  2. Where is this weeks line-up? And the results from last week? Come on KWC you are already slacking brudder- This is your full time job, right? Just kidding, I appreciate everything that you have and continue to do. I am looking forward to your thoughts on this weeks match-up between the Cordova Wolves and Millington Trojans.
  3. Whitehaven does a GREAT job in finding spots for the kids to play after High School. I have been impressed with this all the way back to when Stan Collins was walking the sidelines. Millington has essentially been a .500 football team over the course of the last couple of years so, you would expect that the numbers getting a chance to play in college would be less than Whitehaven who have won an average of 10-11 games a year during that same period. I expect that you will see more opportunites for the Millington players over the course of the next few years as they look to be considerable improved and should win or compete for the district title this year an next at the very least. You referred to Roland Genesy in an earlier post. He was the "Big" back that played for Millington. He signed with UT Martin out of HS and red-shirted there. He has since transferred to Glendale Arizona Junior College where he had an impressive debut last week. He is now receiving interest from PAC-10 Schools like Arizona State. I suspect you will see him on the D-1 level for the next 2 years.
  4. Word on the street is that he is going to attempt to go the "Jarnel Stokes" route and enroll in college early. Look for that announcement to happen sooner than later. Possible destinations are Tennessee, Kentucky, and Memphis among others. Tennessee has become a real possibility in the last week or so as Donnie Knoxville has really made an impression on Skai in a short period of time. I would be surprised if he doesn't end up at Kentucky though. John Calipari has made Skai a priority the last couple of years.
  5. KWC- Looking forward to your analysis on this weeks games. When should we expect it?
  6. Collierville Millington Central CBHS Manassas Ridgeway Southaven West Memphis Oakland Craigmont ECS
  7. KWC- Wish you would have called into our show, we were on the air until 1130 last week as the redbirds pushed us to a late start. We are on from 600-630 before the action this week and again from 930-1100pm after the games conclude. Mark and I will be covering the Highway 51 rivalry as Brighton visits Millington. I'm interested to see how good Brighton is under first year coach Robin Jacobs. To answer your question about Cordova- They will always have some excuse for losing games they should win- to quote a famous former Memphis Tiger Basketball Coach " It is what It is". Pretenders are pretenders for a reason.
  8. You are getting a little full of yourself aren't you BartlettHSGrad04? It's only one week. The football season is a marathon and not a sprint. You have got a ways to go before you become the "Vinnie Verno" of the Coach T Message Boards..... By the way, Where are all of the cheerleaders for Cordova now? Just as I suspected- Dova is still a pretender rather than a contender. In fact, I see Bartlett finishing third in 14AAA ahead of Cordova but still behind Millington and Arlington.
  9. Congratulations on the Week Zero victory! That sets up a battle of 1-0 teams next week as Brighton visits Millington. Millington was lead offensively by Junior QB Eldon Tyms who ran for two touchdowns and and threw for another. Sophomore RB, Keno Taylor ran for over 150 yards and 1 Rd averaging nearly 10 yards per carry. Should be fun next Friday!
  10. What are you expecting our of the Cardinals this year under your new head coach? A know that you have a huge hole to fill on the defensive line with the graduation of Charles Moseley. In addition, last year it seemed that the Cardinals were void of the skill position players that they had in recent years. Has that void been filled with any young talent?
  11. Though I always pull for local teams when they play out of town teams, I think MBA will win this one and quite possible handily. Instead of stepping up and raising the football program to the elite level much like MUS has, CBHS decided that "good" was good enough. As such, they will be a good team moving forward but never elite. Unfortunately, It takes an elite team to compete with the likes of MUS, Brentwood Academy, and Einsworth for a state championship. As it stands, I don't see CBHS competing at that level.
  12. Not sure where all of the preseason love for Cordova is coming from. Yes, they are going to have athletes. I agree. They always do. But, in recent memory, they continue to be one of the most undisciplined teams in Shelby County. If the preseason is any indication, this hasn't changed and will end up costing them a game or two they shouldn't lose. One of those will be this friday night against Houston. Cordova is going to have prove to me that they are ready to contend in district 14-aaa because all they have done lately is Pretend. The 14-AAA champ will continue to be either Arlington or Millington until proven otherwise.
  13. Though they are our major rival, I am glad to hear to that Munford is improved. The Munford community deserves better. Always love to travel up Highway 51 and watch our Trojans battle the Cougars. It's more fun when it's somewhat competitive.
  14. KWC- You can't go wrong with any of those games! Not sure if you knew or not, But I co-host the Shelby Metro Sports Scoreboard Show and we hit the airways beginning this Friday night following the games on Sports 56/ 88.7 FM. Make sure to give us a call and let us know what you saw. Excited about another GREAT year of HS football. I will be at the Millington @ Germantown game myself prior to the show.
  15. KWC- I think that He was asking who won the Pick em' contest for regular season and playoffs last year...
  16. Game 1: Ridgeway @ Olive Branch (MS) Game 2: East @ Southwind Game 3: White Station @ South Panola Game 4: MBA @ CBHS Game 5: Houston @ Cordova Game 6: Jackson Trinity Christian at St. George's Game 7: Millington @ Germantown Game 8: Brentwood Aca. @ MUS Saturday August 23, 2014 Game 9: Mitchell @ Whitehaven My Picks: Game 1- OLIVE BRANCH Game 2- EAST Game 3- SOUTH PANOLA Game 4- MBA Game 5- HOUSTON Game 6- TCA Game 7- MILLINGTON Game 8- BRENTWOOD Game 9- WHITEHAVEN
  17. #44 is Patrick Macon. He has lead the Trojans in tackles as a sophomore, and junior, and looks poised to have a big senior season. He has D-1 size for sure at 6'3" 235 pounds. Eldon Tyms is entering his junior season already starting for two years. Yes, you heard that right. He started varsity as a 9th grader which should pay huge dividends the next two years. He is diminutive in size, but is very elusive and pretty accurate throwing the football. Depth is a definite concern this year and moving forward as the New Millington School system has really reduced the size of the school (300 or so less kids for this year and probably another 100 more gone next year). But, MCHS will adapt. Millington has a legitimate chance to win the district crown this year. Arlington which has been their major competition the last 5 years is rebuild mode this year. I look for both Bartlett and Cordova to be much improved but both still 1 year away from any consistency. The big question on offense for the Trojans is who is going to run the football. The air apparent at the RB position was to be sophomore Keno Taylor who rushed for over 150 yards in the playoff game vs Germantown as a freshman, But a couple of weeks prior to summer camp, He informed the staff that he was moving out of state. Big blow but also a big opportunity for someone else. Where is another Barnes? (As you may or may not know Millington has been blessed over the last 25 years to have a plethora of RB's from the Barnes family. Brothers Marvin, Melvin, Marlon, Marcus, and Miguel and have played at Millington over the last 25 years and went out to play collegiately as well. Marlon being the most successful, playing at the University of Colorado and then in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears.
  18. District 14-AAA has been a two horse race year in or out. Those two horses have traditionally been Arlington and Millington. I do not see that changing this year. Cordova has plenty of athletes but not a whole lot of football players. There is a difference. Millington has a share of both. Look for them to win District 14-aaa this year. Lots of returning starters including a QB that is returning for his 3rd year as the starter.
  19. Bolton High School is looking for a girls head coach. Team should compete for district 14aaa title for the next two years.
  20. Brighton Boys job was filled about a month back with Stan Gatlin taking the helm. He had a great run with the Millington girls program winning numerous district and region titles and making it to the state championship game.He has most recently been the HC of the Girls program at Southwind High in Memphis. He will do a GREAT job with the Brighton program. Bolton Boys job has been filled by former PG Harrold Scott. Harrold will do a nice job with a once proud program. Bolton is the only school in the state that was won a state title in A, AA & AAA. They have a legitimate chance to make noise at the state level the next two years with nationally heralded pg Jaylen Fisher. He is the best PG to come out of Memphis area since Penny Hardaway IMHO. Definitely worth price of admission every night. Bolton Girls job has recently opened up. Interesting because they have a real shot to win district 14aaa this year. Gonna be interested to see who gets the job there.
  21. Great hire for Westview! Very surprised he is leaving UTMartin and Kevin McMillian though. Any idea who will replace him at Martin?
  22. Bodenhamer is a very good coach. Can't believe that he ran into the problems that he did in one year at Stewarts creek. He walked away from a very talented team to take the Stewarts Creek job. I really believe that his former team would have made a deep run at state level under his leadership last year.
  23. Former Millington & Southwind Girls head coach Stan Gatlin was named head coach of the Boys Program at Brighton High. Great Hire! Coach Gatlin will win big at Brighton! Congrats Coach!
