Region 4 Tournament

Tonite, the Semi-Finals of Region 4 were played at Lebanon High School with District 7AAA Champion Lebanon High School winning over District 8AAA Lincoln County and District 7AAA runnerup Siegel winning over District 8 AAA Champion Coffee County. Both matches were 3-0 and were seen by almost a full crowd at the LHS gym. It is thought that this was possibly the largest VB crowd to see a match at Lebanon except possibly either the MT Juliet or Wilson County contests. As a note to the enthusiasm exhibited by the fans at Lebanon, this was a great crowd in a gym that is great for its history and tradition but it is not really suited for the VB that is currently being played by LHS for the past two years. Certainly the ceiling is rather low and balls caroomed many times off the ceiling sometimes making one think one of the panels might fall. Fans are allowed to sit on the entrance and exit stairs instead of in the stands making one think that if a fire occured, how will the fans up stairs get out quick enough. and the entrances out the end doors and thru the lobby are tight fits. This would make a great practice facility but again as good as both Girls and Boys basketball teams are doing and with a renewed enthusiasm of fans, it appears that Lebanon is quickly outgrowing this historic site. Only White County is close to the size of LHS but it is larger. The fan support of LHS teams from the girls side, seems to have grown dramatically and the need to improve the facilities to enable their teams to compete at the level they are now playing is needed very much.

The last match played was between the two 7AAA Champion and Runnerup. Lebanon High School and Siegel have played 3 great matches this year with Siegel winning two and Lebanon High School Beating them in the finals of the District. Before the matches tonite it was thought that if these two teams met again, it would be one of the best matches of the year for both of these teams finished strong to be in the regional finals. In typical Middle Tennessee fashion, this was a closely called match requiring very clean hits and almost perfect setting. Good luck to both teams in the substate. Oh yes, Siegel won in 3.

One other thing, the Siegel Coach was quoted in the paper that the LHS Coach was a very good coach. After finishing up the 4th season now watching the LHS girls play volleyball and the basketball team play under two coaches, the fans are extremely impressed with the coaches, the players, and most everything that has to do with your program but the main thing was the way your parent cheering section supported your team. Noise meant nothing to the way the game was played. It was 7AAA at its loudest. The gym was too small and the LHS students had no place to congregate and cheer except in the area the parents were and then they tried to mingle with the Siegel CS which did not work. Frustration occurred and those trying to settle the issue were not able to do so. Lebanon VB has gotten too large for a District and a Regional Tournament. You have the coach, the players and the support and you need just a little more. I was proud to be a part of 7AAA to see the effort LHS made in this Tourney.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
