  1. I believe I did read the topic of this thread. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have mentioned that it's good that people are interested in the younger kids. And if you've read this thread you'll see that "my school" has a freshmen team.
  2. I never said I didn't like freshmen football, just wondering about the trash talk of a freshmen game. is that what we want to be teaching 14/15 year old kids who have 3 more years of football after their freshmen year, to act that way?
  3. who talks crap about a freshmen game? the ones that count are on fridays. it's good to see so much interest in the younger kids, don't get me wrong, but come on, it's freshmen
  4. you're right on those assumptions as far as I know, but that's just it, assumptions. Too many weeks of football left for that.
  5. I know Halls has to still be gloating over their win over West last night, but it's about time to go ahead and shift the focus on over to Bearden. Any thoughts about how this one might play out? Personally, I feel our offense has been unreal since halftime of the Central game. There has been so many different formations and it appears the staff has really been innovative and opened up the play book as Turner, Kitts, Wag and company get more and more comfortable with what they're asked to do. Kudos gotta go out to Coach Ward calling the plays and Coach Hurst getting those big guys up front ready. I never thought I'd see Halls run the ball like they did last night. Great game guys and keep improving! Anyone know anything about Bearden? I know they beat West, but what do they do offensively? How are they defensively? This should be a great match-up. Can't wait.
  6. wow, this must've been devastating to blow a 27 point lead. Cherokees are still much improved and hopefully can rebound and learn from this and be that much hungrier. Congrats to Clinton! Hope the dragons can build a little bit and forget all the crap that goes on out there. Good luck to both teams throughout the rest of the year.
  7. Wow, didn't realize our freshmen had scored 92 in 10 quarters of football. Not bad at all, what is that a 35 point average?
  8. Actually speed doesn't entirely kill in this region, hence why Maryville has been able to shun all the speed that Central/West has had over the years. You can't tell me that Maryville has been faster than Central over the years, it's just not true. To win in this region you better be able to run the ball and stop the run. That's the two main factors to win. That doesn't mean be able to one without the other. You have to be able to do both.
  9. speakin of Reese, anyone heard how he's doin? Any chance he'll make it back this year? I know it's gotta be tough on a kid as tough as him to not be out there.
  10. Actually Gun, Halls has shown the ability to take chunks off the clock. In the beginning of the second half at Central, Halls took the ball 80 yards and took over 6 minutes off the clock. BUT, that's the only time I can remember thusfar that it hasn't been the big play type like you said. I don't think Halls should worry so much about controlling the ball per say as to worrying about stopping them defensively. The offense has shown it can score. It just better show up Friday night. I look for this one to be a shootout with West coming out on top.
  11. not entirely true, but i agree region matters most. If for some reason the region were to have tied records at the end of the year in region play, then it would go to best overall record if Head to head doesn't work, so the cupcakes powell has is to their advantage in that regard. However, playing better teams can make a team better.
  12. I don't know about Halls surprising anyone thusfar. West has had a very difficult schedule and has definitely found their groove like you say. West should win this one by 3 TDs probably, but anything can happen once the helmets are strapped. See yall Friday
  13. Juggernauts like Gibbs? Look at West, they've played Farragut, Bearden and Sevier County. Central's played Cookeville and Farragut. Halls has played Sevier County and will play Bearden. Who has Powell played? I think what everyone is getting at here is the lack of a quality non-region opponent on Powell's schedule. Maryville by as many as GQ wants
  14. They'll probably talk bout them moonpies and garbage service the rebs use to influence their recruits. bahaha
  15. Again, there are too many different combinations to specifically point out who has what because of different secondary coverages and the different blitzes which may have been called. Any way you cut it, the players were put in position to make the plays, they just didn't. QB Mcmillan (sp?) was hit several times, but not wrapped up by the Halls defenders, which ultimately cost them the game(along with turnovers and penalties). Did you see the same thing I saw ZCAR? I went back and watched the dreadful thing again on Comcast last night too. Players were there, just didn't execute.
  16. The difference is going to be personnel in my opinion. Instead of having 4 linebackers in the game you have 2. Instead of 3 secondary players in the game you have 5. Typically, the SS are a cross between a linebacker and a secondary player. Depending on particular defensive calls, the difference can be quite a bit. Overall, on paper, it might look the same, but be very different because of the type of players in the game.
  17. Runkle, I'm not sure exactly how anyone on here thinks that the tackle/middle backer will get the dive either myself. Hence, what you said in that they'll get blocked by the guard, tackle and TE. The instance where the DT tackle would have the dive would be based on a 5-3 defense if I'm not mistaken. Then the DE would have QB. It's all based on first threat, blocking schemes, running back(s) alignment, QB alignment, FB alignment and defensive alignment. The other instance where the DT would have the dive is on the midline plays where the DT is the one being read, but that is not triple option and Central wasn't running that the other night. Central was reading the DE and when the DE didn't come down and take the FB, the QB gave it to him. I think once or twice this happened. There was once where the qb gave it to the fb and he met a big 62 hard and clear and quickly was taken down. The problem Halls had was players executing the system. They ran it the way it has to be run. How many times was the Mcmillan(sp?) kid hit in the backfield before gaining at least 5+ yards? Might want to go back and check that out guys before we get on here talking about scheming the option with the DT taking the dive and the DE on the QB. Besides all this, Halls appears to me to be a 4-2-5 team than anything else. Looks like they'll walk those SS up on the ball some, but that appears to be the scheme they were in the other night. If they're in that scheme then it has to be DE on the FB(first threat), middle backers on QB(their first threat) and the outside safeties on pitch(hence why they are outside guys, they got pitch. But, to thwart any and all of this...if they're is a blitz called, then responsibilities will change based on what the call is. So, any way you cut it there truly is no set in stone way to do it because none of us can for sure say on a particular play what coach Julian is calling. All I know is that in a 4-2-5, this is the base way it has to be done, with your FS being a bonus guy on everything, I forget what they call that.
  18. I'm not sure, but if memory serves me correctly, in about 95% of all scenarios the Defensive Ends have FB on the option.
  19. Is there a need for a thread on this game? Who does Maryville play next week?
  20. I'd say it's really hard to judge that at this point. One game doesn't mean much unless you played Maryville game 1 and won that. But, that's not the case. Halls beat a pretty good Sevier County team. Now Halls has to play a better Central team who'll have their star back at tailback. Halls Central might be a good game, we'll have to wait and find out. To say that Halls will beat Powell when there's what, 4 or 5 games between now and then is atrocious. It's one thing to think so LSMFT, but another to actually say it on here. Many many things can happen between now and then As for this game, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the Panthers will win. From Powell that is. Lowe is doing an excellent job down there and they should roll on through this week. Good luck to the boys at Powell
  21. This game is very interesting, a lot of hype it seems evolving around this one. What it boils down to is basically what everyone else has said, mostly, which group of linemen controls the line of scrimmage and can Halls prevent the big play? I think Halls is more capable of preventing the big play this year than in years past(perhaps the only exception is the class of 05, not sure though). One thing that the central D must contend with this year that they definitely didn't last year is the different play makers Halls can field. Now you don't only have to worry about Kitts, but also Waggoner. You don't have to worry only about Dayton, but also Johnson and Gresham. Then you turn around and have a qb who is improving dramatically and seems to have really good control of the offense. On the flip side, Central has Wilson, McMillan and Styles Jr. It boils down to whether or not Halls can contain these three. If so, the team from the north side of the ridge has a good shot at it. If not, it'll be a long night come Friday. I'm gonna go with Halls 14 Central 10
  22. Ah, ok. Yes, if there was an inadvertent whistle, then the play is a do-over. The sound is jacked up on my computer so I wouldn't be able to hear that on the link if that were possible.
  23. I'm seeing an incomplete pass here. The ball appears to bounce backwards from the turf. In my opinion it ought to be incomplete as far as the play goes. As far as rules go, it appears from what my old NCAA rule book says that in Section 2 Article 7 e "When in question, the catch, recovery or interception is not completed." That would make me think it should just be ruled incomplete.
  24. good to hear the dad is ok, hope he continues to be ok
