  1. I've seen Oakdale play a couple of times this year and they were a pretty good team. I think a lot of it has to do with the new coach they have down there. I think the last coach they had won about 2 games in five years or something like that! So with a good coach now, I look for tham to be improved in the future.
  2. I hope the dogs have a good off season. This non district schedule looks pretty tough! As a matter of fact, the whole darn thing doesn't look easy!
  3. Amen, Crow. I remember my buddies laughing at me for buckling up when I was a teenager. But it's a practice that I've always followed and always will and I think everyone should as well. My thoughts and prayers go out to these young men and their families. I know that God is welcoming one into the Kingdom of Heaven now. God Bless all.
  4. Congrats to the Wartburg players. These guys will be sorely missed!
  5. I tend to agree here. Isn't thet "GURU" tag one he gave himself?
  6. I agree whole heartedly with 98% of this post. The only thing I'd like to point out here is that the 03 team with "John T and the boys" was a bunch of prima donna would be super stars who blew a shot at the playoffs with their arrogant attitudes and self centered actions. I vividly recall the seniors that year coming off the field, slinging their helmets and talking back to the coach who was dumb enough to stand there and take it. Yes, you're right in that there were good teams with that bunch but when they became seniors they didn't play as a tem at all. I think this year's team should be commended for playing hard, listening to coaches, and from what I could tell playing class the majority of hte time. I wish those senior guys well and I'd to see a few of them play on Saturday!
  7. I agree t-dog. Wartburg ran into a buzz saw tonight in Boyd. They were athletic, fast and absolutely MASSIVE up front! But the dogs have NOTHING to be ashamed of- what a great and memorable year! Folks around the Burg will be talking about this season for years to come! So congratulations on a great year dogs and to the underclassmen- get in the weight room and work hard and keep this trend going. Also, to the Boyd folks- I concur with the rest of the Wartburg folks here and say that you all were a very classy bunch of folks and yes your defense is the best I've seen in awhile! Good luck and I hope you all end up in Cookeville!
  8. Now Gobey, that's not true! The fine folks of Boyd should check out all of our fine 5 star restaraunts and visit the local art museums and take a ride on our trolley system and ........oh wait we don't have all of that do we? No seriously, I think that the Wartburg players should soak all of this in. They are a part of Wartburg football history after all. Especially the seniors should really stop and smell the roses-I mean, they started out 3 years ago in a dismal situation and now they lead a team into the state quarterfinals. Who knows when this will happen again? I mean, I'd sure like to see it, but I guess one has to be realistic too. So to the Wartburg players: pull that jersey on with pride tommorow morning, walk down the hall with pride and cheer just a little louder than usual at the pep rally. When you take the field for warm ups tommorow night, stop and breathe in that chilly November air, hustle a little harder in warm ups and just pause to take a long look around at the fans in the bleachers and all the sights around you. Remember every word your coaches say in pre game, remember how you feel at that moment and recall the look in all your teammates eyes.Walk acroos that pavement onto the gravel past all the well wishers and take the field and don't EVER forget that moment. Because win or lose, you'll remember it for the rest of your lives. Good luck dogs represent the Burg with pride, class and dignity. Strap em on tight and see what happens.
  9. Thanks, Smash we appreciate it. I miss you Oneida boys. You know you could get Flair off the golf course in Maui and you all could come South this Friday and watch the dogs. What do you say?
  10. Ole "Jerry's" pulling your leg. The benches didn't clear.
  11. You do make some good points here 4thdown. I'll say it again-you can't a whole team or community by the actions of a couple of knuckleheads!
  12. So what was the situation in the first half anyway with a Wartburg coach? What happened?
  13. Uh yeah, what thordad said......no really this post is pretty accurate. #21 has been "on" lately he's been quite a threat from anywhere on the field. Also, #6 has REALLY IMPRESSED me at cornerback -he takes on backs MUCH bigger and flat out DRILLS them! Yes, Wartburg'd d-line and linebackers are big and physical. #59 has been such a fine addition to the Wartburg team this year- he's been a warrior and competitor from game one. I honestly think Wartburg is toughest against the run but they do have athletes in the secondary, as well. Also, having #18 back at linebacker has helped too. How many players does Boyd dress? What's their depth like?
  14. Gee, I thought this was a thread about B-B and Wartburg's game this Friday and folks are on here talking about everything under the sun besides the subject at hand-even got CY Jacket to come out of his 5 year hibernaton!! So, Boyd folks, what are the Bucs strengths, weaknesses? Someone had said that this game "might get ugly" but I just don't see it. I'm sure that Boyd has played some quality opponents this year, but I QUARANTEE they haven't seen a better linebacker than Hutchison and I think that Spence is probably as fast as anybody they've faced, also. I know that I saw Boyd play 8-9 years ago and they were very good. But I honestly believe that this is the best Wartburg team in 30 years, hand down. So who knows, Boyd may get the W friday, but I think thay'll have a real battle on their hands!
  15. I totally disagree here. I don't know about all the "sister" stuff and sure, I don't guess I know the "whole story" but there is NEVER an acceptable time for a parent to get involved like the guy did. Charges being pressed? PLEASE! If the coach kept the kid from hurting himself or hurting someone else, he did the right thing. "Smarting off" as you say, is an unfortunate thing, but it's been happening in high school football for years, I remember it well when I played. The bigger person ignores it and goes on. Again, I HATE what happened the other night, but I have a feeling if OS had had a huge lead,#30 wouldn't have been so "high spirited" and ready to fight.
  16. Good post. You seem a lot like Catback- a pure class act. Good luck to OS in the future.
  17. Good points you make here raygun. The more I think about it; it REALLY saddened me to see the OS players have to walk off the field single file like convicts escorted by state troopers when 98% of them had done NOTHING wrong! Sure I'm an old Wartburg alum and former player, but this still just really affected me. I sincerely hope that #30 and his father are dealt with in some way. I also want to congratulate OS on a good season and to advise them to keep their heads up and know that I, like most other folks on CoachT, know that this incident wasn't indictative of a team, coaching staff, or a community.
  18. Catback, old buddy, this was a fine post. I agree with every thing you say here. I HATED to see this happen last night, but I think #30 just let frustration get the best of him and that's sad. But you're absolutely right, this kid's father needs to be banned from OS sporting events-I don't see how we can expect kids to behave properly when their parents don't. I honestly felt sorry for the OS coaching staff having to handle a situation like this because they seem like a good bunch of guys from what I can tell. YOU're right about your kids having to deal with you- my father would have probably been on the field with his belt! Anyway it's comforting to know that OS has such a class act on CoachT.And like I told an OS fan last night- OS WILL be back next year and as tough as ever!
  19. I'm afraid to make a prediction in this one. I think both teams are playing good ball right now and it could go either way. I remember back in the 80's when I played for Wartburg, the OS game was ALWAYS the most physical game of the year. They would just line it up and try to pound us. So Wartburg had better contain Miller and Romero and move the ball themselves!
  20. Well, a lot of folks on here are predicting a blow out, but I just don't see it. Yes, Rockwood is a good team, but I think OS is, as well. They have a very good running back-QB combo that can really move the ball, not to mention a good O-line. I think it's anybody's ballgame.
  21. Yeah, "skin that smoke wagon and see what happens!" I concur, one of the all time best!
  22. Ole tiger, Ole tiger, where for art thou, Ole tiger?
  23. Shhhhhhh.........does anybody hear ole tiger? Didn't think so!! 41-21 take that you bozo!!!!!
