  1. Pretty extravagant, eh Waco?? But, who the heck is Swafford?
  2. Hey PowerPlus. I've been busy. No I wasn't there. My Daughter was there though. So, what's up? I had a good conversation with a guy from Sullivan South at the tournament, and he was really knowledgeable about the football goings on with South and Science Hill. Said that Stacy Carter had given him a tour of the Science Hill campus. After the conversation was over, I knew your daughter played softball and got to thinking that maybe that person was you, but apparently not.
  3. compusatman . . . Did you attend the Eastman softball tournament last weekend?
  4. As well, they promised my son the sun, moon and stars...but would not commit to money until we provided the FAFSA. Every other school put the numbers on paper...without FAFSA. Except West Texas A&M. They wouldn't talk money until we physically visited the school. Because it was so far away (Amarillo) and because the Charleston offer was lucrative we opted to decline. The preferred walk on offers were LSU and Troy. Wasn't the recruiting fun at the time? It was an a exciting time for us when coaches from Marshall, MTSU, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Va, Tech, VMI and others were calling. Just so everyone knows, many calls and 2 shoe boxes full of letters, but very few scholarship offers. But, it was fun! There is a far cry from high school to college. I'm hoping Comp, for another shot at the recruiting game this summer and next year. This time in softball. I'll be a little wiser and know more what to expect. "Hopefully"
  5. Tusculum recruited my son and told one lie after another. And I can't stand to hear a coach from a program put down another school and or program. Tusculum does it regularly (or at least with us). It was our experience that all coaches that called every week wanted to know who else was calling, which was kinda funny. But, that was cool.
  6. Thanks Comp for the kind words. I also enjoyed watching your son play. I referred to him as an escape artist due to his ability to shed tacklers time and time again with his spin moves. My son is doing fine and is content with going to school and playing rugby for JC.
  7. My son had an official visit there. It's in the middle of nowhere. They have a gas station and a Hardees and that is about it. You have to love the game and want to play because you love the game...because sometimes there is not much else in the package. PowerPlus, is Aaron Trent your boy? I understand he left there after his Frosh year. Is that correct? And yes, the Garvins are well known in the Heights and everyone keeps up with everyone so yes we will know how he is doing. Ty is a fine young man and will be successful at anything he endeavors to accomplish. Yes Aaron is my son. And yes he left VMI. The rigors of the school prove to be to much for him to bear. From reporting to campus Aug. 10th and not being allowed to come home until Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring break was hard. The 30 mile marches with 50lbs packs and virtually no females made it tough. He loved his coaches and teammates though. The military aspect to VMI and the football conditioning in my opinion somewhat conflict with each other. You won't see a lot of really big bruising kids up there because (IMO) they keep you run down pretty good. I think that is one of the reasons VMI struggles in their football program is because the lack of size on the offensive and defensive lines. My son reported to VMI at around 240lbs and by Christmas he had lost about 15lbs. Usually football players go to college and get bigger and stronger. For my son the school wasn't right for him. As a parent on our visit, I loved it, but I didn't know if he would like it or not. It was totally his decision. Maybe Va. Tech would have been a better choice? Hindsight is 20/20.
  8. Hey Comp, do you have any contact with the Ty Garvin family? I would like to know how Ty does at VMI. Its a tough place to go for school, but it is an impressive institution. I wish him the best.
  9. I'm hearing that kids are coming out of the wood work at Science Hill with the arrival of the new coach. We will see how many stay out after Carter's boot camp. From what I hear it will be tough! Looking forward to it GO TOPPERS Well that will be the question. How many like his coaching style enough to stay with the program? Well, the norm for the beginning of the season is usually around 80-85 kids. So if 100 kids come out and 50% can't cut it, then that will be ok. You just want the kids that really want it and work hard to stay.
  10. I'm hearing that kids are coming out of the wood work at Science Hill with the arrival of the new coach. We will see how many stay out after Carter's boot camp. From what I hear it will be tough! Looking forward to it GO TOPPERS
  11. Y'all talk as if Ralph is already gone. As far as I know, it isn't official that Ralph is coming to Science Hill. I hope he does, but nothing is official. If he is coming, why haven't they announced it? And with all the coaches coming back, what would Ralph coach specifically? Just curious.
  12. Well, Centre College is not Ivy league, but is a very high academic institution for sure. Didn't a running back from Boone go there a few years ago?
  13. Agreed. I saw one of the Toppers is going somewhere too. I didn't know if anyone from there would go but it is great to see some life in that aspect of the program too. I was hoping we would hear about something from Sumo from Crockett but nothing so far. Surely Sumo will go somewhere! He is a heck of a running back! I heard Janeway from Science Hill was going to an ivy league school and play ball. But, I haven't seen his dad to confirm that.
  14. Yes it is very good to see our local kids get an opportunity to play college football regardless of NAIA, DIII, DII, FCS (DI-AA) or DI. Not many young men get a chance regardless of the level of play. Its a tough transition and very different than high school. I wish all the local guys much success. GO TOPPERS
  15. I wish Scott Smith the best of luck in the future. I was hopeful when he was hired, mainly because it was my sons senior year. My sons senior year was a disappointment. Even though he (my son) faired ok personally, as a team it was hugely disappointing.
  16. Aaron Trent is doing well. He was not redshirted at VMI. He started on special teams (kick offs & kickoff returns). Looks as though, he may be moved to defensive end. Aaron was 3rd on the depth chart at outside linebacker. We'll see come spring practice on what happens. Solomon Duannah was redshirted at Omaha. He isn??™t very happy there. He may transfer out. I haven't heard anything yet on Issac.
  17. Okay . . . This will probably be one of my last posts on coacht and I would like to say that I have enjoyed reading and posting the last two football seasons. Our time is up with high school football (until the grand kids come along). First of all, I would like to enquire about the status Jonathan Metcalf? How is he doing? I have being praying for the young man. Second, congratulations to Dobyns-Bennett for the win Friday night. You guys capitalized on all of our mistakes. That is what good teams do. It has been my experience that D-B program is a class act. Observing the D-B faithful from the visitor side is quit a sight. It is obvious the tradition is deep and the support is strong! Good luck this week, I will be pulling for our Region 1 brother. It has certainly been a tough year for us at Science Hill. Lots of finger pointing and blame to be passed around, I guess. I hate it for our seniors especially. There is no need for our boys to hang their heads. Most of us cried after the game mainly because it was our last. We gave it all we had. There is a good crop of younger athletes coming up and it is my hope that through our tribulations this year, Science Hill will be better and stronger in the future. As for the kind comments about #44 Aaron Trent . . . Thank you! No, he hasn't committed to any college yet. (Va. Tech wants to make him into a defensive tackle?) We are going to see where the Lord leads. And if He leads to Taft University (home of the Jumbo's) then so be it.
  18. Sorry to hear about the accident . . . I for one will not wait until tomorrow night??™s game, I will be praying now.
  19. I'm not taking about it being the Super Bowl to Coach Smith; I'm referring to the players. For the seniors, this is it! They may have been beaten, bruised and embarrassed at times, but they are NOT intimidated and will come out swinging. And there is a distinct possibility that D-B will punch SHHS in the mouth and bloody their nose, but I am quit confidant D-B will know they have been in a fight! And SHHS does have a punchers chance. (Of course I am referring to adhering to all (most) of the TSSAA rules and regulations of high school football) Just wanted to clarify that. Lets have a good ole fashion football game Friday night and have fun.
  20. Well . . . Not so fast . . . I can probably speak for a few, but I can certainly speak for one! You won't see his face turn pale! To him, this is it! This is the Super Bowl! While you all "seem" to be more concerned about whom you are going to play in the play-offs of the first round. I"m thinking this is a very dangerous game for D-B.
  21. The only comments I have for this game with D-B is . . . Its been 13 years since we beat D-B and 27 years since we have beat them in their own back yard. With the way things have been going for us, I don't expect any good luck, good bounces, and good calls from the refs. All odds are against us. D-B looks to be running in stride and we . . . uhh . . . we . . . well, I have no words. Toppers, just give it all you have on the field and when it is all said and done and you have given it all you have . . . you just never know, that is why we play the game. HAVE FUN GUYS!
  22. Hey topvol98, what did you think about that late hit on our quarterback, and then our fullback returning the favor with a little extra? That is what I call sticking-up for your brothers on the field. “I am sure glad the penalties offset each other”, those 15 yd penalties hurt. After last nights game, I have come to the conclusion that we are cursed! I just couldn’t believe my eyes. I don’t know what to say . . . ?
  23. Wow . . . Hmm . . . I'm not what sure what all is going on with this Science Hill football team, but it might make for an interesting finish. I just know bits and pieces of what's going on, and I'm not sure if I even want to know . . . One thing is for sure, I would like to see a strong finish! I think Science Hill wins this one. I'm pretty sure they will. I hope so. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  24. I have been quiet for several weeks. But, I am going to say . . . I am a proud dad of a proud senior on this Science Hill football team. Even though this has been a very disappointing season so far and we are shocked by our 3-5 record we can still hopefully finish strong and set an "example" for the younger ones coming up. There is some serious talent coming up and coming back and my son believes Coach Smith to be a good coach. Although my sons (our) time is almost up, he (we) knows many of the young ones coming up and he (we) tries to encourage them to WORK HARD and BELIEVE. I think Science Hill will be okay; it is just going to take some time. GO HILLTOPPERS
  25. I know a lot of players read these posts and I know everyone is frustrated. But, we can finish strong guys if we focus at the task at hand and that is defeating Campbell County. We can do it! Regardless of what everyone is saying we still need to beat the man in front of us! So lets get it done! GO TEAM! P.S. Is the Campbell County stadium on the school campus at 150 Cougar Ln?
