  1. I have no problem mentioning names as long as it's respectful of the kid. I think the posts I've read on here are by-and-large complimentary of players when they are mentioned by name.
  2. Looking at common opponents, Station Camp and Portland both defeated Northwest handily. The Bison are well-coached and well-prepared. Still, my gut tells me that I don't think this will be another one of these 48-7 wins for Station Camp, but they should beat Portland. The schedule gets a lot tougher for the Bison from here on out.
  3. No one is saying or has said fans can't cheer. The Pride of the Southland Band plays during timeouts and stopages, not during game action.
  4. Speaking of bad sportsmanship. Thanks for the illustration.
  5. Instead of all the fans trying to find out what they can "get away with" or how far they can bend the rules at games, they should try thinking of how they can best show sportsmanship and put the attention where it is supposed to be: the competition on the field. Fans like to dance all around the line that they can't cross without "technically" crossing it when they shouldn't even be getting near it out of respect for your opponent and their fans.
  6. The band playing while the opponent is trying to run a play, whether it bothers them or not, is bad sportsmanship. Am I even in the South? I thought we had that thing called "common courtesy"? I do not, for the life of me, understand how people are actually arguing that this is not bad sportsmanship. I am pretty sure a musical instrument is the definition of AN ARTIFICIAL NOISE MAKER. Those are not to be used at games to distract the teams. The band has a role at football games, and I didn't know crowd noise was one of its new functions. Hey, if so, let's do it right and hire out the local garage bands to come play in the end zone when the other team's on offense! No, let's not. Let's keep with tradition for once and use some common sense and...maybe some sportsmanship (gasp!). I am surprised at some of these things I've read on this topic. sportsmanship- 1. fairness in following the rules of the game. 2. Conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing. The guys who wrote the definition were probably a babies too.
  7. I see that Unapproved Website has Smith's time at 4.38 from his Nike Camp workout, and Scout.com has him at 4.45. If he runs a 4.38 at 6'2" 201 in high school...I'd check his pee too. Apart from that, there are a lot of variables in timing 40's: weather, track, wind, human error, etc. You can even read NFL scouts debating the 40 times when players "ran on a fast track" or "slow track" quite a bit. One guy may run a 4.50 on a track in good conditions, and a 4.65, or worse, on the grass on a football field in damp conditions. That's the difference in being a 1st rounder and a 4th rounder many times, so about the only scouts I somewhat trust on times are the NFL scouts. The difference in one-tenth of a second is about 3 feet of distance between runners in a 40 yard distance, so it needs to be pretty accurate and I doubt most coaches are that accurate. If they are late on the stopwatch just one-tenth of a second, I'm sure Harrison Smith can still fly, but I'm kind of like Big Country on this when looking at the big picture: I'm pessimistic about 40 times. Guys who run 4.5 40's in high school are an extremely small percentage of players (I'd say less than 1% of all players). Guys who run sub-4.40 are about that rare IN THE NFL. When you start talking sub-4.5, IT IS VERY HARD TO BELIEVE, because then you're talking about a small percentage within a small percentage. No doubt these guys are fast, but 40 times are over-hyped and not extremely accurate.
  8. COACH, he had a wrap around his left calf and on his throwing arm against Pearl Cohn. He strained his throwing arm a couple weeks ago, but not sure how bad either of these injuries are. He was limping noticeably against Cheatham late in the game, and had a limp after a few plays at Pearl Cohn.
  9. He's definitely fast, but Golden Tate was carrying a football and the other guy wasn't. You usually run a step faster without a football under your arm. No doubt the DB is a blazing fast kid, but the most impressive thing about that video was how fast Tate hit the hole and was G-O-N-E.
  10. Good question, I'd also like to know. I "believe" there is a rule against bands playing during game action, but I do not believe most TSSAA refs even try to enforce the rule, when they should. For example: The Pearl Cohn band is fun to watch, but they played SEVERAL times while Sycamore was on offense running plays last night. That shouldn't fly. Personally I think it's very poor sportsmanship on the part of the band director, and refs should stop play and give warnings. If they do it again...BAM!...15 yard unsportsman-like penalty. That will stop it. Also, the players do notice those things on the field if it gets loud enough. Players are not superhuman, and if the bands are loud- they will notice, believe me. If D-I players have a hard time dealing with noise during the game then you can bet your bottom dollar that high school kids, who aren't as used to noise, do even more.
  11. I don't think Page is better than people think. I believe Marshall County had expectations put on them that were overblown. They are simply not that good of a team and it is showing the last 2 weeks.
  12. Even if Dekalb County didn't make a single turnover they wouldn't beat this Station Camp team. Come on, they are just a good team! Good teams FORCE those turnovers. Congrats to Station Camp. A note for you Station Camp fans: I watched Pearl Cohn last night against Sycamore, and the Bison definitely look like a better team than the Firebirds from what I saw on the field. Sycamore was up 21-0 and absolutely gave the game away to Pearl in the second half. This Bison team could very well run the table from what I've seen so far. Greenbrier will be the team to worry about for Station Camp.
  13. I don't think Golden Tate is getting run down by anyone from behind in this state.
  14. I'm going to the game tonight, but I don't know how well the War Eagles are going to match up with the athletes and size the Firebirds are throwing at them. I look for Sycamore to try to slow it down and use that run game to control the tempo in this one. Hopefully Austin Lohin has healed up a bit from the Cheatham game, because he will have to be big tonight for Sycamore to pull this one off.
  15. You got it. Sorry about that. It was Bell.
  16. I am pretty sure Lipscomb got beat by Goodpasture in their first game...a 2A team. I know Lipscomb is a solid team, but come on now. I also don't believe Lipscomb will beat Cheatham by 4 TD.
  17. I would say Golden Tate is your best talent in the state and will draw national attention. Still, I saw Chris Donald play for Huntingdon the year they had Terrance Edwards as Mr. Football and won the title against David Lipscomb. That team was unstoppable offensively and could have won the 4A or maybe the 5A title that year. Donald was a great player even as a freshman. He was 6'1" 195 fullback then, and I couldn't believe it when I looked on the roster and saw he was a freshman! I thought back then he would be a big-time prospect. By the way, that Huntingdon state title team had Terrance Edwards, Boo Weathers, and Chris Donald all in the same backfield, and that was by far the best group of backs I have ever seen in a high school backfield at the same time.
  18. I'm not quite sure what you wanted 63, but I'll try to help. Now I confess, I can get pretty "out there" and I have rambled a bit in writing before, so if you need me to summarize those 5 sentences I guess I can. Here's the summarized version: Lipscomb "should" win this game. Cheatham's MANY costly turnovers lost the games last year. Cheatham graduated a lot of good players from that team. Cheatham plays hard. Lipscomb has more talent than Cheatham. See Spot run. Is that any better? Glad I could help.
  19. I'd it doesn't get bigger than MBA vs BA and Alcoa vs Maryville in the state of Tennessee. 14 state titles between the first, 16 between the second.
  20. I agree with the previous post. There cannot be a more improved team in the state than the Station Camp Bison. They are 4-0, coming off a 1-9 season, and have not only beat teams-they have destroyed teams. They've only had one close game so far and that was a 28-24 win on the road against a 3-1 Sycamore team, and they were up 21-7 at one point in that one before Sycamore made a valiant comeback. If all things stay the same, they should be 6-0 going into a huge test against Greenbrier at the end of the month. They have a very hard schedule the last 4 games, but they could easily be an 8 win team when all is said and done.
  21. OBVIOUSLY, Lipscomb should beat Cheatham County this year by at least a couple of TD's. Last year Lipscomb's scores looked a bit more impressive than they looked on the field against Cheatham because the Cubs turned the ball over 8 times in those 2 games, and each one seemed to kill a scoring drive. Most of the impact players from that Cheatham Co. team are gone. This will be a tough game for the Cubs to say the least, but they always play hard-nosed football. Cheatham can match physical play with anyone, but the disparity in the talent is what they are going to have trouble with in this game.
  22. I was at the Sycamore/Cheatham County game and the bands did it several times there too, but I wasn't counting it up. I agree, they have plenty of time to play during stoppages, timeouts, and the 15-20 minutes at halftime. Refs need to start flagging that stuff because it takes away from the game.
  23. Cowbells, cowbells, cowbells!!! Aren't these torture devices supposed to be banned by TSSAA at games anyway...or at least by the Geneva Convention? There is not one good reason to shake a cowbell at a ballgame, or in public...E-V-E-R! They are made for cows, little kid's tricycles on occasion, and for local villiage idiots to let townspeople know where they are in case they wander out too far from the town square at night. Someone might as well bring a chalk board and scratch on it after every play as far as I and many others are concerned. Oh, and "Air Horn Guy" can feel free to stay at home with "Captain Cowbell" before you guys make some guy fall over dead with a heart attack, or rutpture the eardrums of children in the stands surrounding you. It's inconsiderate and flat out retarded. Come on, Miss State fans do it...so it's obviously NOT cool.
  24. Although CA came up short, I think everyone can see that this program is building and improving quickly. The main hindrance to their success is that they just don't have the depth yet. This program is still a work in progress. Give these guys another year or two and they are going to be a play-off team again. They have plenty of families to draw from in Clarksville that will pass up one of the big public schools there to go where they will get the education and also get their kid a better chance to play. We'll wait and see if it happens. Remember, CA was a Clinic Bowl team in 1997 before idiotically disbanning the football program when headmaster Johnny Miller retired.
  25. Looks like the Bison got a good night's work in the FIRST HALF before bringing in the second string. 40-0 at half? Station Camp should be 6-0 going into the Greenbrier game, but then the going gets TOUGH. Their last 4 games are Greenbrier, Macon Co., White House, and then Pearl Cohn. We'll see how good these guys really are in those games. This district 4-3A is shaping up to be a very strong one.
