Congratulations to Joey from everyone over at David Lipscomb. He is very deserving of the award for both his play on the field and his contributions off the field as well. Three years of this award and two winners from the new Region 5-3A. Burton Elrod won the inaugural award in 2004 when the Mustangs were still in Class 2A.

I am glad Joey Beach got recognition for his off-the-field work, and for the tremedous season he put together for the Cubs. He had the best all-around performance of any player in the Mid-state in my opinion. 1000 yards receiving does not happen very often in Tennessee, so that is quite impressive. I'd say 1000 receiving yards is equivalent to 2500 rushing yards in high school. He did everything for Cheatham from kicking off, to being the leading punter in the Mid-state, to throwing TD passes, and he didn't just fill those positions, he did it all very well. I think if the Cubs would have been an 8-9 win team he would have also been a Mr. Football finalist, so I'm happy for him to get this scolarship and recognition for being the best all-around student/athlete.
