  1. I'm not sure I like your tone knack. Irregardless, South threw in the towel long ago. Campbell can't play by herself even though that is how it went. I'm sure she will be relieved to exit to the next level. Congrats to the top 4. And a special kudos to BB. There is not a harder working individual in the Big 8...or NET for that matter. Some say she is scrappy...but she gives it 110% 24/7. I feel Tusculum got a steal. I personally saw her playing at a larger level. And congrats to all the Seniors...I hope the best for them.
  2. Rebelron, you are well respected on these boards. And are always in respect of Maryvilles competition. Conscious not to act to very boastful. A difficult thing to do when you have such a tradition of winning. But did you see the game in question? I fear that you did not. I will wait for your reply before I make assumptions.
  3. Probably should start a Big 8 off season 2011 thread and you are probably speaking of DB players Batman but the latest rumor I hear is Bradley Tallman after leaving VT as a preferred walk-on is currently at ETSU and considering walking on at UT. Heck of an athlete. I hope the best for him.
  4. Many may feel this thread is becoming long in tooth. However, if there were injuries or heaven forbid fatalities then retribution would have been the order of the day. There are rules in place to guard against such happenings. Those rules were not enforced. The reason is anyones guess. The fact is...the game should not have continued. There have been posts in other threads that alluded to similar displays of violence with events involving this school throughout the season. As well in other sports. The TSSAA escaped law suit by a slim margin on this one. If I were an AD I would be hard pressed to schedule this school for any athletic events with my school. Fortunately, I do not live in the same region as this school.
  5. And how old is Colobro? And doesn't he have a serious heart condition? I'm not buying it. In all due respect, he is a wonderful coach. And maybe he is not finished. I think he could teach the local coaches a few things. But why come to East in the first place? And then leave a year later. Sounds cut and dried to me. Speaking of rumors...I heard CS was going to walk on at Knoxville. I truly wish the young man the best where ever he goes.
  6. So were you at the game? Or did you see it on TV? Or neither? With a CoachT+ account and 3500 posts I guess it is obvious you are not a player.
  7. Cornerback 10, were you at the game? Or did you see it on TV? Or neither?
  8. After watching the Trezevant/Greenville game and following the post game circumstances I would be hard pressed to allow my child to compete against this school. A total lack of supervision to actually reinforce the attitude and antics displayed by the players. It was obvious these players were allowed a free hand in what was an "anything goes" street brawl. This school should be barred from competition in general for two years. Period. After being there and then reading all the posts regarding like circumstances throughout the season and in past seasons it is obvious this town, school and players have issues. When someone is maimed or worse, killed at a TSSAA sponsored event involving this school then justice will be served. This school needs to be made an example of now before it is too late.
  9. Victory, I feel most can agree that Science Hill has the quentesential basketball program in this area. We all know how the off season works in that system. However, aside from Bristol and possibly Elizabethton there are no other programs that provide the support you speak of. NE15 and I can name you each and every girl who got a DI or DII ride in the past 8 years and what AAU team they played on. Good is the only prospect to come out of any non AAU affiliated program. She did not stay at ETSU very long but that is another story. She has talent and it was readily seen as you state. ETSU's coach has a knack for seeing the local talent. The testimony comes from the girls who have already gone through a college program. They will tell you in no uncertain terms that high school ball is just a place to practice to keep in shape for the summer AAU league. Sad it is this way but yes, it is the gospel. The Science Hill girls should feel priveledged to have a coach that has it all. The rest of us have to do what we have to do.
  10. Mom, you are not the only one in a dead end high school program. In fact your coach at least understands some basic basketball. And that is to score you have to shoot. My daughters coach tells her not to shoot. And when she says the hay with it and shoots...he takes her out. She's the fastest person on the team (maybe the fastest person in the Big 8) and is a quarter horse that does not run out of gas. She may play 1.5 quarters a game. Last year she averaged 15 points a game and had a few double doubles and one triple double and stayed on the floor without a break. He would constantly tell her to slow the game down. It gives me indigestion to watch her play because she doesn't care anymore. She is living for the summer league. She has a few DI prospects with invites to visit and they did not come from seeing her in high school ball. I have heard you are playing with us this summer and if it turns out to be so we look forward to it. As NE15 said, all the superstars are gone with all getting a scholly so it is wide open. Hope the rest of the season is good for you.
  11. So I guess we need a thread to rename South. I'll throw my suggestion out here. We will call it...Rebel Yell High. I know, I know...Jack is thinking...Stacy Carter Vocational School.
  12. Jhilts is correct. However, this city government has made other more idiotic decisions. NO one is going to be OK being bused to South whether they are college bound or vocational either one. Use common sense. DB is overcrowded...South is empty. DB has a vocational school already built. South does not. Draw the line any way you want and you still only get Orebank, Memorial Blvd. and some chatter in between. What, the city is going to rape the South district and then turn it into a vocational sector? I don't think so.
  13. It has been said that Kingsport is a mill town and will never be anything but...Johnson City, on the other hand, continues to make us look foolish. Mania, I've already stood on the soap box about the wasted money at Hunter Wright Stadium, the new field house (or at least it's asinine location), the new DB parking lot, the monument, versus the need to redesign the DB stadium. The stadium is fixed now. It is what it is and that will just have to satisfy everyone. But with a little fore-thought it could have been done right...the first time. So what's left? Tear down the Civic Auditorium and Legion Pool? I'm sure. There's no other choice. I mean we are getting a water park right?
  14. Mania...CH has Division I qualities in my view. But each year there are many athletes that not only did not get DI looks but maybe not even DII. And then are relegated to NAIA. Mike Crowder is well versed in the fine art of high school football player marketing. Of course it doesn't hurt that his sons are 4.0 geniuses. We all know that Hall was playing the wrong position. I hope things come his way in the next few weeks. I just don't see in the past few years that DB has any special voodoo that other places don't in regard to player marketing.
  15. The Lost State of Frankland and how it was originally and when they became territories. Tennessee became a state in 1796. 1. Washington (Originally a North Carolina County) 2. Sullivan (Originally a North Carolina County) 3. Greene (Included Cocke County) (Originally a North Carolina County) 4. Spencer (Became Hawkins County) 5. Wayne (Became Carter and Johnson County) 6. Caswell (Included Jefferson and Hamblen County) 7. Sevier 8. Blount 1. Washington - 1777 2. Sullivan - 1779 3. Greene - 1783 4. Hawkins (Spencer County) - 1786 5. Jefferson - 1792 6. Sevier - 1794 7. Blount - 1795 8. Carter - 1796 9. Cocke - 1797 10. Johnson - 1836 11. Hamblen - 1870 12. Unicoi - 1875 This is practically NET with a couple of exceptions.
  16. TSSAA will never implicate their own. Never...never admit mistake. It actually gives the Tresevant admin an argument to the TSSAA. They could argue that if in fact they deserved this punishment then why did the officials let it continue. It will never go that far but in a court of law. The officials would be made to seem as much a part of the problem for not controling it as did the Tresevant gang for enacting it. Of course it could be said that the officials wanted to let this get out of hand to prove to everyone the issues with the Tresevant organization. The common understanding is that this is common fare for Tresevant. This mentality prevales there and other programs have similar tales to tell of having had to play them and endure their outlaw behavior. Could be that the officials knew it would have to go this far in order to have TSSAA levy the law against Tresevant and make an example of them. A pretty dangerous concept if you will. Especially with the blownout tires. I guess the flip side is to imagine the level of crime that would have taken place had the officials taken the game in hand and ended it as they should have in regard to the potential danger of injury that only by fortune did not occur. In addition, these officials obviously knew the potential of retribution that could have been "aimed" at them personally if in fact they had done their job and ended the game. We can only imagine the level of criminal activity that could have occured in this scenario. I guess all is well that ends well. My question is, do you think the ruling was strict enough? I think not.
  17. Oh OK...so you smacked us around did you? That's allright 'cause we are going to get back to our tradition of tanning that hide this year.
  18. Gate City, North Carolina, and 'Betsy correct Crawdad?
  19. Jack...tis' better to give than to receive. You ever give blood? I could use some Plasma. Maybe you could give me a ride to Best Buy tomorrow. I heard they had a deal on Plasma. You could use your gift card to give to the Plasma bank and I could get hooked up. Now that we're singing Kum bah yah and all.
  20. I remember when celebration was legal. I was young. But I thought it was the shiz. It got me pumped. You think they had the presence of mind back then when the rule changed to know that it would get bad and out of hand. To be honest...I miss some of that stuff. But yes, I know that without hard rules someone will take it to a new level of decadence. Some people just have no boundaries. So I guess Jack is correct in that they will have to make a hard rule because it is wrong to let the officials have jurisdiction over the severity and validity of a celebration call. But Batman, what is over the top for us could be common place for others. i.e. Tresevant. I know, I know...we all know right from wrong and when enough is enough. And yes, my son was taught from a very early age just as yours at home and in the studio the finer points of the art of the Eastern world. And his training continues today. I mean look at CS. He is a model of what we expect our young men to posess. You know and I know that regardless of outside training those things are taught in the home. So yes, it is a direct relation of the home experience. But then you must see the home. Our children grew up learning a dicipline that has no peer. But think of the inner-city kids and what they are subjected to. Most likely many of them must break the law to feed themselves. Doesn't make any of this stuff we are talking about OK but let's face it...not all children have the love, security, and empowerment that our children enjoyed. Could be why the inner-city kids are driven for success...even if it is disrespectful because they are so ecstatic to have risen above what they came from. No, it is no justification. But I don't think we will revert to the mentality of days gone by. I can see that this sport will at some point become to much of a liability for the school system to santion it. Tresevant is a perfect example of what will cause it's demise. Most coaching is based on the philosophy of dicipline and sacrifice and as long as that continues then we are headed in the right direction. As far as Dooley is concerned...I haven't studied him enough to know if he has what it takes to instill those life changing values. Because in the end, that is what success is based on.
  21. But Batman, Miami was the baddest of the bad boys clubs...they just didn't have Marcus Vick,
  22. I like it how Jack votes me out of the club but allows me to come to the back door and get a burger....but I still have to eat it outside. There has only been one post of mine that Jack praised. But you got to go back quite a ways to read it. Otherwise, he is always going to be my stick in the mud. Batman...you are right about the dicipline. It must be done from day one. Stacy Carter built South upon that very premise. But at Science Hill...well let's just say he might be backing up a bit. It's OK to sacrifice the first season to principle...but not the second one. But Batman, it was time for Fulmer to go. Just like it's time for Clark to go. Just like when it was time for Majors to go. And Jack...you are right. We were left for dead after we got Kiffined. Picking up those pieces was a monumental task that goes on today. Is that enough excuse for the so-called lack of dicipline? No. But it is good enough excuse for most everything else. Is there a lack of dicipline? Well, maybe a little bit. I mean getting back to the spit shine polish of Peerless Price and Peyton Manning might just take a bit. But we will get there. And yes, I bit on Kiffin's BS. Because I really didn't think it was BS. OK...hook, line, and sinker! But, I don't think I was the only one. To be honest...he should have stayed. We would have been National Champions. I think he knows he should have stayed. But he left. Would I run over him on I81? You betcha'...
  23. My thoughts on transfering and the talk of transfering. I can speak on this subject because my son was enroute to another school once upon a time. But in the end he decided he did not want to abandon his lifelong friends. And of course Carter planted a seed in him in his 8th grade year. But during his Frosh year I decided he was out. He pleaded to stay even though he was excited about the place he might have gone. I allowed his decision to stand. The point? IF...if they are to transfer it should be done in the 7th and no later than the 8th grade year. Waiting until they enter high school is a disaster waiting to happen. This IMOP. Yes there are success stories. But there are many more stories of broken dreams. If your child is Division I and NFL material then your decision should have been made long ago. And we can count on one hand the players who have gone DI in our area lately. So if you must change horses in the middle of the stream then make sure you go from a pony to an Arabian Stallion instead of from a pony to another pony. And as far as the South transfers....I have heard the parent talk in first person. Well maybe covertly...but unintentionally so. And I will believe it when I see it. But that aside, I wish the players and the parents in question the best. And I hope they get the experience they are searching for. Because all these young children deserve the best we can give them.
  24. Batman, I liked your offense this season. But I don't think it utilized your skill completely. Yes, Seabolt was a great option QB. It was his forte'. But I truly believe the Spread would have been more to your advantage. Maryville runs two...sometimes three offenses. The game has gotten complicated. And I think diversity is the order of the time. Canon and Steele were not utilized on offense. And to be honest, neither were Swafford and CS. Let's face it...that skill group was a load to have all in one year. The Spread has to have a TE and you had one in Clark. Of course a spread coach would have moved Cory Hall to TE but that is another story. Blackman had one guy...Bearden had one guy. DB had 5. And the O line to boot. Yes, D was suspect at times but at others was superb. No kicking game hurts but IMOP you had the goods. Jack says 2011 will be better...I just don't see it. Everyone knows Seabolt should have been the QB in '09. Those kinds of problems didn't plague DB in '10. Will they in '11?
