District 11 AAA Tournament at Franklin

The District 11 AAA Tournament starts today (Tues., Oct 10) with the "play-in" match of #8 Hickman Co. hosting #9 Hillwood at 3:30.

 

The full tournament starts Wed., Oct. 11 at Franklin. Here is the schedule:

 

5:00 - #1 Franklin vs winner of #8 Hickman Co./#9 Hillwood

5:00 - #2 Brentwood vs #7 Hillsboro

6:30 - #5 Ravenwood vs #4 Centennial

6:30 - #3 Independence vs #6 Overton

 

Thurs., Oct. 12 - Semi-Finals:

 

5:00 - Winner of Franklin/Hickman Co./Hillwood vs Winner of Ravenwood/Centennial

5:00 - Winner of Brentwood/Hillsboro vs Winner of Independence/Overton

 

6:30 - Championship

Tuesday's Results:

 

Hickman Co. def. Hillwood 3-0 advances to face #1 seed Franklin in the Quarter-Finals tonight (Wed., Oct 11) at 5 PM.

 

Tonight will also be Senior Night for Franklin as the match with Hillsboro on Mon. was cancelled. The Franklin Seniors are: Courtney Barnes, Taylor Stice, and Kimmy Speciale. Please come out and show your support for these great players.

Wed. Quarter-Final Results:

 

Franklin def. Hickman Co. 3-0 (25-6, 25-11, 25-13)

Brentwood def. Hillsboro 3-0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-15)

Independence def. Overton 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-13)

Centennial def. Ravenwood 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-21, 25-16)

 

The higher seeds all advanced tonight with Franklin, Brentwood, and Independence winning easily. The Centennial/Ravenwood match was the closest as the Lady Raptors had a good following with several students there supporting the team, but the Lady Cougars prevailed after losing game 2.

 

Tonight's results set ups the semi-finals on Thursday with the following schedule:

 

5:00 - Franklin vs Centennial

5:00 - Brentwood vs Independence

 

6:30 or so - Championship

Not that it hasn't been said before but boy..... what a tough DISTRICT!

The semi-finals will be interesting as two teams will end their season. Independence will be without Liz Powell and Centennial will be without Annie Kelly, but can the remaining players play as teams to beat Brentwood and Franklin, respectively. Franklin will have the home court advantage and Brentwood looked determined as ever even as they warmed up last night in the quarter-final. My feeling is that it will be Franklin and Brentwood in the finals and advancing on to the regional tournament. Who will win the championship match? Brentwood - sorry Franklin supporters.
