  1. Issue 2 will be out Sept. 21. Thanks for watching for us!
  2. Ok wow, I just have to post this info I just found on the Tennessee Waltz, Rocky Top debate. They are actually BOTH considered our state songs along with three others. WHO KNEW? TITLE 4. STATE GOVERNMENT CHAPTER 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS PART 3. STATE SYMBOLS SECTION 302. 4-1-302. State songs. The official songs of this state shall be as follows: (1) "My Homeland, Tennessee" by Nell Grayson Taylor and Roy Lamont Smith, as adopted by House Joint Resolution 36 in 1925; (2) "When It's Iris Time In Tennessee" by Willa Mae Waid, as adopted by Acts 1935, chapter 154; (3) "My Tennessee" by Francis Hannah Tranum, as adopted by Senate Joint Resolution 35 in 1955, as the official public school song in Tennessee; (4) "The Tennessee Waltz" by Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King, as adopted by Senate Joint Resolution 9 in 1965; and (5) "Rocky Top" by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant, as adopted by Acts 1982, chapter 545. [Acts 1935, ch. 154, §§ 1, 2; mod. C. Supp. 1950, §§ 107.1, 107.2; T.C.A. (orig. ed.), § 4-107; Acts 1982, ch. 545, § 1.]
  3. Thank you! I was hoping I didn't have to post the lyrics on here. Someone is either really sarcastic or needs to brush up on their TN history. Secondly to the person who said they didn't relate to Rocky Top...you're in the minority buddy. Ask someone from another state what our state song is, and most likely they'll say Rocky Top. Case in point- name the state song of Alabama. Sweet Home Alabama is the first thing you think of...but it's not their actual state song - Alabama.
  4. You are right, the Tennessee Waltz is THE state song, but I think what he meant was that Rocky Top was a state-WIDE song as we all relate to it, especially in sports. Thanks for trying though.
  5. Perhaps there is only 30 in your band. The high school I graduated from had 130 at one time. Those who say they hate the band...I'm sure it is because your schools band isn't very good. Those of you whose schools have good bands, I don't see why they wouldn't enjoy them.
  6. I think saying they hate each other is a little overboard. It's a good matchup, but both coaches are old tucker coached and they have a lot of respect for each other. They're also both great coaches. I've only heard them say good things about each other. However, in recent years the biggest in West TN is definately Huntingdon/Milan.
  7. Before friday night I would have said Huntingdon hands down. I think this will be a good game, but Huntingdon still takes it.
  8. Milan on this one! They will definately look to step it up from here on out. They'll work their tails off this week.
  9. Ok...I'll be the one to stick up for the band. They're very dedicated and are at every game just like the football players and cheerleaders. Their job is also to get the crowd going. As far as playing during plays...it is against the rules and any band who does it is the exception to the rest. And in case you didn't notice their are almost as many Band Parents at football games as their are player parents. Everyone shows support for their school...just in different ways. So what's the problem. If your band isn't very good however, I feel for you. But you should still be supportive. PS- More band students will get scholarships to play in the band than athletes will get to play football in college. We should support the school and its students as a whole...not just the players on the field. However, I agree with a lot of the other annoying factors listed. Just thought someone should take up for the bands.
  10. I never count a 7-2A team out!
  11. Well the rule is definately something that is hard to get used to. As a sideline photographer myself...I noticed it seemed like no one knew where they were supposed to stand. And everytime we thought we were safe (like you said) we'd have to move again.
  12. Despite the results, I think Dresden showed they're going to be a better team than some might have thought. Their 7-2A region will be a shootout as always, but this year looks to be especially interesting with Peabody and Westview's wins. Good luck to the OC next week with Crockett...I definately think the Cavs have a great chance at their region.
  13. Peabody one of the best in 2A?? No. Underestimated? Yes!
  14. You hit the nail on the head there. Those are exactly the type of mistakes I'm talking about. And there was only one completion by the dawgs the entire game. Why did they keep trying it??? Williams (#20 I think) is definately going to be a player to watch. He has some SERIOUS speed. He was definately a highlight in times when we really needed to come up with something. Wells did somewhat make up for his awkward passes by his series of QB sneeks. Those seemed to work pretty well. They'll get there, but they'd better do it soon.
  15. I have to say that I expected Crockett to win, but I didn't expect that kind of margin. You are totally right about the first quarter or so, but the dawgs made some big mistakes and seemed to really lose steam quickly. With that second TD I thought there might be some hope, but it was all Cavs after that. The Cavs are a great team, but I must admit I expected more from Milan. They have a few kinks to work out for sure. Don't worry Dawgs...I know you'll clean up your game!
  16. No, you're not the only one that noticed. It's probably the biggest upset tonight. Bolivar has had a tough time of it, but maybe this will set them in the right direction. A lot of surprises tonight though!
  17. WOW! What happend to Huntingdon? Did they just think they had it and not bring their A game or were they really outplayed?
  18. Haven't heard anyone comment on the West TN magazine and wondered what everyone thought. SHARE WITH US!
  19. Glad you all like it! I wish our readers in West TN were as excited as you guys. Don't forget...if you really like the magazine or if you have comments about it, feel free to send a Letter to the Editor.
  20. I have to say that Humboldt's new quarterback option looked pretty good in a practice w/D-Burg. They have a nice looking reciever too. Fast...and is able to make good adjustments when needed. Humboldt will certainly surprise a few but over all I say they'll still fall somewhere around 4th.
  21. The Middle TN edition should be hitting news stands as we speak. By the end of the day, you will be able to go to www.ontheballmag.com and choose West or Middle TN to get all the information you need. Thanks for watching for us!
  22. For the person who said they're new to the area: Pick up a copy of On the Ball Magazine. The Aug. issue is a complete football preview of all 44 teams in West TN
  23. Milan will certainly make the playoffs...the chances of Gibson Co. beating them is slim despite their upset of Westview last year. Huntingdon will certainly be their main opponent. They need to win every game, but that one will definitely be an important one. Winning against them in the regular season could give them the confidence to get past them in the postseason. Do I think they can do it? Yes and No. Huntingdon is equally as strong as they were last year, but I never underestimate the determination of any Milan team. They have a reputation for pulling off wins in important games. One thing is certain. That's the one game I'm going to make sure I don't miss this season!
