Tops In 1A

1. Clarkrange (20-2) – The Lady Buffaloes made a strong claim to being the best team in Class A with a 15 point win over Monterey and a 10 point win over previously ranked top team Red Boiling Springs. Freshman Kelli Reed has been absolutely phenomenal this season as she has yet to show any signs of being an actual freshman. This week, she’ll look to help lead her team to two more victories in two more tough games as they travel to Jackson County on Tuesday before having to travel to Red Boiling Springs on Friday to face a Lady Bulldogs team who has revenge on their minds.

2. Gleason (20-0) – The Lady Bulldogs grabbed two more District 14A wins this past week with an 18 point victory over Trenton Peabody and a tough 3 point victory at Greenfield. Gleason can seal the District 14A Regular Season Championship with two wins this week. However, this will not be as easy as it seems as they must travel on the road on Tuesday to play a Bradford squad who has won 6 of their last 7 games before heading to Union City on Friday to face DeBrisha Robinson and a very athletic Lady Golden Tornadoes group.

3. Red Boiling Springs (22-2) – The Lady Bulldogs started the week with a big 14 point win over Region 4A opponent Westmoreland and a 54 point rout of District 7A cellar-dweller Hermitage Springs. RBS then culminated their recent four game road stint with a game against their biggest foe in 7A in Clarkrange. Despite a valiant performance by Senior Kelly Rich, the Lady Bulldogs came up a little in the fourth quarter against Lamar Rogers and his girls as RBS suffered their first loss of the year to a team in Tennessee, losing by 10. Coach White will get his girls ready this week for a Region 4A home game against Watertown on Tuesday before preparing to host Clarkrange on Friday in a game that RBS has to win if they want to keep their District 7A Regular Season Championship dreams alive.

4. Trinity Christian Academy (18-2) – The Lady Lions continued to roll this week as they took down Decatur County Riverside by 14 before beating Adamsville by 32. TCA will look to reach the twenty win plateau this week with District 15A home games against Scotts Hill on Tuesday and Madison Academic Magnet on Friday.

5. Collinwood (15-3) – The Trojanettes reaffirmed their place among the state’s elite as they took down rival Wayne County by 12 before embarrassing Perry County by 44. Collinwood continues to be one of the most dominating rebounding and defensive teams in District 12A despite having no starter over 5’8”. Their commitment to these two aspects of the game will be instrumental in their two District 12A games this week as they travel to Hampshire on Tuesday for an easy win before heading to Summertown for another highly anticipated match-up on Friday; where if the Trojanettes come away with the victory, they will have sewn up the District 12A Regular Season Championship.

6. Richland (22-2) – The Lady Raiders put themselves in great position to take the District 11A Regular Season Championship with a 14 point win over Santa Fe. Richland will have two games this week as they travel to Cornersville on Tuesday (who just recently pulled an upset over Moore County) before hosting a Moore County team on Friday whose off-the-court drama has hindered them most of the season.

7. Summertown (17-3) – The Lady Eagles won all three of their games this week very easily as they defeated Zion Christian Academy by 46, Mt. Pleasant by 53, and Columbia Academy by 23. Summertown continues to use their “in your face” defense and fast-paced offense to physically and mentally wear down their opponents. S-Town will continue with that strategy this week as they host Frank Hughes in an easy game on Tuesday before welcoming Collinwood on Friday in a clash between the titans of District 12A.

8. Forrest (15-6) – The Lady Rockets extended their post-Christmas winning streak to seven games this week with a 28 point win over Community and a 41 point victory over F.C. Boyd, Sr. Christian. This week brings two more District 9A games for the girls from Chapel Hill as they host Cascade on Tuesday before heading to Van Buren County on Friday.

9. Wayne County (17-5) – The Lady Cats entered the week looking to take down their county rival Collinwood, but fell by 14 points. They then finished their week with a road trip to Zion Christian Academy where they took down the Lady Eagles by 20. Wayne County will have no trouble this week as they host winless Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday before traveling to Hampshire on Friday.

10. Greenfield (15-4) – The Lady Yellowjackets had extended their recent winning streak to 11 straight games with a hard earned 1 point victory over Lake County early in the week, but Gleason snapped that streak in half as the Greenfield girls fell by 3 to the undefeated Lady Bulldogs. Regardless of the loss to Gleason, the Lady Yellowjackets appear to be heading in the right direction and it looks as though they are getting things in place to make a strong run throughout their remaining District 14A schedule. Up this week for these girls will be two road games beginning with Humboldt on Tuesday and ending with Bradford on Friday.

Best of the Rest: Oliver Springs (11), Lake County (12), Greenback (13), Cloudland (14), Santa Fe (T-15), Oneida (T-15)

Quote by ptguard12 from the top 20 starting the new year: "I fully expect Oliver Springs to work their way towards the top. I am waiting on Kayla Christopher to start playing, night in and night out, like the star I have seen play on the AAU circuit."

Not saying there is anything wrong with your top 10 but OS had a 14 point loss to Webb last week on Tuesday and a 20 point win over AAA team, Campbell County, on Thursday night. The record OS has is kinda discouraging but OS is in the top 10 with schedule rank. Just seems no one respects this OS team, this year or last year, do you think they deserve anymore respect?

    • They did have a great year last year by RBS standards. I was very happy to see them get that win against Jo Byrns
    • Fillies lost to South Gibson by 16. Beat Henry Co by 6 and Creekwood by 5. Some young players stepping up. We've got a strong freshmen class that seems ready to contribute. As far as the middle school Fillies they're more than 10 deep in quality players. Unbelievable talent at that level for a 2a school!

Jasper’s best coach in decades was Pruitt, a Legend below the border is based on success and consistency. Coach Starkey should do good, he was taught by Vic. Leastways, he got away from that Puke Purple! Figure coaching all that Puke Purple would surely cause nausea sometimes on Friday night. That should be applauded fer sure! LOPAO
