The West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex, a 17-field youth baseball, softball, and adult softball complex will open August 25. The BancorpSouth Classic is a USSSA state qualifier for ages 9-14. Other fall tournaments are slated for Sept 8-10 and Sept 22-24.

The complex features five 200-foot fields. Three are skinned infields and can be utilized for baseball or softball.

The five 250-foot fields are baseball only. While three of the 300-foot fields are baseball only, the other four 300-foot fields are skinned and can be used for both baseball and adult softball.

The complex is situated adjacent to Interstate 40 and is the anchor for a new 50+ acre retail complex. Pringles Park, home of the West TN Diamond Jaxx is also part of the development.

This Fall's tournaments will be considered somewhat of a "soft opening" and will be limited to six teams per age group. The full 2007 schedule will be released in November and will be set up to allow 12-14 teams per age group.

Local leagues in Jackson will utilize the park during the week.

Folks, this is one of the finest parks in the State, if not the entire country. Played there this past fall (and while the park was not yet complete) the fields were great, officials did a good job.

We'll be back this spring and summer. If you can make this trip, plan on at least one in this fine new facility.

    • So much talk about an investigation about student record manipulation and then everything has went silent. Has anyone heard how the investigation is going?
    • Basically what you're saying is schools can basically bully students around and get away with it because they are protected. I agree to a certain extent but when schools decisions to keep knuckleheads on staff starts costing kids careers and a college education there is a problem. Our school system last week had a teacher supposedly push a kid and the parents went to the law and the teacher is suspended. So I wouldn't say that they can just do what they want without liability. This case don't pass the smell test because the coach had already been fired before and she got fired after a year on the job. Sounds like the student was right in this case on the outside looking in because the coach gets fired after one year. How many coaches get fired after one year?? Not many.
    • Problem with DB football goes beyond coaching. Like Waco said. Thr band is the main focus of their community and school. They have the resources to be a championship level team. Guarantee Ballard or Witten could have them nationally relevant at some point but everyone down to peewee would have to buy in and at DB we all know that would never happen.
    • I know the RB from OR he’s fast and has good hands. Is good on special teams also. Didn’t want to play defense over to the Ridge.
