Melrose at Brighton

Mark it down it will be a BIG and EASY win for Melrose and NOBODY puts a running clock on Melrose. I am a long time Henry County fan but you just showed how little you know about high school football. I would agree about Mr Football though.

If the two teams play, we will get in contact and bet some big money. Henry will run the clock on Melrose. Henry will run it and throw it at will. East qb ran for 175, what do you think Teague will do? I think Melrose makes so many mistakes, it gives Brighton a chance to win. Especially since Brighton may be getting some injured players back. Brighton is three to four touchdowns better at home. This game will be closer than the experts think.

Sled78,

Henry County obviously has a great team, but if you think that HC (or any other team, for that matter) is going to put a "running clock" on Melrose, then you should be convicted of Class-One Felony "I.J" -- Impaired Judgement!

I hope you are right but I doubt you are. Teague played against them last year and I dont have the figures but I dont recall him getting close to 175 yards. Keep your money and dont bet the way you are thinking unless you are very wealthy and can afford to lose a lot of money.

Because sled78 is off his rocker. I believe Melrose will DESTROY Brighton. I hope not but its what I think will happen. He brought Henry County into it. His comments show him to be ill informed about high school football.

I actually hope you are right but dont think for a minute it will happen. I WANT to be surprised!

I'm with you realgame! I too would love to see the Cards advance! I don't put much stock in their only loss of the season.......in the position they were put in that night, without their starting QB for the first time, in that environment......it was a tough night! Now.......that are playing the best 6-4 team in Tennessee......but, both teams have been a little inconsistent down the stretch! Let's see what you've got Redbirds!!

From what you have learned about Henry County please rate the chances of all of the Region 8 teams to beat the Patriots.

I'll rate these Region 8 teams, in order of best chance to worst:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Fairley - 40%

2) East -- 35%

3) Melrose -- 25%

4) Kingsbury -- 5%

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I give Fairley the best shot to defeat HC because Fairley has more effective offensive balance, speed & playmakers than East. Their defense is about even.

East has a very solid, blue collar-like team. Despite their earlier win over Fairley, they just don't have enough playmakers to stay with HC, IMO. The execute a whole lot better than Melrose, however. They just seem to find a way to get the job done.

Melrose simply does not execute consistently enough to defeat HC.

** Disclaimer: If Melrose falls behind, then their chance to win increases. Yes, INCREASE (to about 40 -45%, IMO)!

Melrose executes much better, when they're behind! It's as if they simply can't believe that they're losing--they can't accept that they're losing..... They suddenly play with more focus, passion & greater sense-of-urgency. It is then that they turn their QB loose, completely! He becomes more aggressive & takes over the game. The kid is flat-out a game-changer! Their offense then opens up & puts defenses on their heels.... Against HC, should this materialize, then expect a good, old fashioned offensive shootout to ensue!

Kingsbury...... No real chance. Their defense is simply too porous.

Team defense

Team Gm. Yds. Avg.

White Station 9 1295 143.9

Melrose 9 1325 147.2

Brighton 9 1419 157.7

Manassas 9 1471 163.4

Trezevant 9 1489 165.4

I guess Brighton's defense is horrible. They are third in the shelby metro area. They held Liberty to 92 yards. I would say they stink.

You're entitled to your own opinion...even though it is the wrong one.

I have to disagree. One, it is not strictly an option offense. They do not live or die by the option. This team scored 30 on Fairley, 30 on Melrose, 32 on Kingsbury. Coach is not happy with their execution. So, keep giving Melrose props for nothing and we will just see. I'm sure East feels the same as you do, just in reverse. They will just keep winning. Coach has it on the team's t-shirt...Respect is comming...1 win at a time!

Go East! Region 8 - 4A Champions

EastMustang,

I like East. I respect East.

Obviously ya'll have a very solid team this year. That much is very clear. They certaintly executed a whole lot better than Melrose, overall, last Friday nite. The coach might not have been pleased with their execution. All that mattered, though, is that they out-executed (and outscored) their opponent!

For the record: I gave Melrose only the proven props that they deserve. I also pointed out their proven NEGATIVES. Likewise, I gave East its proven props and negatives as well.

In other words, I'm simply an unbiased observer who calls them just like I see them.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now....since I've only seen East play (a real game) once, I can only speak of what I witnessed during that one game. Therefore, EastMustang, if you're suggesting that East's offense has a prolific passing component to it (whereby it has proven its ability to carry the offense, if need be), then I accept that assertion.

What I witnessed last Friday nite, however, is that East's run-option was the pre-dominant offense for East. Their passing game was decent in spots, but weak & extremely inconsistent, overall.

I have not seen the stats but, I would be willing to bet that East ran the ball (mostly via the option) 70 to 80% of the time! The number of points that they scored is immaterial, to this issue. To verbalize that is not strictly option is also effectively immaterial.

The fact remains is this: East did rely on the option, heavily! They would have died without it. It was the VERY thing that East had the most consistent success with vs Melrose.

Acid test: Take away East's option game vs Melrose...What's left: very few yards gained, very few points....A loss!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me be clear: I like East. My wife is an East alumni. I will pull for them and/or any other Memphis area team, throughout the playoffs. In fact, I look forward to driving up to Murfreesboro (hopefully) & rooting for our area teams...

I have absolutely no problem with East running the option as much as they did vs Melrose. It was SMART football, IMO. It was working! What's the point of changing....If it ain't broke don't fix it...

Here's my point, though: In order to defeat HC, IMO, East MUST be able to pass equally and as effectively as they run that option. Against Melrose...Well, the passing game just did not prove itself to be potent enough to accomplish that feat.... Perhaps HC's secondary might turn out to be weaker than Melrose's, hopefully!

    • Fortuitously encountering Clint amidst the ambience of Goodyear this morning sparked an impromptu yet intellectually stimulating conversation, wherein we engaged in a rigorous assessment of prospective candidates for the esteemed role of head football coach. Our discourse, characterized by its spontaneity and depth, led to the formulation of astute observations and discerning judgments regarding the suitability of various individuals for this pivotal position. Allow me to elucidate the fruits of our collaborative contemplation: This commentary endeavors to offer a discerning articulation of my subjective viewpoint, emphasizing a conscientious commitment to maintaining impartiality and refraining from any semblance of derogation directed towards individuals.  Those who possess meritorious qualifications for the esteemed head coaching role, delineated without hierarchical precedence, include: Rennard Woodmore, an esteemed alumnus of the Yellow Jackets, presents a magnificent pedigree, having held prominent positions in head coaching capacities across various regions. His pivotal role as a coordinator for teams contending for state championships further enhances his stature in the realm of football leadership. Kyle Gregory, erstwhile adorned in the resplendent gold insignia, though lacking direct head coaching experience, brings to the fore his invaluable insights garnered as a coordinator for esteemed teams, showcasing an acute understanding of the requisites for triumph whilst attired in the esteemed purple and gold regalia. Steven Jackson, whose contributions transcended mere clipboard duties under the tutelage of Kevin Creasy, emerges as an exceptional candidate for Trousdale County. His prior tenure and triumphs as an assistant coach underscore his suitability for the role. The sole drawback lies in his lack of affiliation with Trousdale County as an alumnus. Brandon Eden's extensive tenure within the chronicles of Trousdale County football, spanning a significant portion of its State Championships, coupled with his successful stints as a coordinator across diverse locales, underscores his candidacy despite a dearth of direct head coaching experience at the high school level. Davy Cothron, while beset by a modest playing career, has emerged as a luminary in offensive strategy, drawing parallels to the transformative appointment of Barker in 2015, thereby warranting consideration for his proven acumen in this realm. Joshua Hackett, notwithstanding his non-alumnus status, has left an indelible imprint across Middle Tennessee, distinguished by his adept curation of formidable defensive units as a coordinator at Watertown, albeit without direct head coaching experience. Kevin Creasy, the epitome of coaching prowess, merits an offer irrespective of his current inclinations, his unparalleled capacity to secure victories transcending geographical and institutional bounds, potentially extending to a role as Director of Schools should it align with his aspirations. Conversely, individuals who have not demonstrably earned the mantle of head coaching, enumerated without sequential precedence, encompass: Brad Waggoner David Barker Paul Pitts Jeremy Pruitt Clint Satterfield Robbie Atwood Wesley Satterfield Ben Johnson BJ West Whom do you all deem most fitting to assume the mantle of the next coach, and what rationale informs your choice? Conversely, whom do you perceive as ill-suited for the role, and what underpins your reasoning for their exclusion?
    • He's a Clinton fan.  But I wouldn't admit that either.
    • Their any schedule out their for team camp?
    • This sums it all up to perfection.
    • Just read the article! In one statement he says he didn’t know the player was academically ineligible yet he also says he met with a teacher in 2022 to discuss putting the player in credit recovery.  I find it hard to believe a Head Coach doesn’t know a player is not eligible; are they not responsible for clearing them to the TSSAA?
