Yes reading music is a skill but why should the people who twirl something (and can't read music) get the same credit as the people who had to learn to read difficult music? Is marching and twirling or dancing without reading music any different than playing a sport?
Up until just a few years ago LCHS did give have an athletic period and most athletes used this time to do homework or study (some wouldn't do work or study if you gave them all day, that is the nature of teenagers)and my Mom who played High School Basketball in the 50's has told me in the past they got a study period during their season so they wouldn't fall behind in their school work, so this isn't a new concept. I know my son who plays JV ball on Mondays was up until 12:30am doing homework and studying for a test already this season. With next Mondays game being at Powell instead of home I'm sure it will be another late night.
