  1. No, no . . . now I didn't say or imply that. I have no doubt Phillips is a superstar. It just seems to me every publication I hear or read about concerning high school football in this area is Curt Phillips. Whether it is on the front page or on the radio. It just seems to me there is a lot of pressure put on Curt Phillips. I'm sure he is an awesome football player. But, this is a team sport. Maybe Phillips isn't feeling any heat or pressure at all . . . I don't know. I think if I were in his shoes, I would be feeling a little heat. He defiantly has a bulls-eye on his chest as far as all defenses are concerned. Or wait . . . maybe that is a big red "S" instead of a bulls-eye. And by the way . . . I don't think it is really any big secret what South will be running on offense. Its just a matter of whether we can stop it or not. We'll see tomorrow night!
  2. Me personally . . . I really don't know what to expect in the Science Hill/South game. I have never seen Mr. Phillips play. From what I read and hear, he is a “superstar”. I have no doubt he is a very good player, and probably has good people around him. I have a son that plays for Science Hill and he is very confident in his coaches, the abilities of his teammates and his ability as a player. Truth is . . . we as Science Hill parents and fans haven’t seen what this team and coaches will do when it comes to show time. No more dress rehearsals. In my opinion . . . one of the reasons Science Hill has the edge is because we have a pretty good idea what to expect when we come to Death Valley. South on the other hand will only be guessing. (heck, I’ve seen SHHS practice and scrimmage this spring and preseason and I’ll be guessing myself) But, media and coaches overall has Science Hill as an underdog in this match-up. We’ll see Thursday night! LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!
  3. Well . . . I'm not sure . . . But the rest of the Big East Conference boys don't play in jamborees, we just have scrimmage games.
  4. Ooohhh . . . Don’t yaw just love these preseason polls for everyone to disagree on. There should be some serious separating going on after the first couple of weeks. Don’t yaw just love it!? Go Maroon and Gold!
  5. Here is a look at the area's preseason Top 10: #1 - MORRISTOWN WEST #2 - MORRISTOWN EAST #3 - SULLIVAN SOUTH #4 - DOBYNS-BENNETT #5 - SCIENCE HILL #6 - JEFFERSON COUNTY #7 - SULLIVAN EAST #8 - VOLUNTEER #9 - TENNESSEE HIGH #10 - ELIZABETHTON
  6. Why did Jefferson County play in the IMAC jamboree? They are 5A Big East conference.
  7. There is no doubt Curt Phillips is "big time" and he could possibly beat you on his own. I am glad Science Hill is coming to Death Valley as a slight underdog. Everyone talks so much about offense, defense and individual players. How is South's kicking and punting?
  8. I wasn’t there . . . are there any witnesses that would like to elaborate on what happened in this last scrimmage before the season?
  9. IMO . . . I really don't think it will be that high of a scoring affair. The team that scores 3 touchdowns or more wins! Science Hill's offense is sputtering a bit, but the coaches are diligent in getting this engine to fire on all cylinders. And I think Science Hill's defense will keep them in the game. Even against the Mighty Phillips and company! It should be fun to watch and see what happens when the lights come on, the crowd cheers (or boo's) and the bands begin to play. There should be a huge crowd on hand at Death Valley to witness the Hilltoppers of Science Hill and the Rebels of Sullivan South! I can't wait!
  10. Well . . . How did it go? Who were the fastest linemen, longest pass and etc.
  11. I heard you guys were struggling a little over there, but who isn’t? I haven’t heard of anyone hitting on all cylinders in preseason. I heard you ‘all better be aware of Happy Valley, they are not looking too bad in preseason. Good luck to you guys (except of course on Aug. 31) for a prosperous season.
  12. Norris is a good looking QB and I would say his time will come, BUT he isn't ready for varsity nor is he better than Sharp. Norris has had full opportunity to compete for a starting job and I can assure you Coach Smith will put the player that will give Science Hill the best chance for a victory on the field. But, in my humble opinion, Norris is third in the QB rotation and probably won't knock Sharp off the top spot next year either. Everyone needs to be ready to play when his time comes. Never know when an injury will occur. Just work hard and be ready!
  13. Exactly! So why didn't he send the "1's" back out on the field like was agreed upon before the scrimmage? You said it . . . "we don't have anything to prove". I rest my case!
  14. We're okay . . . This offense will get cranked-up. This is a new system and it is going to take some time. People keep forgetting that scrimmages are for practice and evaluation. Nothing more . . . It's NOT a proving ground for one team against the other (unlike some coaches (Mo-East coach) or parents and others think). Sure you want to do well, but many things can and will change when REAL GAME time begins.
  15. Good post compusatman, as usual pretty good commentary! But, wait a minute . . . I think we have a pretty good QB! You'll see, we'll be working TOGETHER to get-r-done.
  16. Well . . . I don't know about the "man among boys" but on those two scores #44 was on the sideline. Soo . . . ?
  17. Okay . . . Two hours to the waited Morristown East vs. Science Hill scrimmage. (which is what this thread is suppose to be about) I will be looking for the opinions, thoughts and assessments of the match from both sides this evening and tomorrow. I pray that everyone gets some work done without any injuries. Good luck orange and black.
  18. Why don't you guys start an East vs. West thread. This is the wrong thread to keep talking about respect between the two programs. Let your play on the field do your talking. P.S. Doesn't Morristown East have a state championship under their belt?
  19. Sullivan North High School –Has 703 students with a 10.7% drop in enrollment. Sullivan East High School – Has 989 students with a 1.1% drop “ “ Sullivan Central High School – Has 999 students with 8.6% drop “ “ Sullivan South High School – Has 1056 students with 3.3% increase.
  20. I was told Morristown East is going to be wearing black for the Science Hill scrimmage today. Is this true? Are you guys rolling into Johnson City wearing black in this 95 degree heat?
  21. Listed below are the enrollment numbers from January 2006 according to the TSSAA Johnson Co. High School (4A)- 683 Elizabethton High School (4A)- 774 Greeneville High School (4A)- 864 Dobyns Bennett High School (5A)- 1,799 Science Hill High School (5A)- 2,031
  22. / I would consider Morristown and Greenville as part of Northeast Tennessee. Especially Greenville!
  23. Isn't Fritz a D-B graduate? And yes I have to agree with "srupley", so to speak...to be the man you must beat the man. Preseason or in season poles really don't mean much. They are however fun to read. Things are always settled on the field.
  24. Hmm . . . When was the last time Science Hill was listed ahead of D-B in any pole. And probably the first time ever for South! I guess Sullivan South has a big bull’s-eye on them now.
  25. It’s all hear-say evidence so far, but listening to some football coaches and interested parties along the way during football media days, here’s a quick preseason top five for Northeast Tennessee: 1. Sullivan South (Class 4A) 2. Science Hill (Class 5A) 3. Dobyns-Bennett (Class5A) 4. Tennessee High (Class 4A) 5. Johnson County (Class 4A) Doug Fritz is a sports writer for the Johnson City Press.
