(#1 East/Middle) Davidson Academy drills (#4 West) Tipton Rosemark 11-0 and 14-0 to advance

(#1 West) St. George's rolls over (#5 West) Rossville Christian 12-2 and 12-0 to move on.

(#2 West) FACS romp over (#3 East/Middle) Webb School of Bell Buckle 10-0 and 10-0.

(#3 West) SBEC cruises on the road 16-0 and 14-0 at (#2 East/Middle) St. Andrews-Sewanee to complete the 4th and final set of run-ruled games.

All 4 advance with 8 combined run-rule games. Only Rossville from the eliminated squads were able to score.

Don't know much about Davidson but all 3 West teams battled each other this year in some great games. Davidson's obviously got a fine team. There's potential for a very entertaining double elimination tournament with this group. Congrats to the eliminated teams on making it this far and best wishes to everybody left...especially the Lady Trojans!

First round of state:

Davidson Academy took a 5-0 win over the Lady Crusaders of First Assembly Christian School. Both teams were held to only 3 hits as Lady Bear winning pitcher Ainsley McCullough worked all 7 getting 7 Ks in the shutout. FACS pitcher Ali DiGirolamo held DA to only 3 hits but 5 errors behind her contributed to 4 of the 5 runs allowed being unearned. DA capitalized on the FACS mistakes and made some things happen on their own with DH Kristen Baird doubling to lead off the 3rd and later scoring. A hit by catcher Hannah Rust, one of her two hits on the day, and 3 errors in the bottom of the 6th allowed Davidson to plate 3 more runs and pull away from FACS for a comfortable final inning. Great job by the pitchers and DA's defense was sterling in the win.

SBEC picked up a 6-0 win over region champ St. George's...yet another hard fought game b/w these two and a bit of a surprise as the Lady Gryphons won both the regular season and region championship with some hard fought games. The story of this game was SBEC junior pitcher Morgan Mosby. The Lady Trojan ace gave up only 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 hit batsman in the game while her defense had but one error. Of course, when 18 of the 21 outs are recorded by strikeout the defense doesn't get much chance to screw up....likely the best pitching performance of the year by Mosby who's had some good ones.

Six different Lady Trojan scored runs with lf Leigh Ann Otten netting 2 hits, an RBI, and a run scored, and rf Caroline Talbot drove in 2 runs on a key single in the 6th to put the game away for SBEC. 2b Sara Carpenter had the first RBI of the game in the 3rd giving SBEC the only run they ended up needing.

St. George's will take on FACS in an elimination game and the winner of that will face the winner's bracket loser between Davidson Academy and Southern Baptist Educational Center.
