Centennial VS. Ravenwood

As much as i hate to say it. Why cant Centennial win the big games. We have had the talent for the last 5 years and nothing to show for it at the State level. Last year losing in the first round and not even making it the other years. Any theories anyone?

 

Last night, it would have helped to have at least warmed up with some sort of organized intense warm up and have the coach there earlier making sure we were getting focused. But why do that, were Centennial right? the other team is going to just let us win. Right? That seemed to be our attitude and it isnt a suprise that we got beat by a more focused and determined team. It starts at the top. The players wouldnt be like that if they had the right leadership from the adults in charge of them. I would be interested in some other thoughts on Why Centennial loses the must games like the one they lost last night every single year. Granted we made state last year, but we had a super loaded team and lost in the first round. Again, losing a game we should have won. Why?

You nailed it soccerdawg! When you have the talent Centennial has had the past few years and not much to show for it, it really boils down to coaching. It would be interesting to see what that team could do with a coach of the same experience and caliber as Coach MacDonald (FRA), Coach Brown (BGA) or Coach Johnson (BA). No disrespect to the current Centennial coach, as I am sure she did the best she knows how, but from what I have heard she doesn't have an extensive soccer background. Just my opinion!

Don't get yourself too worked up soccerdawg. I've followed Centennial very closely the past 5 or 6 years. My opinion is, except for last year, Centennial teams have been very good(a top 5 to 10 team) but unfortunately they are in by far the toughest district in the state. I don't think over the past 5 or 6 years Centennial has been any better, or worse, than Brentwood or Franklin. While they have been a very good team, I believe you think just a little too highly of them. Last season Centennial probably had the best overall talent in the state. If you saw the 1st game in the state last year you probably know the reason they lost. The Oak Ridge coach even emailed the Centennial coach the following week to appologize for the horrific officiating. That plus a missed PK doomed the Cougars, but that is the nature of soccer. The best team doesn't always win. Ravenwood proved that last night! I saw the game and I feel certain that Ravenwood outworked Centennial. The players need to be blamed, not the adults. Noone should have to get them fired up for a game in which they have a chance to advance to the sectionals and state. Keep you spirits up! You should be proud of your schools soccer over the past few years. They have become one of the top 5 or 10 programs in the state. Hopefully they will keep it up.
