  1. Vandy3 is actually an assistant coach in West TN this year so Vandy1 is spending a lot of time on the road. He has been able to make a few DL games but has kept I-40 heated up.
  2. The Firebirds have some star players for sure guys. Here are a few to keep an eye on: #11 (QB): Jawaun Wilson #6 & #27 (RB): DeAnthony Hall & Montrieze Lillard #2 & #23 (WR): Nick Hill & David Sanders #8 (TE): Michael Slifka #50 (OL): Levi Wilson #36 & #53 (DL): Darrell Fitzgerald & Andre Hyde #27, #26 & #28 (LB): Montrieze Lillard, Jamie Amos & Nicholas Dance #1 & #3 (DB): Richard Taylor & Jestin Williams This is a great list. Howdoitknow, being the guru that you are and we appreciate all of your knowledge, do you know how many of these players actually go to MLK and use the co-op program to play football at PC since MLK does not have a team? I know for a fact that both leading WR go to MLK in Sanders and Hill. Are there others? Is MLK the only school that feeds into PC for football?
  3. Howdoitknow . . . What goes into the figuring of WC getting the automatic #1 with a win over Maplewood. All teams would be 2-1 in the Class 4A portion of the district. Moreover, if both WC and DL run the table in the district, each of them would match the one loss record overall with Maplewood. Is overall record the next tiebreaker. Just curious as there seems to be many scenarios with four weeks to go. Thanks for providing more info.
  4. Does anyone have the schedule for this weekend's 17U Central Sub-state? I assume it is at Goodpasture as in the past and it should be another good one. Any info would be appreciated.
  5. Father Ryan won 67-59 in overtime. The Irish led for most of the game including 50-42 with just over 3 minutes to play. MBA stormed back behind Spencer Wise including his basket to tie the game with 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation. Colbert had already fouled out for MBA and Tyler Paslick took a nasty spill less than 30 seconds into the third quarter. To his credit he tried to return but was in obvious pain. When Wise fouled out in the OT, MBA's offensive threats were limited and Father Ryan could key defensively on Mobley and Seitz. A super game and atmosphere. Congrats to MBA in a good season and good luck to the Irish at State.
  6. Lipscomb at Ezell-Harding postponed until after the new year.
  7. I am sure that Mobley, Paslick, Lassing and the rest of the current varsity appreciate you putting stock in MBA's future instead of what is the present. Seriously, expecting a freshman line-up to start this year? Don't get me wrong, sounds like a terrific group for Anglin and McMahon to look forward to, but remember they are still young. Congrats on a great season last year and best of luck this season but let's not write off the current team just yet. They are solid players both on and off the court.
  8. Greenbrier (1-0) travels to David Lipscomb (0-0) for a Week One match-up. It is another game in the long-standing early season traditional battle between these two 3A schools. Bobcat fans and Mustang fans alike need to come early and join in on the Tailgate Celebration that begins at 5:00. Beat the traffic and secure your parking place early. BBQ, burgers, sides, dessert and drinks as well as a great bluegrass band to get things started. The tailgate will be just inside the stadium to the right on the baseball outfield. Come early, bring your lawnchairs and blankets and support your team! Adults $8 and children 11 and under are $4.
  9. Not that it really matters at this point, but the varsity four quarters ended 14-13 in favor of WH and the JV play ended 12 -2 in favor of DL (no pats) with the safety coming on the first play. In the varsity match-up, DL's #1 kicker did not kick pats as they are looking at who all is behind Lehning. Hats off to both schools as it was an electric atmosphere for a pre-season scrimmage. Both staffs respect each other as a great hitting contest at this time of year only makes both teams better come the regular season. I expect to see both teams go deep into the playoffs this season.
  10. Not Coach, but to answer your questions, the Rage went 0-3 in Pool Play as they were in a very tough bracket. They lost to Boo Williams VA Prep 72-39, LouWill the Elite 68-60 and then Diamond State Titans 64-60. The Rage defeated the NYC Jags in the opening round of the Iron Bracket tonight 40-35 and played a late game against Gulf Coast Stars in the Round of 16.
  11. Congratulations to the Rage. A great team of great players on and off the playing floor. Are the sophomores that joined them this year seeing any playing time? The Rage has really beefed up its schedule this season and having tremendous success. Keep up the great work in representing Franklin and Middle TN.
  12. Driven is right. Also heard that the Tigers 16s won the Eastern tournament with the East TN Magic finishing 2nd. Tennessee Trailblazers beat the Chattanooga Warriors for third and could get a state berth due to there only being three substate sites this year. It all comes down to the numbers. I also heard that the Ballerz West beat the Future Stars in Central. Is that right? What about third place there? Any news as they could get a third team in too. While on the subject, any word out of Memphis' 16 substate earlier this month?
  13. Coach T scoreboard shows CPA beating PC 31-27. Is that right? Wouldn't you consider that an upset especially with the game at PC? David Lipscomb came from behind to beat CPA before Christmas in the 4th quarter but I am surprised that the bigger inside game for PC couldn't defeat the smaller Lady Lions. CPA has a great motivator and interim coach in their AD Mike Ellson this season so he must have pulled off another basketball feat with a smaller team. Just lilke he did in the 80's and 90's with his boys teams. He takes no credit . . . Soli Deo Gloria.
  14. If you transfer within the same county and the student athlete is 9th grade or beyond and you want to play immediately, you must apply for a hardship case with the TSSAA and have it approved. Hardship cases can be based on different aspects and for multiple reasons. Some are legit and some are definitely fabricated and slanted for the betterment of the new school.
  15. First day results: Independence 64 Haywood 50 Union City 67 Mt. Juliet 62 Sycamore 61 Riverdale 54 Livingston Acad. 70 Brentwood Acad. 67 (Clint West hits a 3 with just over 2 seconds remaining) Friday's semifinal and consolation round schedule: 4:00 - Brentwood Academy vs. Haywood 5:30 - Riverdale vs. Mt. Juliet 7:00 - Sycamore vs. Union City 8:30 - Livingston Academy vs. Independence All games at Lipscomb University's Allen Arena.
  16. Must be the Mt. Juliet girls as the boys are at the Battle For The State.
  17. The tournament starts tomorrow (Thursday) with all of the action taking place at Lipscomb University's Allen Arena. Here is the opening day schedule: 4:00 - Haywood County vs. Independence 5:30 - Union City vs. Mt. Juliet 7:00 - Riverdale vs. Sycamore 8:30 - Brentwood Academy vs. Livingston Academy The second day times are the same with consolation bracket games at 4 and 5:30 and semifinal action at 7 and 8:30. On Saturday, the 7th place game is at 11:00 - 5th place game is at 12:30 - 3rd place game is at 2:00 and the championship game is slated for 3:30. The tournament is also offering 2 scholarships as a part of the events. The John E. Mayfield Honorary Scholarship will be presented to 2 senior players desiring to continue their education beyond high school from nominations submitted by the coaches. The selection committee will make the presentations along with Mr. Mayfield on Friday night between the semifinal games with each scholarship representing $500. Great tournament and great action. Don't miss this one!
  18. David Lipscomb defeated MBA tonight 57-40. The Big Red led 2-0 and then DL went on a 9-0 run to take the lead and never trailed again. Good game by two good teams.
  19. Centennial controlled the game early and led by 1 at the half. Ensworth came out in the 2nd half and put pressure on the Cougars all over the floor. Centennial went away from feeding the ball inside to Kelly in the 3rd and started to fall behind. Ensworth hit several big threes and was very consistent from behind the arc all night. CHS missed FTs down the stretch and enabled Ensworth to pull away. Great game - small crowd that lacked a typical HS atmosphere to two good teams. Both will do well in respective districts and regions this year.
  20. I believe that NACA started last season after some of the players broke away from Nashville Central Christian. Both NCC and NACA are made up primarily of home school players. NCC has been coached by former Vanderbilt player Mark Elliott and has been around for some time. NACA is a new team as of last year as some wanted more exposure than they were getting at NCC.
  21. Prayers and genuine thoughts go out to both families, the GB football team, school and community. Your friends at David Lipscomb are sincerely thinking about you during this time. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help support and lift you all up in the days ahead.
  22. Congratulations to Joey from everyone over at David Lipscomb. He is very deserving of the award for both his play on the field and his contributions off the field as well. Three years of this award and two winners from the new Region 5-3A. Burton Elrod won the inaugural award in 2004 when the Mustangs were still in Class 2A.
  23. From I-65, take the Harding Place exit (#78). At the top of the exit ramp at the light, turn left onto Harding Place and cross over the interstate. You will see Franklin Road Academy on the hill to your left. Go the the next stoplight which is Franklin Road and veer to the right. You will go approximately two miles going through one stop light. Turn left onto Caldwell Lane (Glen Leven church is on the right hand side of Franklin Road when you make the turn). If you get to I-440 and Woodmont Blvd. you have gone to far. On Caldwell, go approximately 1 - 1.5 miles. At the 2nd 4-way stop you will see the stadium on your left just ahead. Parking entrance is on down Caldwell behind the scoreboard. Hope this helps. Safe travels and best of luck to both teams!
  24. Hats off to the folks at Cheatham County and a huge thank you to their game day staff for showing superb hospitality tonight to all of the Lipscomb folks. A class act and an enjoyable night of not only discussing the game on the field, but other games around the mid-state. To the radio crew and press box staff, thanks for all you did to make us so welcome in your "house." CCCHS also put on a very nice Homecoming Celebration with floats, a parade, dinner and all of the pagentry possible. The football Cubs are young, but definitely fun to watch. The offensive bag of plays is full and utilized very well. They will win more games this season and should still make a run at the playoffs. To say Joey Beach is versatile is an understatement. He runs, he catches, he passes, he punts, and he also is the place kicker. He and Christmas (qb) work well together. Best of luck throughout the remainder of the season!
