I'm sorry, just now got a chance to have a "coffee break." The 'DC' does keep the stats, and uses it to evaluate the preformance of his defense. When someone does not have good stats, he goes to the film to check and see if they were doing other valuable things, like occupying double teams, that do not show up in the stats. He has said as much to the boys, and congratulates the DL for such things in front of the group, recognizing their effort. He has also congratulated the corners for turning plays back towards the middle, another thing that does not show up in the stats. If you went and asked him, he would probably tell you the stats, just as he does anyone who ask, including the players. It is no secret. If you come to the games, you would be able to tell that #34 is making 3 tackles to everyone elses 1 tackle. In fact, you could probably watch the film with him and you could see this. Put to make an issue on this website, when it is a non-issue to the players is rediculous. You are creating animosity in a lockerroom that is as tight as family right now. Sportie Mom said it, they congratulate each other for their play. There is no egos on Unaka's defense, and the 'DC' makes sure of that. He fusses at each kid equally, as well as encourages them equally. If you would ask more players than just your son, you would know that. The 'DC' as you call him, or Coach Smitley, is not stat driven, he is result driven. He will do what is neccesary to get the best results on the field, and ultimately, that is a win. As to you saying Tim Chambers gets his stats from the 'leak', I think you are partially correct. I think if you ask Tim, he will tell you he did not get them for at least half of the games they played. Even if it is wrong to keep up with the stats, it is equally wrong to get on here and put down any individual. These are young men, who are going out there and giving their all. and do not deserve you coming on here and putting them down. If the whole stat thing is negative, what you are doing on here is far worse. If you wanted the truth, you would ask someone else besides your good friend krich (no offense krich). Ask the teams Unaka played who the better of the linebackers were. they are all outstanding kids, and good players, but there are some players who are better than others. Your kid might be better at something else. They all have strengths and weaknesses. And the coaches at Unaka know how to put those kids in position to help the team. Key word being TEAM. Th 'DC" doesn't just keep track of individual stats, he keeps up with defensive team stats. Like it or not, they have come together as a team, and will not let anything, yourself included, dissrupt that. I myself look forward to seeing what this group of LB's can do next year since we get them all back next year. Like it or not, the film never lies. If you want to sit down and watch it with coach smitley, just ask him. Overall, he's a pretty good guy. I'm sure he would love to watch it with you. Jacob Estep is sure not a looser or a glory hound as you put it, he plays hard and just as any kid does likes to see his accomplishments recognized. As for your (LEAK) you are so worried about. If he is so over rated why was he picked by the johnson city press as CAPTAIN of the ATG Team(Thats ALL TOUGH GUY) on Tuesday Oct. 31st. He was the only jonior on the first team, with players from DB, Science Hill, Hampton, Johnson County, Sullivan South, Etc. so as you can see as Captain of this team he must be doing something right. You can read his (Padded)Stats in the Eliz. Star why would the sports writters have any reason to pad them?

#34 Jacob Estep, UNAKA, There is a reason he was named Captain of the 19th annual ATG TEAM (all-tough guy) in todays Johnson City Press, Because he is TOUGH!!!!! He will rock your world.

I don't know if you could say it's the best, but UNAKA has an awesome defence!!!!! some of the best linebackers in the region in #18 taylor and #40 Peters as well as #34 Estep, who will make you think a truck has run over you and #6 Carpenter will ring your bell at FS!!!!!

We all appreciate your valued critque of our defensive unit as a whole, however, you should have seen a game in the second half of the season before making a comment. #18 has not been part of our defensive front for at least 4 ballgames. He has become a valued part of our linebacking corp though. Yes, stats are a good thing. Whats bad is when parents take it personal, like it is an attack on how good or bad their child is doing. I'm going to bet that you are in this category. Sportiemom said it best. the kids do not put anything into the stats. they all realize it is a team and defensive unit, not individuals. If the DL was not occuping double teams, our LB's would not be open as often to make the tackles they do make. If the DL was not pressuring the QB, our DB's would not be able to take advantage of poor throws and make plays. They all feed off of each other, and play as a team. If this stuff was not being brought up to them from the outside, it would never bother them. The lockerroom right now has a family atmosphere to it. with no jealousy. If your child is not getting the recognition with the stats, tell him to work harder, but above all, work within the system of the defense. Parents need to quit whining and just support the team. There is an important game this week and players and coaches alike need out support.

first of all let me say Cosby didn't beat Unaka, UNAKA BEAT UNAKA!!!!!!! they have an awesome defence, but without any kind of offence week after week you can not win football games. the Estep kid is a good linebacker and tonight at fullback did a great job at opening up the holes for medina but you have to hold on to the football. and the line has got to block, without blocking Carpenter can do nothing, but get sacked!!!! ; I am not trying to take anything away from cosby they won the game, but not because they are a better football team or the 6th ranked team in the state that's a joke. and they will find that out when Hampton rolls in next friday night to give them the whooping of a lifetime!! just like when unaka rolled into Cloudland two years ago 9-1 they hadn't played anybody either and they left roan mtn. knowing they were not as good as they thought, Same thing this Friday when hampton comes to town!! Eagles better get ready cause you are going to be 7 and 1 and saying we weren't as good as we thought we were!!!!!!

ESTEP HAD 17 SOLO TACKLES AND 5 ASSISTS AGAINST HAMPTON IN UNDER 3 QUARTERS, BEFORE BEING TAKEN OUT OF THE GAME SO THE YOUNGER KIDS COULD GET IN SOME PLAYING TIME. HE'S THE REAL DEAL. HE LEADS ALL OF EAST TN. AND I THINK HE IS 3RD IN THE STATE WITH 59 SOLO AND 25 ASSISTS GOOD LUCK JACOB!!!!!! KEEP IT UP
