  1. This is what Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett should be doing every year. Going toe to toe like the heavy weights they are. GREAT GAME! Good luck to both teams next week.
  2. It's been, what? 30 yrs since Science Hill has won at D-B? The mental demons have to be slain before S-Hill wins this game.
  3. I'm looking forward to the game. Science Hill is very talented this year, but the Indians are very talented in skilled positions. The option with those two guys will be nearly imposible for SH to stop. The DB line blocks well too - I don't want to forget them. But, Science Hill IS capable of beating DB. I hope everyone stays healthy!
  4. Yes ~ I agree ~ My son was a senior when Scott Smith rolled in ~ What a mistake!
  5. I have watched Science Hill play football for years. I agree Voltnh . . . "talent", size, speed has never been a question. This is one of the better teams at S-Hill across the board (top to bottom) that I have seen in a long, long time. Can Coach Carter and company make the kids BELIEVE? Once they BELIEVE, they will then go to the next level. 10+ wins won't be a question. It starts tomorrow night. We will see . . . ? ! ?
  6. Its a judgment call on S-Hill's part! Two of the reasons why Science Hill didn't go with Mike Turner. #1 - He had an opportunity to head coach at S-Hill and jumped ship after 2 years. And more important #2 - Age! - - - Mike Turner is only looking at a few more years of coaching left. And S-Hill is hoping to have a good coach for many years. I am sure some of you will argue - I would rather have 5 years of Mike Turner than 15 to 20 years of Stacy Carter. There again - its a judgment call. Its easy to be an arm-chair athletic director and or an arm-chair coach.
  7. Toppers . . . "You have to play this game like somebody just hit your mother with a two-by-four". Dan Birdwell GO SCIENCE HILL !!!
  8. That's sweet . . . I remember when my son was mesmerized by the older kids. And when he was in the spot light, he made a special effort to show attention to the young one's by giving his wrist sweat bands away and helmet stickers. Its always good to encourage the young one's coming up.
  9. This game will be a hard hitting, tough game. Science Hill seems to be getting stronger every week. The D-B monkey that has been riding the Toppers back for the last . . . what? 18 years!? Will be hard to shake. The team that makes the least mistakes, WINS! Science Hill needs to harness their high spirited emotions and eliminate those 15 yd penalties. Just one of those 15 yd personals against D-B could mean the difference in a win or a loss.
  10. Get well soon Comp. Praying for you buddy. Miss reading your posts.

  11. Good for him! I hope he does well up there. Its a tough school.
  12. Comp . . . Have you heard how Ty Garvin is doing at VMI?
  13. THSVikings2004, a win is a win! My son was the senior middle linebacker in that game and it still hurts me to this day, 3 years later. Should be a good game Friday night.
  14. Hey, I'm out of a job to after 27 yrs. I hear ya, I get where you are coming from . . . I am just kinda letting my daddy instincts kick in when I see someone go after our young one's.
  15. THAT'S A LOW BLOW - What's your credentials? Did you or yours even make it to the varsity field on Friday nights?? That's not cool!
  16. Cap . . . Good for you and yours. I love watching my kids do anything. And if they earn any accolades, it is that much more fun.
  17. Comp, I know it has only been two days, but have you heard any feedback from the Garvin family on how Ty is doing at VMI so far?
  18. Thats true - I'm unemployed for the first time in 27 yrs myself.
  19. I will say, that this years Topper team (as a whole) is the best looking team I have seen in the 5 years I have been following the program. The offense is already clicking better now than anytime in the last 5 years. As long as people stay healthy, it should really be fun to watch. Defense needs to pick it up. But, overall, looking sharp!
  20. That's to bad FB. I hate to hear that. That just means the other sports will just have to work harder at fund raising within the individual sports. I think that at most schools, football and basketball are self supporters. I am an old Boone player/graduate from back in the day. And moving to the city, we are blessed with more money, but we still fund raise. I feel for you all. There is still a lot of money in Gray, Jonesborough, Sulphur Springs and surrounding areas. Just need to try and encourage people to help support the local school. Although my kids are all Toppers, I still have a fondness for my old red and gold.
  21. Yeah, I seen it yesterday. Yellow spray paint on the face of the Topper mascot. Absolutely horrible! If I catch'em, I'll run'em down! Some people don't have any respect for anything. It could have been much worse. It is almost like someone interrupted the act, because it is a small area. I don't know if it will be cut out and replaced or how they will fix it. Its really a nice facility. If I was playing football or soccer, I would really be excited! Heck, I'm just a spectator and I am excited!
  22. Yeah Comp, I agree. I jog around the Freedom Hall track two or three times a week, so I am watching it pretty close and seems to me things are moving pretty slow. I'm no engineer either, but I'm "thinking" maybe once the foundations are all laid maybe things will speed up. From my understanding, it should be up and ready to go by Sept. 3rd. I have heard Coach Carter has had to crack the discipline whip on some kids that thought they could slack off some because of finals week. Running that Pepsi hill is brutal. ha ha I also heard that those wolverine helmets are no more. Already painted over and a new SH decal will go on the sides. New home and away jerseys too. Not sure why new home jerseys were purchased, because new home jerseys were bought last year. Feedback I'm getting is the kids are excited. Will the excitement and confidence be translated to the field? Time will tell. I hope so. That's all I've got to pass on.
  23. I know when my son played a couple of years ago, I thought we had the athletes to really win, but we had a very dismal and disappointing season of 3-7. So disappointing! PowerPlus, you did have the athletes. You just didn't have the coaches. Athletes are nothing without coaches. Good coaches pull athletes out of the shadows. In the case of the 'Toppers in '07 the athletes were visible. The coach didn't have to pull them out of the shadows. Every school has the ingredients, not just Science Hill. But it takes a Chef to create a wonderful dish. Some schools have more potential than others and it is obvious to everyone that the 'Toppers have the most potential of us all. It should be an embarressment for your community to have to endure what you have. That would never happen at DB. DB has what no one else has...a tradition. Many may call them the one and done Kings but they rule by tradition. It's the attitude at the supper table. They are soldiers of an Army that believe in their General. It will never be allowed to change. It is embedded. I agree 100% - Soo true!
