  1. Elizabethton finally gets DB back on the schedule. And with the Maupin kid (QB-SR) transferring to DB from Betsy last January, could make things even more interesting. I guess it’s only fair. We got a Maupin in 2019, they get one now. The Greeneville game is the regular season finale. Slobber Knocker!
  2. This is so true. It’s a popularity contest, with voters casting ballots for their candidate. Bryson Rollins, from Elizabethton, may not have been deserving of the award in 2021, but he wasn’t even in the conversation? He should have at least been a semi finalist! You know, It probably killed them to give Parker Hughes the award in 2020. Great post by the way!
  3. Verified. Maupin to DB. Interesting side bar…I’m hearing DB may be on the schedule. That would be interesting.
  4. I just saw AC schedule. Looks like they dropped Elizabethton. AND, speaking of Betsy, other than the region teams, I have no idea who’s going to play us. I heard Mo West and probably Science Hill but that’s all. We only had 9 games the past two years because we couldn’t find games. I know Rhea Co is dropping us too.
  5. I’m from Elizabethton. I saw AC twice in person. I’ve watched Haywood on film. I’d say yes, AC is better. But, in the grand scheme of things, we’re talking about high school kids who can get up for a game or be intimidated by the the stage. So, all our analysis may go out the window?
  6. When they get on the field, you’ll be surprised by their speed. All the Springfield and Haywood people were saying the same thing in 19 and 20 about Elizabethton. Speed was not an issue. Cyclones had plenty to spare. HERE is the real issue. Line of scrimmage. Which team can control it? The one that does can take the win. Skill positions are fun to watch, offenses are exciting, but defense and line play can be the deciding factor. I know I’ll be watching Saturday for sure. PC got away from Alcoa (rightly so too). Now, it’s their biggest opportunity. But, same can be said for AC getting by Betsy and the Greene Devils. I speculate it’s going to be a great game.
  7. I went off of unapproved website. And there's always a chance those are inaccurate. But, I stand by my prediction. Based on the lack of defense shown by PC (or either team really) in that semifinal game.
  8. And couldn’t stop a team that 99% runs the ball all the time? Everyone talked about the speed out west, and how Springfield and Heywood were so fast in 2019 and 2020. I personally watched Elizabethton curb stomp them by smothering them on defense and, I admit I was even stunned by this, show more speed than either team. Now, PC IS a well balanced team. But, I just haven’t seen the defense that can stop AC. Saturday will be an interesting game for sure. Both teams deserve to be there. But only one will walk away with the Title. And as we all know, anything can happen. That’s why we all are on here. Because we all LOVE our high school football.
  9. You mean the Tomcat team that threw for under 200yds, 1TD and 1int on the season? Man, that ain’t awesome. That’s a one dimensional team. And I didn’t see any defense in that semifinal game from either side. I’ll call it now. AC is a more complete team. That can play defense. Defense wins championships. The offensive side just happens to be good too. AC gets their first Title on Saturday. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. But that’s how I’m viewing it.
  10. If you would have a told me that Elizabethton would give Anderson County their two toughest games all season after the Quarter Finals, I would have looked sideways at you. But, that’s the case! I kinda have to believe Betsy could have pulled another upset on them Devils this year if they could have pulled out a win at AC last week. I really don’t see anyone in Quad 2 that challenges AC. And Haywood had just over 100yds passing for the SEASON. Not balanced enough to compete IMO. Congratulations AC. Go get your respect and get that gold ball back in the East where it belongs.
  11. Jakobe Thomas. I’m actually in Crossville. Watched my Cyclones go down in a hard fought loss to Anderson County. But, while we were already two hours into the 5hr drive to the Borough, thought we’d trek on down to watch Jacobe and our Cyclone Parker Hughes tomorrow. Knights won on a safety when Tullahoma’s center snapped the ball over the punters head. Then in the semifinal, my Cyclones put the mercy rule on the Knights. Elizabethton had 8 offensive possessions, scored 8 TDs. Nolensville is a young school. Only been playing football for about 6-7 seasons. Thought the move to 5A would hurt them. They just keep improving. Their campus and stadium were very nice.
  12. Game over. Well done Mavs. Good luck next week. Should be the game of the week across the state.
  13. It did. But, if they don’t call the holding, I really don’t care.
  14. I’ll trade 1 block in the back for 6 non called holding penalties.
  15. Interesting stats: Elizabethton’s Defense held; Science Hill to 17, (AC 7, Maryville 14) Greeneville to 21, (Tied with DB for lowest) Daniel Boone to 7, (Lowest, and was a defensive TD) AC to 35, (Tied for lowest with Fulton, South Doyle and Beardon) Betsy’s O scored the second most at 34 (Rhea Co 38) In those first three games, no offensive output and the defense was put into a lot of bad situations because of it. Best defensive player out against AC. Better tune in Friday! It should be very interesting.
  16. It was a tall order for Elizabethton last year against Greeneville and for Nolensville against Tullahoma in 2020. Everyone say it with me, “That’s why we play the game!” And that’s why I love football on the high school level.
  17. I’m only going because I’m headed down to watch Parker Hughes at MTSU. It breaks up my drive.
  18. 14 has a hamstring issue. Coach admitted it last night. He didn’t play. If he misses, and since Elizabethton’s best defensive player, who missed the first game, is back, you better check yourself. Just ask the 2020 Tullahoma Wildcats about Nolensville. And the 2021 Greenedevils about EHS. Those games you show up to and expect to be handed a W. Maybe that’s why AC gets no respect. They haven’t earned it yet. But they feel like it’s owed to them. It’s gonna be a great game. A very well coached, physical game. No room for error. And all the pressure is on who? Well, it ain’t E-Town.
  19. I had typed this long post about how good Elizabethton really is. How their 4 losses were to teams with a combined record of 38-4. But you know what? Forget it. This is a team that started 1-4. They’re no threat to AC. All AC has to do is show up and take the W. Just like…Tullahoma did in 2020 against Nolensville. And Greeneville did in 2021 against Betsy. Show up..JUST LIKE THAT..and everything will be ok! Trust me
  20. As usual, I’m going with this; whoever controls the LOS, wins the game. Can you run the ball effectively? Can the line give the QB time to throw? Can you stop the run? Can you make the QB uncomfortable and force quick throws or bad decisions? Will special teams be more of a factor? Ball control, field position, playing penalty free football, limiting turnovers or causing them. These are keys to every game. But these are things I’ve watched E-Town improve upon ever since the first AC meeting. I’m a homer. Betsy 44 - AC 35
  21. Agreed. There’s never been a better opportunity for them. BUT, the pressure will be huge. Betsy looses, nobody bats an eye. AC looses, that sting will hurt them for an eternity. I’m sure Greeneville hasn’t forgotten that hurt from last season. And probably never will. It will be an interesting game.
  22. The rematch is on. AC won’t overlook the Cyclones and the Cyclones have a ton of confidence heading into this game. Let the talk begin……
