  2. According to Jaime at the paper.... From: Lackey, Jaime [mailto] Sent: Monday, December 01, 2008 2:14 PM To: xxxxx Subject: Re: Message via the Web site Mr. xxxxxx, We've redesigned the Best of Preps pages for this year, so it's taken us a little longer to put them together. I'd say it will be at least a week before they start running, and maybe two. Thanks, Jaime
  3. The Mid-State easily has the most depth of any part of the state, so this list is probably the hardest. It is also hard for a great player on an average team to make the list. Kat Nigro, Livingston Academy, is one obvious exception, though her reputation and being on the National U15 team probably has more to do with it than anything. Without any doubt, there are deserving people who don't get recognized outside of their own team, district, etc. If a great player's team has limited/no opportunities to play against the "name" teams in the region, it's very difficult for their talent to be observed/compared. Anybody of above average talent can look great on a weak team; the better measure of their skill is when they play against a great team, and they still shine. I knew very few of the players on the list, so I can't say whether or not somebody should not be on the list. Was anbody surprised with the Player of the Year pick? She is a great player, and I saw her play last year in the State Tournament, but didn't see her this year. Didn't know is she had a POY season this year or not.

  7. I believe he is referring to the St. Agnes team from 2006. Back then, Water Dog was singing this team's praises, yet they didn't really get any respect.

  10. Good point. If you can't get a bunch of talented players to play as a team, you won't win it all. Almost always, though, the coaches awards go to the top winning teams, or those almost there. I agree that almost anybody can improve on the "25's", but to take them all they way to 80's is the sign of a very good coach. Another way to think of it, IMO, is to take a team very far (or all the way) without any "stars" or stand-out players. I didn't mean to demean Siegel's coach on his award. Siegel got the brass ring, and he (and the team) deserve their moment in the sun.
  11. It's still too early for NCAA, but NAIA signing have begun. Please post articles or information on 2009 signings, not just commitments.... Hope Hackney - Wilson Central High School (Club - Metros) to Trevecca Nazarene University http://www.tnutrojans.com/article/265.php
  12. Criteria -- Winning I believe the winners that are picked are usually those who take their teams the farthest. While it won't happen, the coaches that deserve it the most are those that develop the talent they have the furthest. If a Coach has talent of 90, and develops it to 95 and wins it all, that probably isn't as big a coaching success as the coach who starts with 25, and develops it to 80, not enough to win it all, but further than the other team had to go.

  14. Even with all those private schools you mentioned going to D2-A, the majority of private schools in Tennessee are still in Division 1, for Girl's soccer that means A/AA. Girl's soccer, IMO, is the exception to the rule as far as privates vs. publics with the 1.8 multiplier in effect. It's still more of a rural vs. urban issue, with Club being the dominate factor. With girl's basketball, those schools that Private may dominate tend to slaughter us. Therefore, the East Ridge's of the world get their revenge on the Notre Dame's. With the move, the A/AA picture will shift some, so instead of 0-2 publics making State, it might be 1-6, which probably still won't satisfy some. As long as you have 100 schools belonging to A/AA, it will still be a valid program. Schools with a large number of club players will still dominate. That is a fact. This fact is also true in AAA, but you don't get people screaming about it there, when the Brentwoods and Franklins (and Siegel's, etc) will always have advantages over the large rural AAA schools. If some got their wish and all private schools went to D2, what would A/AA be left with? Would that be a "valid program"? It's the mix of publics and private being to A/AA that helps ensure that it remains a strong program for a variety of sports, Girl's Soccer Included.
  15. This might be the districts for A/AA http://www.tssaa.org/A-AAdistricts.pdf Better than what I thought, though I still find it odd that Chattanooga A/AA teams are spread out over 3 different districts....
  16. Had to look it up.... (Wikipedia.org is great!) Schadenfreude is malicious pleasure taken from observing the misery of another. The word referring to this emotion has been borrowed from German by the English language[1] and is sometimes also used as a loanword by other languages. Philosopher and sociologist Theodor Adorno defined schadenfreude as ???largely unanticipated delight in the suffering of another which is cognized as trivial and/or appropriate.???[2]
  17. It appears that Notre Dame and CCS are going to District 7. Looking at who has girl's soccer programs, you see Notre Dame and CCS - downtown Chattanooga Sequatchie County - 33 miles, 50 minutes Jackson County - Gainesboro, TN - 126 miles, 2 1/2 hours What a screwed up district Other schools in the other half of the region (district 8) include Livingston Academy York Institute (Jamestown, TN) DeKalb Co Smith Co. Friendship Christian (Lebanon, TN)
  18. I agree with your assessment 100%
  19. Euro is missing some of Baylor's games. CoachT had a more complete record....
  20. I believe the districts come out today....
  21. It's not soccer, but here is the districts for class A in football, basketball, etc. http://www.dnj.com/article/20081113/SPORTS...018/1006/SPORTS
  22. I haven't looked at Siegel's schedule, but Soddy's schedule, while good, wasn't as strong at Baylor's. Baylor allowed only 9 goals all season, 2 versus Siegel, 1 versus Ensworth, 1 versus Hutcheson, 1 versus Notre Dame, 2 versus JPII, and 2 versus Father Ryan. Siegel allowed 14 goals spread among 10 different teams (including 4 goals to Baylor). Soddy allowed 7 goals, 1 versus Riverdale (twice), 1 versus Notre Dame, 1 vs. Cleveland, 1 versus Rhea County, and 2 versus Cleveland. As far as Baylor's Offensive powerhouse comment, Baylor never ran the score up on anybody (no pink card's), so they only scored 50 total goals over 19 games. I would term Baylor a well balanced team, that probably would have beaten Father Ryan (and perhaps won state as well) 2 times out of 3. This is from a non Baylor parent too....
  23. I think it is hard to compare at the district/regional level. I doubt there is any specific criteria as to the number of individuals that get honored. Region 2 in AAA apparently likes to honor a large number, and Oak Ridge was a large beneficiary this year. D2 East has only 3 teams (Baylor, GPS, and Knox-Webb), yet named 21 people to their list. Knox Web, with a pretty poor overall record (4-7-1 per CoachT) still named 6 people. Baylor, with a 17-1-1, named 8, and GPS named 7. The All-State lists (last year) named 51 at the AAA level, 42 at the A/AA level, and 31 at the D2 level. I have no idea how they got those numbers, or even if they are proportionally correct or not. For me, it is up to the teams/individuals to decide if the lists are too diluted or not. I would also be remit if I didn't mention that there will always be individuals who get included in these lists whose contribution (this year) might not warrent inclusion, and there will certainly be individuals who should get acknowledged but are left off the list.
