  1. oknative, I agree with everything you said. This game was a regional final, and I can say without a doubt or bias, that this red card should not have been given. Who knows what the outcome would have been with both teams having a full roster on the pitch, but the outcome without any doubt was influenced by the red card and Blackman having to play a mand down for 80 minutes was not just! This was not abusive or insulting, this person saying what he said, was talking to his teenage friend and teammate, not the opponent, not the referee, not the sideline, his own teammate and friend. Yes, I know a person can be abusive or vulgar to his own teammate! This was not the case. No matter what people say about that particular rule, it were not enforced this season, like it was in this game.
  2. To say Cleveland is a young team is a little bit of an understatement, they have several juniors on the team, all returning from a sectional loss to Blackman last year. I believe they only loss one person from last year. They look really good and execute away from the ball very well and the midfield distributes to the outside midfielders and forwards who are moving without the ball. They reminded me of the Brentwood team in 2005. I haven't seen Brentwood play, but they have a very good defender, goal keeper and forward. I think Cleveland wins this game, but barely. It's really a toss up and I am only predicting based on seeing them play this past Satruday. They are a very good team, who has flown under the radar here on CoachT.
  3. Not sure it would be an upset if Cleveland wins. They are very good team and they move very well without the ball. Midfield is very strong distributing the ball to the outside mids and they (outside mids and forwards) move without the ball extrememly well. They are a very good team. I haven't seen Brentwood play this year, so it's very hard to make a prediction. I think Cleveland may win this game. You can tell they didn't loose anyone from last year.
  4. actually there is a rue that says any incidental use of vulgar or profane lanuguage shall be cautioned (yellow card). Section 8 Art. 1. As a NFHS Referee and USSF Referee, and have refereed high schools games this year, most of the time boys are given a verbal warning then a yellow card for words such as "a double s", sh_t, da_n etc... There was no need to give a straight red to this player for "a double ss" and TSSAA needs to clarify which words are considered vulgar or profance language, this way there is no "in the opinion of the referee" judgement.
  5. No, we did not play down against Cleveland. We were just without Justin who is a big part of the offense and then we were with out Matt. Matt got hurt 5 minutes into the second half of the game.
  6. We lost 2-0 today, and I believe it made a difference in todays game, however, Cleveland is a very good team. Things happen and referees make mistakes, that card was pretty bad mistake, and people just have to step up. We have appealed to TSSAA, but according to the DNJ, Ronnie Carter said they are not going to be Monday morning referees, so it sounds to me like he isn't even going to listen to the appeal. If that is his stance, then referees need to be giving red cards for the sh word, dam word etc....Also this rule should apply to basketball players who foul out of a game, they should be suspended two games. Lets be equitable in all sports.
  7. I was very aware of the second yellow, which is a soft red and were allow to substitute, so they did not play a man down and Patrick played tonight as well. Thanks for the compliment about #11, he is my son.
  8. Only one team, Blackman played 80 minutes iwth a man down, that includes overtime. Our player got a straight red for telling his own player to get his "a double s" back here. Yes got a red card for saying a "double s". Which I believe Jesus Christ road an an a double ss into Jeruselum.
  9. You can actually go to the Gatorade Player of the Year and nominate a person. It's not just for soccer either, it 's for other sports as well. Mostly though, as BigG pointed out, coaches are contacted about players and infor is given. Not sure who votes though.
  10. Did you see the post? If you didn't, then you can't say that. If you want to email me, I can tell you what he said, it's not even worth mentioning on here. ronkatreed@comcast.net
  11. Tell him Ron Burgundy said to s_ck it up and get out there and play.
  12. Aren't schools placed in Divisions by TSSAA by size of school. I think that's how it works. A school can't just request to move up, high schools are not universities. Most high schools go through some highs and lows. For the past few years it's been Farragut and Beardon, CAK and Catholic, etc....Eventually, there are rebuilding years. Just the way it is. To throw recruiting in the mix is a cheap shot. Just because one private school did it in Nashville and got caught, doesn't mean all private schools do it. I'll pick CAK. Is Brandon back playing?
  13. Wonder where that post went. Guess, he agreed with us after making an idiot out of himself.
  14. I am absolutely sure. Sandy Pollock, TNFC 90's former coach, want to just meet once a week late in May to get ready for state when it used to be in June to have practice, so I inquired with Bernard Childress adn TSSAA, and he said they could practice as long as there were no drills over 5v5. I believe it's so you don't have an inner squad scrimmage if you have 20 or more players on your team, but that is what he told me. I tried to find the email, but it's been so long. Matt is having a great year. Playing sweeper last year recieved MVP District defender. Coach Vice in the middle of the season moved him ot midfield and he won district MVP Midfielder. After losing 9 starting seniors last year, Blackman was thought to be having a rebiuilding year and the way we started with a record of 5-1-6, it was really looking that way. Since then 7-0-1. Something clicked at the Lebanon game, and the team started playing as a team. I would like to think it was because Coach Vice pushed Matt up into the midfield, but I am a little biased in my opinion. However, it's definitely been a team effort, from our forwards to the defense, I don't know everything just started clicking and the boys have become unselfish with thier play. Blackman now has won the regular season district title and the tournament district title. They are just playing really well right now and they couldn't have picked a better time to start playing well. Coach Vice as done an excellent job with these boys. Thanks for asking. Hopefully you will continue with your success!! Congrats by the way!!
  15. "they ARE allowed to practice with their club team if their high school coach allows." Coach G, you are correct with practicing with thier club team, but the club team can not have anything over 5v5 in practice or if the player does participate in anything over 5v5 is in violation of the independent game rule. I was investigating that when the question arose when could club start practcing again to get ready for state games etc.. That came straight from TSSAA.
  16. Blackman All Distrct Players. Congratulations on Coach Vice on winning Coach of the Year for District 7-AAA. Well deserved. Kyle Applebee - 1st team Matt Cavett - 1st team Shea Vice - 1st team Jannik Hanke - 1st team Cameron Hunnicutt - 1st team Steve Boynton- 2nd team Terry Nowell - 2nd team Justin Cronin - 2nd team Ryan Zeeck - 2nd team Nic Benson - 2nd team MVP Midfielder - Matt Reed
  17. I think they each lost 10 starting seniors. Great job by the coaches.
  18. It was a greaet soccer game to watch. These two teams have been rivals for a long time, but the nice thing about both of them is they have mutual respect for each other. It starts with the coaches, then the players and then the parents, as you can see from this post. Good clean soccer, sometimes physical but never dirty. Great stuff to watch. Blackman finally played to thier potential and played thier best game of the year. As RiverdaleSccrDad pointed out we need to be able to finish and put the ball in the back of the net. The second goal was from a throw in from Matt R to Matt C. James who was in Riverdale's goal makes it very difficult to score, I can't imagine a 6'4 body coming at me while shooting and that makes a difference, especially when he is as agile as he is. Between these two teams either one could beat the other on any given day, it just happened to be Blackman's day.
  19. As a rec coach I look on line for drills etc... However, I can't find anything that puts it all together, like an actual training session and tells you the goal of that training session. For instance, when I got my E License, you were taught to do drills etc. that emphasize one or two items, aspect of the game starting with a warm up and ending in a progression to game type activity. There needs to be a basics/fundmentals, then something that teaches tactics, to the very inexperience coach as the children get older. I would like to see training sessions that give the entire training session and is simple to follow
  20. First time picking the winners. I like it. Need to add a "Draw" as an option for soccer.
  21. Maybe in your district Referees only allow thier Assistant Referees to only call offsideds, but the Highland Rim Association, who generally do from Franklin County to Smyrna, to Cookeville (most of SE Middle TN) want thier assistant referees to make foul calls and are encourage to do so. In fact, in our last referee meeting, were told if a center referee tells you you can't make those calls then don't referee the game, because behind assistant, is referee. Most Highland Rim Assocation require three man system, so they set how many referees must be used, unless it's a JV game, then they will use two. But for most games they use a three man system. Some referee assocations just don't have enough referees to do a three man system.
  22. Two man crews $120 I think, Three man crews $160.
