  1. I agree with you - this is a special game no matter who is strong, who is weak or whatever! Maybe Harriman is pretty young this year, but after seeing the Wartburg game last week, I must say they are still a very scrappy and physical bunch that will flat out hit you untill the final whistle!! I think their defense is a little suspect after seeing the way the dogs moved the ball on them, but in a big rivalry like this-who knows?
  2. No, I haven't been to school for ANYTHING recently, but I DID play sports for a lot of years and I feel that stretching, especially in football is very important. I only know that Wartburg has had a lot of injuries this fall, more than one would expect. I also heard that one of the coaches on the staff doesn't agree with this either, but I guess he's keeping quiet about it? I guess by the time he gets his Phd. in this stuff there won't be any players left to dress out! I normally don't sound off about much on here, but the no streching thing- I just don't get it.
  3. Smash, I think you hit the nail on the head about Wartburg. IF they could get everybody healthy, also, would help a lot. I don't know if this is true or not, but somebody told me that Wartburg's coach doesn't believe in stretching before practice/games. If it is true, NO WONDER they've had so many injuries and the coach is a bozo! I agree that next year could be much better in the Burg with a little more experience. But it seems like Oneida is hitting their stride and getting back in playoff form. But Smash, word to the wise old friend, be wary of Coalfield AND Sunbright-I saw them play Friday and they are both really good! You talking about a hard hitting game and a display of athletes!! Hey, again, I'll have to come up to the Mexican place sometime-IF you can get Flair to pick up the check!!
  4. Yeah, to think the guy has signed autographs all over the globe and there he is stylin' and profilyn at the local haunts! I know it is quite a task to beat Oneida at home and the dogs are facing an uphill battle! I was fortunate to be on a Wartburg team that did in '84, but I felt like I'd been in a street fight afterwards! You know I didn't mention earlier that Wartburg hasn't had everyone healthy so far and I think that it's really hindered them. Last week their starting QB was out and they had to go with a sophomore, and they STILL have a starting O-lineman out (their center!), not to mention some valuable back up skill players. I would really like to see them at full at full speed. Honestly I don't know if they would beat Oneida, but it would probably be a decent game. But hey, I still look for a worthwhile contest, and by the way I'm gonna have to come up to that Mexican place to eat. I've heard a lot of good things about it! I can't get the wife to go to games much anymore, but since I have a bunch of distant relatives up there, maybe I caould make it a reunion or sorts! Smash, if you see Flair or Kaz, tell 'em to jump on here-it don't seem right without em!
  5. Smash my brother! Well, I saw the dogs play Friday and while they really hung tough the first quarter, Pigeon Forge's size, depth and GREAT running backs finally started to wear them down and then the flood gates opened. Wartburg is pretty young but they DO have good size and experience up front and I thought their defensive line played great Friday. The only problem was their punting was deplorable! When the dogs finally started getting their offense going it was too little too late. But watch #16 at running back;the kid is a warrior! He's a transfer from Coalfield and he runs like his life depends on it every play! It'll probably take more than one brave to take him down! When he went out in the 3rd quarter, he already had almost 100 yards rushing! Well, don't know if I'll make it to the game, but I hope it's a good one. BTW, I always ask about Flair on here, but where in THE WORLD is Kaz? Has he left the country? Has he gone into overseas business with Flair? What gives?
  6. I know this is a bit off topic, but does anyone know if the Morgan County News is going to have a county high school football preview this year? I looked for it this week, but it wasn't there. I've always enjoyed seeing it over the years and it gives me a lot of info about the county teams, so I hope to see it soon. KingB-what gives?
  7. From what I was led to believe in the paper after last season, Coach Shoemaker was pretty much giving up coaching because of health concerns. But I see that he's an assistant this year. Seems to me that if his health was his biggest reason for stepping down, he wouldn't be so quick to grab the whistle and hit the sidelines again. Maybe he knew that this year would be a far cry from last season and he didn't want to be in charge of a team that struggles after such a stellar effort in 2010. As far as letting quitters back on the squad, well I guess that would be the coach's call -good or bad.
  8. Thanks for the info, old school-it sounds like the dogs were in the game a lot more than one would be led to believe. As far as the "86", well, I plead the fifth on that one, but I did play somewhere close to that time!
  9. Well, I really don't know what to make of Wartburg so far. I have sounded off about all the MULTIPLE preseason injuries they've had, and to be truthful, I still don't know the details of their game last Friday. But I DO believe if they are 100% they can compete. I honestly think they have an offensive line that ia as big and experienced as any in their region. But I also think that they are so young and slow in the secondary that defense will be an issue all season. It also doesn't help that they have a very tough schedule this year, either. So, if the dogs can have EVERYONE healthy and ready to go and not have their sideline resemble a MASH unit, hey, who knows?
  10. So, what was the story of this game for Wartburg? Did they have all of their starters back? Did they move the ball at least decently? Was CG pretty good? So what was the deal?
  11. Well, I have to say after attending the Anderson County jamboree tonight, I'm totally baffled. Wartburg must have had 8-9 kids not dressed out for some odd reason, including what looked like all or most of their starting line not to mention a couple of key skill players. Tell me please, somebody- how ON EARTH do you have that many players hurt in the preseason? Sure injuries are a part of the game, but this is border line ridiculous!! I sincerely hope that these guys make it back before the first game or at least soon or it might be a long season in the Burg! I mean I don't understand why they were playing the likes of Clinton and Anderson County anyway; but with so many starters not dressed out they were so outmanned it wasn't even funny!! Somebody please elaborate on this situation-enquiring minds want to know!!
  12. Now Roy you have to remember not to mention energy drinks! Those things are bad for the hydration process! As far as the Little Debbies; well, middle aged dudes like me don't need em, but I'm sure they're good as a pregame snack!
  13. Yeah, this is a rough time of year for high school football, I remember when I played, coaches would say things like,"you all haven't worked hard enough to deserve any water!" A coach did that today and that would be instant lawsuit! It's kinda funny when you think about playoff time and how cold it can get at those games. I guess folks forget all these 95 degree days then! But the funniest thing to me at bitter cold games are how some coaches still wear shorts! But for non-hot weather people like me, those cold games aren't so bad! Anyway I hope all players take care in this heat and don't worry -it'll cool off before long!
  14. Thanks, Jet. I just wish it would cool off a little and feel like football weather, at least a little. I'm SO SICK of this hot weather!! BTW, I'm interested in getting a look at OS -I think they could be contenders this year.
  15. Hey Roane Countians-is there a Roane County Jamboree this year? If so, when and where? I assume there is and I've attended in years past; but I haven't heard anything, so I was just curious.
  16. Hey, if I'm ever that far south I'll keep that in mind. But the red bull? Nah, my doctor told me to lay off the caffeine.
  17. Look my back woods friend, I'm not saying that it's not a worhwhile publication. But he knows about every team because he calls coaches and they GIVE him the information. I always liked the section on players in college and such; but my point is he's a SELF PROCLAIMED "guru", a moniker he pinned on his own shirt. You think I'm joking but really my stand up career just failed.
  18. Thanks for the info me2. I hope the dogs keep their personel together because from the looks of their schedule; they're going to need all hands on deck! Coach Ellison seems to be a dynamic young coach who could accoplish great things in the Burg! Yeah, I think all players should put in the work for the experience of playing high school football. I know I'm sentimental about it all. I don't know how many out there watched the final episode of Friday Night Lights last week, but it reduced me to tears! There's not a more magical time on earth than Friday nights when the field lights are turned on and everything stops but football in towns all across the country!
  19. Tennesse? Now old polecat, are you sure about that? Granted the kid is a very good player and I'm sure he has a college career ahead of him; but if the vols are recruiting him this is the first I've heard about it. Again, he's good, but to compete with the likes of Tyler Bray and Justin Worley , he'd have to be exeptional! I sincerely hope the kid gets some D-1 looks, but I think the jury still out on that one.
  20. Well, in that case, I proclaim myself the guru of "hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet." Why? Well, because I SAY I am. You think I'm joking, but I am.
  21. I have to say that I don't buy the Murphy Fair book anymore. I have a hard time buying a publication by someone who gave themself the nickname "Guru" Since when did the football gods send down a bolt of lighting and make this guy "the all-knowing one?"
  22. So, has anyone heard anymore about this this situation? Did these kids really quit? I've been thinking about this situation and to be quite honest, I just don't get it. I don't see why anyone would want to quit right before their senior year. I guess I'm just an old has been that still longs for the 1980's, but it would have been a cold day in South Texas before I'd have quit right before my senior season. To be more honest, I couldn't stand Bill Winstead, but I still played my heart out for him on every play and I showed him the utmost respect. Again, I don't know all the why's and wherefore's here, but if those kids did quit, I hope they reconsider-football's much like life, it's way too short.
  23. I don't know if anyone cares to name drop here; but who were the kids that quit? Wartburg could ill afford to lose seniors with experience!!
  24. Smash old buddy! How goes it? Hey, you shouldn't give this nucklehead old tiger the time of day-he's just bored; you know, being unemployed and all. So, tell me, is Oneida lying in wait for those teams that beat them last year? I bet they are! I think Oneida will be a contenter this year-they're always a team that won't be down for long! Wartburg lost a TON off last year's squad and I have a feeling they'll be a little green this year. Boy, it's a long wait ain't it? Remember the SNL skit about "more cowbell?" Well, "I've got an itch that can only be scratched by high school football!" So, smash, talk to you later..... and in the mean time tell the indians that last year's loss to the dogs was nothing personal and that they should take their wrath out on Sunbright or Coalfield or OS or...............
