I can't see it in HS, but it can and does work for MS. In my reading it is permitted by the regs whether the school is a member school or not.

I totally agree with your first statement.

As far as your second statement, unless they have changed something this summer, you might see it that way, but unfortunately the people who run the TMSAA don't! (At least that is what they communicated to our athletic department).

MVM, I am again with you on all of your points, too! (man, this is starting to be a strange year!). I love the "school pride" and the rivalries. Yes, I know that there are club rivalries, but nothing like a Bearden Farragut, or CAK Catholic (ugh, just makes me shiver still thinking about it!) in club. You wont see people paint their faces or have huge banners in club.

Having said that, I again admit that I feel that club is the reason for the success of a lot of the programs. I am not a huge "fan" of club, just because I have seen some of what the hard core political club scene has done to some of my players, but there are some good programs, as well. Burn out is a big factor, and that can be found in almost any sport played year round.

Big G, I have tried once again to re-read the by-laws for the TMSAA. When looking at the exemptions as listed, it does appear I was mistaken, and with that it would appear that MS players cannot play club. Doesn't make much sense to me. I know that may daughter did both all through MS, like I said, CAK was the only school that I recall that possibly was a member school. Maybe the rules were different as well. I think it is unfortunate for the girls with the current rule.

PS. This is in the Knoxville area. The only member school listed in the Knoxville area now is Grace C.A.

Maybe I missed a thread or something. Has there been a rule inacted by TMSAA that says MS players cannot play club during the season? I don't think anyone is a member in Knoxville except the one Bean007 listed. I could be wrong but I don't know. Like I said earlier nearly every MS in Chattanooga area, south of Athens, had to give up the first part of club ball, August through mid-October, because they were not allowed to do both. They were members of TMSAA.

I believe the public schools in Chattanooga start their season the second half of Fall (Mid-October), which should allow some club tournaments in August and September....It was some of the private schools (and what I had heard rumored were no longer affected due to a change in the middle school rule-which has not been confirmed) that I thought may have had some issues with club/school rule, since some of them start first part of Fall (Correct me if I am mistaken, fellow Chattanoogans)

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
