How to Calculate Punting Distance?

What is the official way to calculate the distance of a punt? Is it measured from the line of scrimmage or from the point of the punt? I believe the "NET" yardage takes into account the distance of the punt less the yardage returned, if any. Thanks.

a FEILD GOAL is from the spot of the kick and the punt is the line of scrimmage and you are correct on the net

So I'm assuming if you are consistantly punting the ball 45-50 yards in the air and the punt is caught with no return, you can expect the stats to reflect a 35-40 yard punt? Correct?

Assuming a 10-yard distance between the punter and long snapper, yes, although that probably will yield more blocked punt opportunities. I would venture to say the optimal distance between the punter and long snapper is 13-15 yards.
