District Tournaments

Why not give a bye in District Tournaments to the higher seeded teams, which would allow the last place team to at least compete in the district tournament? Its not about whether or not a last place seeded team in the district would beat anyone, its about the Opportunity!

 

 

Didn't mean to come across as hateful... But if you gave the 1 seed a buy, youd have 2 vs. 5 and 3 vs. 4... Thats only 2 winners. What are you going to do? have the losers of those two games play for elimanation? That dosen't make a whole lot of sense... Anyway, everyone gets in the district tourny. If your seeded and playing in a tournament format, its the distict tourny

so if this is what TSSAA decides to do then just roll with it. This also puts more meaning in the season.

 

 

The T$$AA dosen't make up the brackets! The coaches do!!! And I agree with you completly about how the regular season shouldmean something.

In district 6AA no one gets a bye to the first round. I think that is the fairest way, but the #8 and #9 teams have to play a play-in-game to see who gets to the next round.

 

The play-in-game is part of the district tournament. In some districts the bottom teams can not compete with the top teams. This is a way for everyone to have a chance to make it through the tournament without just telling the bottom seed that they can not play. It is still true that the loser goes home and the winner plays on.

Well not all districts need it. A district with 4 or 8 teams could have even brackets.

I think 'byes' are an effort to cut down on games. I do not think they are fair. In some districts, there may be an obvious dominant team. In others, it really could cut out a team that has really improved since those two or three district losses early in the season. To me... that is the difference between district regular season champion vs. the district tournament champion teams that progress to state. After all, it is about the best time right now... vs. the team that was playing two months ago. If you cut out teams at this point, it sends the message that there is no sense in competing after a few early district losses. I've seen it happen many times...that team that could not click in December, has finally found their stride and are kicking tail in February. Let the tournaments (with all teams) determine who should move on. IMHO

Then how are you going to do a district with 6 or 7 teams??? ITS IMPOSSIBLE, unless you have a round robin tournament, which (1st) would take too long, and (2nd) the regular season is a round robin played twice, so why do it a third time?
