  1. All students at Smyrna Elementary School will transition to distance learning through Sept. 1 after about 53 students and eight teachers were placed on precautionary quarantine, the school district announced Tuesday. In a message to parents, Rutherford County Schools Communication Director James Evans said the students and teachers are either showing potential COVID-19 symptoms or they are a close contact of someone who is showing symptoms. -------------------------------------------- I'm as much of an Uncle Rico as the rest of the posters here... but they need to postpone football. I'll miss football this fall, but understand if it is postponed. Let's all be the grown-ups in the room for once.
  2. In Rutherford County people are NOT complying with the mask mandate. A guy working at one of the two big box hardware stores on Sam Ridley Pkwy in Smyrna had a gun pulled on him the other day when he asked a customer to comply, so the store gave up trying to enforce. The nearby Kroger was not enforcing today. The cashiers at a well known discount grocery store in LaVergne were not wearing masks the other day and the manager said he "can't make them" even though he admitted it was a county-wide mandate. One of the cashiers at the Circle K at the intersection of Murf. Rd. & Stones River Rd. was maskless that day even though they have big signs on the door indicating masks were required. Target and Publix have done a good job enforcing. Most places have given up. Did somebody bring up testing? Testing is down 42% in Texas and 33% in Ohio. Positive rates meanwhile are up. Something strange is happening with GOP governor-led states lately. Pretty sure fox "news" won't be bringing that up.
  3. You need to stop breathing. You're a waste of oxygen.
  4. Obviously a number of right wing posters have had covid. 55% of coronavirus patients still have neurological problems three months later: study Mounting evidence suggests COVID-19 could cause brain damage in adults and kids https://www.marketwatch.com/story/55-of-coronavirus-patients-still-have-neurological-problems-three-months-later-study-2020-08-07 Thoughts and prayers go out to them.

  6. From Johns Hopkins, a world respected medical center... Can COVID-19 damage the heart? Yes: Although COVID-19 — the disease caused by the coronavirus that’s led to the global pandemic — is primarily a respiratory or lung disease, the heart can also suffer. Cells in the lung and heart are both covered with protein molecules called angiotensin-converting enzyme 2, or ACE-2. The ACE-2 protein is the doorway that the new coronavirus uses to enter cells and multiply. ACE-2 normally plays a favorable role in protecting tissue by being anti-inflammatory. But if the new coronavirus somehow disables those molecules, these cells may be left unprotected when the immune system springs into action. “There are multiple mechanisms for heart damage in COVID-19, and not everyone is the same,” Michos says. Temporary or lasting damage to heart tissue can be due to several factors: Lack of oxygen. As the virus causes inflammation and fluid to fill up the air sacs in the lungs, less oxygen can reach the bloodstream. The heart has to work harder to pump blood through the body, which can be dangerous. Myocarditis: inflammation of the heart. The coronavirus may infect and damage the heart’s muscle tissue directly, as is possible with other viral infections, including some strains of the flu. The heart may also become damaged and inflamed indirectly by the body’s own immune system response. Stress cardiomyopathy. Viral infections can cause cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle disorder that affects the heart’s ability to pump blood effectively. When attacked by a virus, the body undergoes stress and releases a surge of chemicals called catecholamines that can stun the heart. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But-but-but... trump said it was a hoax... and you know he NEVER lies.
  7. You want to know what else is "fascinating" Permanent scarring the lungs from Covid. Heart damage from Covid. Blood clots from Covid. Non-reversible medical issues that will plague people through life. But, hey, rush them back into crowded hallways and classrooms and locker rooms. You won't mind paying their medical bills for the next 40 years, right. On the other hand, football could be played in the spring this one time. But that would make too much sense.
  8. Highly breathable nanocellulose material that can remove particles smaller than 100 nanometers, the size of viruses, has been developed and put into use. Is your google broken? Or just too lazy to look it up on your own? Or did limbaugh and the OAN channel forget to mention it between their conspiracy theory BS? How is "doctor" Phil doing with his 400,000 Americans drown in pools yearly crappola he spouted on fox "news" - ?
  9. Scientists have proven that CORRECT masks reduce a wearer’s contagiousness by at least 50%. Hanging a bandanna in front of your face or having any type of mask only half-a55ed covering your mouth and nose is no help. In an editorial published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), CDC reviewed the latest science and affirms that cloth face coverings are a critical tool in the fight against COVID-19 that could reduce the spread of the disease, particularly when used universally within communities. There is increasing evidence that cloth face coverings help prevent people who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others. “We are not defenseless against COVID-19,” said CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield. “Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus – particularly when used universally within a community setting. All Americans have a responsibility to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.” I'll have to go with the CDC Director over some Uncle Rico on a sports forum who is afraid of missing one fall of high school ball because he still has a complex over how he "woulda took state back in '82" or because he is mad that his racist "president" is about to be non-retained.
  10. If people had worn masks and stayed home and socially distanced whenever they left the house we would have college football this year. Some of us made those sacrifices. Others said the virus was fake news and ignored scientists. Those people are why we are still in this mess. Thanks a bunch, RWNJs. Enjoy your klandemic up in Sturgis.
  11. Swine flu caused nearly 12,500 deaths in the U.S. Covid-19 to this point has caused over 160,000 deaths. People need to get their scientific facts from science and not from right wing nutjob "news" where "doctor" Phil claimed 400,000 Americans die per year from drowning in swimming pools.
  12. Them there or-gone hippie lebrul gun-grabbing commie so-shul-ist wimp 'murica-hating Jesus-haters. They don't de-serve no dadgum football anyways. No way, no how. I betcha they don't even force the kids in pray in school or have rebel flags and stat-yous.
  13. Schools that wear purple & yellow that won't investigate $20,000 worth of damage to their facilities because it would be embarrassing to admit their own students did it.
  14. Nearly 100K Children in US Test Positive in 2 Weeks Since the coronavirus pandemic began, at least 338,982 children have been infected with COVID-19 in the US—and more than a quarter of those infections happened during a period of just two weeks. A new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association reveals that at least 97,000 US kids tested positive for the virus during the last two weeks of July. The actual numbers could be higher, because the report did not include complete data from Texas and New York. https://www.newser.com/story/294721/nearly-100k-children-in-us-test-positive-in-2-weeks.html?utm_source=part&utm_medium=uol&utm_campaign=rss_top ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But, by all means, let's rush them right back into crowded high school hallways so football won't be cancelled or postponed until spring. That way all of us "Uncle Rico" types won't miss one fall of living vicariously through another generation of 17-year-olds. And by the way, I woulda took state in '82.
  15. When Ash was running LaVergne Middle, the place was spotless. You could eat off the floor. During that same time, LaVergne High under the "leader" before him was filthy and falling apart. I can't think of any other time when a principal was so awful that he was actually fired DURING a school year. There were so many complaints on the condition of the school around that time to the point that the mayor of LaVergne actually joined the school board members in doing an inspection.
  16. LaVergne under the most recent principal: #200 in the state - not great but WAY better than under the previous guy... https://www.schooldigger.com/go/TN/schools/0369001987/school.aspx Smyrna... now actually ranked lower than LaVergne https://www.schooldigger.com/go/TN/schools/0369001988/school.aspx Stewarts Creek... head and shoulders above the other two: https://www.schooldigger.com/go/TN/schools/0369002318/school.aspx
  17. The "useless principal" was the one he replaced. The one who was fired after letting the school go to crap. Under the new guy, the school has pulled pretty much even with Smyrna High in academic rankings. Neither one is as good as Stewarts Creek though.
  18. https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/high-school/2020/05/18/tssaa-mt-juliet-football-violated-recruiting-rule/5213914002/ ...and have their fall scrimmages reduced in half as well as other penalties after the TSSAA ruled the Wilson County football program violated its recruiting rule.
  19. Ruot Monyyong and Jy'lan Washington from Whites Creek and Stewarts Creek never played against each other in high school (at least not that I recall) but were two of the top tall guys back then. They finally played tonight when TSU played Arkansas-Little Rock. It looks like a good night for Ruot and his current team although Washington had a nice run as 6th man at Louisiana Tech for a few years. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1CHMO_enUS484US484&ei=8nDwXfXgO4qesQXYy6XoBQ&q=tsu+little+rock&oq=tsu+little+rock&gs_l=psy-ab.3..33i299l3.4789.6768..7380...0.0..0.147.1416.6j7......0....1..gws-wiz.......33i160j0i67j0j0i10j0i22i30j0i8i13i30.7cLlHvU8xOc&ved=0ahUKEwj1od674azmAhUKT6wKHdhlCV0Q4dUDCAs&uact=5#sie=m;/g/11h59zjm45;3;/g/11ckvf54fz;tb1;fp;1;;
  20. Where is this game going to be played? Wasn't Ravenwood's field damaged from playing in a monsoon?
  21. After leading by 14, Stewie falls by 3. Now if they have to travel to play Ravenwood, there is the question of where will the game be played? People says Ravenwood's field was destroyed by playing last Friday in a monsoon instead of moving the game up to Thursday like many schools did. Didn't Ravenwood have to use Nolensville's field tonight to play against Indy? Won't Nolensville need their field this next Friday to host a playoff game as the #2 seed in whatever it is they play in?
  22. You guys have me convinced... my pick by a TD is...
  23. I wish I could be that optimistic but Smyrna took care of business vs LaVergne more than people thought they would. In a game with so much on the line and possible frigid weather, hard to say. Maybe Stew hangs on for the win, but I can see a much closer game than that.
  24. Are Siegel, Spring Hill, Station Camp and Father Ryan "unhealthy" schools. Unless one of them won last night, I think those four school are a combined 1-31 on the season. Again, the current administration at LHS inherited a school that was suffering from a severe lack of maintenance under the previous (cough-cough) "leadership." Ash is still trying to play catch up in that regard. He should be admired for having the balls to even take that job. Maybe you saw THIS in the newspaper this morning... https://www.dnj.com/story/news/2019/10/24/rutherford-county-schools-bathroom-doors-lavergne-high-track-oakland-riverdale-smyrna/4083692002/
  25. It's a school that has a football team. Not the other way around. I heard the school board scheduled a meeting for the previous principal to discus the condition of the school and the guy didn't even bother to show up. How many professions would he have been allowed to continue the status quo like that? What choice did the RCS have but to replace him? And it's not like many people were beating the door down to be principal at LHS. Plus, maybe if the TSSAA stopped letting private schools poach athletes from their zone, they might have a shot at keeping the next Jalen Ramsey that lives around the corner from the school.
