  1. To be honest, after the way Boone' played West I thought they were for real. And yes, they may be...and yes, we too are susceptable to being on again/off again. I do apologize for being condecinding if that's the way I presented it. I don't want to pour salt in the wound. I guess I'm just knocked out that they did not show up. I have not seen them play so I can't comment on past performances. I guess if the only game DB fans/players saw us play was the game against them then they would feel we too were unqualified. And that too would be equally unfair. They however, witnessed the THS vs SSHS game. I have not witnessed any other Boone' performance. So for me to say they were the worst team we've played, is the truth. That may not do them justice...and I feel sure that on another day they might just prove otherwise but based on tonights performance I feel some of the less successful teams in the MLC are superior. And 28-19 over North...well I'm not so sure that is all that convincing. But, 18-0 over Greenville was. I'm sorry for being rude but I think last years team was hands down a more aggressive team. Boone' will be 5A soon and their program has come along way. Tomorrow (morning?) Gray and Colonial Heights play for the Optimist championship. It has been competitive all they way down to that level for 6 years that I can personally attest to. So they will go nowhere but up. And really, they have no business being in the 5 Rivers. They are smack dab in the middle of the MLC and they belong here. Anyway, sorry to be a jerk and good luck next year Boone'.
  2. What's the story Cap? Did you take it easy on them or did they actually give you a bit of competition? Looks like it's the battle of Sullivan County vs. Hamblen County...if we could just both win then we could settle this mess like Gentlemen! If that happened would it be in the Castle' or in the Valley'?
  3. OK. I said we would not underestimate Boone'. To be quite honest, we drastically overestimated them. I have not seen Boone' play this year except for scrimmages in the spring and summer with S South. Before the season began we did not have a high opinion of them. But, as the season wore on they seemed to be making it happen. They hung with M West for a bit. Tonight, I don't know...I guess they just didn't show up or something but they were easily the worst team we have played all year. Including Happy Valley. I don't want to discount them because last year they were for real and not just because of Hicks. But tonight...they were dead flat with a play book every bit of a page and a half. Simply one-dimensional. No pass rush whatsoever. And Cameron Jarrett...get real! Curt did not even break a sweat. When they came out after the half...they were asleep. I think North and Unicoi both are much better than Boone'. So M East...it's us baby. In the Valley!
  4. Brad Jeffers (Soph.) entered the game early in the 3rd. In the 4th #15 Taylor Fletcher (Soph) came in and ran the ball until the clock ran out. We did not throw the ball in the 4th. Besides, if we did throw the ball with our backup QB and all second string offense (with the exception of Fletcher) what would be the big deal. It's what we do. Fletcher was 1st string Tailback until he broke his foot against DB so this is his first time on the field in 10 weeks so he doesn't count. Were you at the game?
  5. Trumps were broken at the Castle'. It's time to lead with a Face. No points for going low in this game.
  6. And how could I forget...Yes, PatriotMan Reggie White was the man. Graduated from Chattanooga Howard in 78'/79'. Was All American in Football and Basketball. Was not a Heisman but made up for it in his pro career spanning 15 years. Played at UT...what a man. Any one know if Spurrier was All American in basketball or not?
  7. Darwin Bond was a three time Prep All American at DB in the early 70's. He still holds the 440yd./400meter TSSAA record. He was undedeated in his tenure at DB. He went on to star at UT. I don't think he played other sports but I'm not sure. Bill Justus was All American at Fulton HS in Knoxville in the 60's in football and basketball. I was in the 8th grade when he was drafted in the NBA, ABA, and the NFL all at the same time. I'm sure there are more that I'm unaware of. But like it or not I think Spurrier tops them all.
  8. He also was Prep All-American in 1962 as a Senior at Science Hill as a QB and Kicker. He was undefeated in three years as the 'Toppers star Pitcher. Also played basketball...not sure of those accolades. And yes, he was the only native Tennessean to recieve the Heisman.
  9. Thank you. I'm not knowledgeable on DB's history and I was hoping someone would speak up.
  10. I imagine that information is not for this board.
  11. FormerBlazer...you are always very respectful in your verbage. And I know you were just playing but do you really want to be known as DB? I think not. You must make your own moniker and with the way your community is growing and consequently your program you will soon be in 5A so I suggest you get to it.
  12. Yes, if you look under Kingsport Dobyns Bennett you will find them.
  13. Were they on probation in the years they had good teams? Well they have had good teams for quite some time so I don't think they have been on a standing probation for 37 years, however in 03' in the last game of the regular season against Science Hill and I think at J Fred Johnson Stadium WR Lamon Williams (Highly Touted!!!) burned a Topper' CB for a lengthy TD reception. Upon completion of the burn he proceded to autograph the football and present it to the SH WR and was flagged for a celebration and ejected from the game. And to make matters worse his punishment included (as is normal) bench status for the next game which was the first round playoff against Soddy-Daisy. DB lost in the 1/4 finals that year to Oak Ridge 35-17. Lamon is now in prison I believe. I hope that answered your question, however I could be wrong about the year.
  14. For some reason DB is not in the school listing but is in the year listing complete with scores. Just choose a year. I think the page has a link to provide corrected information so maybe that is the place to suggest a correction.
  15. Here is the TSSAA link: TSSAA . It is buried deep in their site. Just pick your team and a year and you will see the whole bracket for all divisions plus scores. Interesting stuff for those not in the know.
  16. Freshmen will be playing by halftime. M West 63-0 Erwin.
  17. There are a few posters on here that are not exactly South fans. Cool and Confident...I'm not sure if that is correct. Boone' played a great game last year. They will do the same this year. We expect nothing less. We do not direspect our cousins. As I said before, we will not underestimate you. We feel we have the weapons but will we be ready? Will you be ready? If we are on then you will suffer. If you are on then it will be a dog fight. We look for a good game.
  18. There is an unwritten rule among men. Losers are learners, winners are teachers; whiners are not allowed.
  19. Bristol went through the same Black Hole that South did. They emerged just as did South...White Hot. Volunteer doesn't have a prayer. Bristol-44/Volunteer-7.
  20. South will not underestimate Boone'. Boone' will come to play with heart. South always likes to run & gun but the Rebels will have some surprises for them. South will have to play their A game each week to advance...it will be dog fights all the way. M East will take J County but will know they played a playoff game. Bristol will steamroll Volunteer and give M West all they ask for. Boone' and M East are quality programs this year. J County plays the same jawbreaking football every week. M East has the weapons but better strap it on cause' J County likes to hit. Field conditions are everything.
  21. Curt Phillips is a piece of Armor. The punishment this guy takes is astounding. He won't go out of bounds because he will get that extra few yards. Not only can he throw the ball 3/4's the length of the field but he has guts not to mention heart. These things combined will take him to high places. Competitors can be jealous and naysayers can whine that he is padding his stats but he is just a Warrior...that's all. We have a farm and are breeding them...Warriors that is. East will be a force to be reconed with next year and most likely will create their own tradition. Go Patriots! However, you must learn to play clean. You must come by your success honestly otherwise it will come back and haunt you. You played us tough but not clean enough for you to be praised for your sportsmanship. I put you in the same category as J. County in this regard. You will become respectable in time and learn to respect respectability. So yes, bring our conference up to speed. Make each game an event...an accomplishment and respect will come to us all. But remember, you are men battling men and in the end must retain your dignity. The SS defense was hit and miss...a bit of an off night. The offense was good but not great. We were missing some salt or pepper or maybe a dash of Tobasco. Curt put it in when he had to. Brad looked good. Not a THS effort by any means. However, Jordan Kitzmiller, you've come a long way baby! You made some hard catches in this game. So congratulations but now it is time to play some real football. Go Rebels!
