy QB ks the most athletic, #2 @ CAK was very athletic and an excellent runner. Bottom line, Betsy had a chance to show how good they were #6 rank vs #5 rank at home and couldn't get it done ! I do believe Betsy is as good as CAK and Loudon, but to dismiss Betsy's loss as a fluke due to injuries is disrespectfull. I would invite Betsy to join the district with CAK,Loudon, and Alcoa and see how well they do. It takes its toll on you year after year knowing you may win a state championship if you could just get out of your district. Alcoa has made both teams get better but they are not at Alcoa's level yet nor is Betsy. No one on Betsy team is like Toney, or Robinson. May be best 2 3a players in the state. Keep talking trash and disrespecting the toughest district in 3a, and come live in their shoes for a season. "Trash talking?" What are you talking about? I'm an Alcoa Homer. Why would I disrespect District 3A. I was at the game last night and I believe Elizabethton is clicking and presents a tough matchup for Alcoa. This is about Elizabethton and Alcoa....not CAK. You had your shot.
  14. Congrats to Avery. UT is missing out IMHO. Who would have "thunk it" last year that he and Tyler Robinson would be playing together. They are getting two good ones.
  15. I will get this started by saying how impressed I was tonight with the Cyclones. Since I live so close to Cyclone Stadium I couldn't miss the opportunity to see who my Tornadoes would face. Let me say this very LOUDLY-----Alcoa had better bring their A game. Elizabethton has a diverse and well balanced offense. They spread the field and have a QB who is more athletic than any one signal caller they have faced this year. Their WR's take take deep, almost sideline splits and they will wear you out with the slant route. Alcoa should forget the fact that CAK beat the Cyclones. I was much more impressed with Elizabethton than CAK not to disrespect CAK. Remember Elizabethton had their 3 best players, including the QB, hurt in that game. Elizabethton reminds me of a "poor man's" Maryville and I do mean that respectfully. They are well coached. Sean Witten reminds me of George Quarles with his play calling. I hope like heck the Alcoa kids do not look over on the other side during warm ups and see that Elizabethton only has about 40 players because that was my first impression at the start of the game. But let me tell you......about half of those players are Seniors and their lineman and linebackers/runningbacks do not go both ways so they are very fresh. Their passing game is going to give Alcoa fits and their QB is very, very athletic. Finally they play 2 runningbacks. Number 25 can absolutely fly and is probably the fastest kid I have seen this year. Number 33 is bigger and is more of a between the tackles kind of runner with quick feet. Alcoa will be able to run the ball though. AE would have been a much better match up for Alcoa IMHO plus it is just different playing up here. It will be about 10 degrees colder than what the Alcoa kids are used to. Just a different environment. I'm excited about the match up as I wont have to drive far to see my Tornadoes
  16. I think you are way wrong. Asheville High School, who Elizabethton played early in the year, has just as much speed as AE. This is going to be a tough trip for the AE kids as expect them to be a bit psyched out when they step on the field. Most of their kids have never been north of Broadway in Knoxville. Plus, they do not have as much discipline as Elizabethton. Elizabethton's Tailback and Quarterback have as much speed as anyone on AE's team. They barely lost to CAK and I feel certain CAK would handle AE. AE lost to Brainerd who lost to Tyner who was manhandled by Alcoa......just saying.
  17. I know you were being sarcastic but I will respond anyway. Elizabethton is a beautiful place with great people. Alcoa travels well and I wouldn't mind to visit E-Town again. Elizabethton is a wonderful place. As I said earlier in this thread, I hope they win since their stadium is 20 minutes from my driveway. Downtown is kind of a throwback to the days before urban sprawl. Couple of my favorite eating places are downtown. I am going to the game Friday to see what AE has as I know what the Cyclones have. Sean Witten has done a good job this year. The kids believe and they are benefiting from a terrible year in Upper East Tenn High School Football. Some of the 3a and 4a teams are just terrible. I am pulling for the Cyclones all the way as I have seen some memorable games on their field going back to the mid to late 90's. I will provide a free scouting summary Friday night
  18. I hope Elizabethton beats AE because their stadium is 20 minutes from my driveway. Oh, I am going to do some ADVANCED scouting next week as well
  19. You guys can help yourself to my entire library if you want....All of my "pics" from the past few years are in my photobucket album. http://s466.photobucket.com/albums/rr21/alcoaspaintedbridge/ I will get the F5 Club icon on there asap. I have a "little bird" telling me we will be in Black Jerseys tonight. Since I can't be there I expect you to reproduce them on this board.
  20. Heh....I played for Cookie....back in the late 70's He, in true Alcoa fashion, recruited too. I was one of those 37%'ers. So you were a Cub? I guess we played together.
  21. I agree that this conversation is irrelevant although it does make for great discussion and debate. I'm going to check out Ensworth by years end. I've heard all about the RB Orleans Darkwa from Ensworth. I check out the DII boards every now and then on here and read some. I've seen Brunetti once and Cobb twice. I just think that Brunetti was the better of the two. I watch Cobb every chance I get on TV. It's great seeing the TN guys doing big things at SEC schools like Cobb. Speaking of a budget at MUS....their stadium is absolutely AWESOME!!!!!!! Their home side is above and beyond a high school stadium. The press box is all glass and has lights to light up around it. It's beautiful! Also, that mutual friend hasn't been back to West TN since he moved to East TN, lol. I did talk to him about a month ago, but under bad circumstances on our families part. You can ask him or his wife about that last sentence. It was sad sad stuff! Yes I'm aware and your family has been in our constant thoughts. I am so, so sorry. You need to come and visit someday and see Science Hill play basketball. They have been very good over the years but you are probably too young to remember their great teams from the 90's. They could actually beat the Memphis teams. In regards to MUS and Ensworth........Bowers is worth 2 touchdowns against the MUS staff.
  22. The arguement does not matter, but, since we are on the subject I will weigh in. I saw Ensworth earlier this year against Oakland and if I were in the "pit" in Vegas, I would put my money on Ensworth. To be honest GCPioneer, Ensworth's runningback is better than Toney or the two who play at MUS. The interior line for Ensworth is huge and most of all they have Ricky Bowers as a coach. I did see MUS on Sports South and I did not see a huge difference between MUS or Ensworth. I see through Maroon Tinted Glasses but Alcoa does not have the sheer numbers/quality as these two schools but that is to be expected. However, I TOTALLY disagree with your assessment of Barry B. being better than Randall Cobb. If he is anywhere as productive as Randall in college I will send you a gift certificate to your favorite rest. in Jackson via our mutual friend in Johnson City My wife's cousins attend MUS and they should have the best. The recruiting budget at that school would make Lane Kiffin proud!
  23. Terrible loss. Absolutely pathetic. It makes me sick for the kids. I honestly don't know what the philosophy is on the Hill. What......four turnovers in the 1st half. Really, really a bad loss.
  24. Careless reporting by the news service. I am sorry I posted this as I read it on the news link. Terrible for the Smith Family and the Grace Christian Middle School Team.
