Cookeville Jamboree

Cookeville looked decent tonight against cross county foe Upperman. Final was 7-0. The Cavs defense was Cookeville's strong point. They contained Upperman's option very nicely. Look for Cookeville to open up the season strong against a weak White County team. Also defeated York.

 

York ran some nice mis-direction offense in their quarter against Cookeville. Have some speed coming out of the backfield. Their QB handles the offense nicely. Their defense looked suspect @ times against Cookeville's 2 and 3 receiver formations. The Dragons went on to lose both quarters that they played but I was impressed by the way they moved the ball against 5A Cookeville.

 

Monterey was the most impressive team @ the Jamboree. The freshman running back is the key to them having a successful year. He broke a long touchdown for 56 yds,and had several other impressive touches. Monterey's weakness will be their depth. Injuries @ the skill positions would put Coach Rhodes Wildcats in a tough spot. Monterey won both of their quarters over Upperman and York. Look for Monterey to be a strong competitor in their region if they can stay healthy.

 

Upperman was the weakest team @ the jamboree. They looked confused on defense @ times and their offense never seemed to get on track. Uppermans QB had some open loooks @ his recivers but couldn't connect and seemed overly eager to get rid of the ball while in the pocket. Made some ill advised reads on option plays and got hit pretty hard on an option right against Cookeville. Upperman dropped both quarters they played against Monterey and Cookeville. Look for Upperman to srugle this year under their new head coach.

What makes you so sure Cookeville will have such an easy time with White County? Cookeville has been beaten up some in their scrimmages and the level of competition at their jamboree tonight was a little weak for a 5A team, don't you think?

White County may be weak but they are at least as good as the teams you played tonight.

Upperman's Coach has been a head coach for many years... at Columbia Central, Fairview, Spring Hill, Hickman County, and York.

ELA -my appologies to Coach Wright - I am happy to set the record straight.

 

My thought on Cookeville is that we didn't see their entire "bag of tricks". Coach Joslin will save that for region play. I agree their (Cookevile's) defense did fold somewhat to 3A York but York's misdirection offense was run very nicely as I pointed out in my first post. As far as White county goes....I feel they will strugle (again) to compete @ the 4A and 5A level...

York only lost to Cookeville because they didn't move the ball on their first possession, then punted the ball straight up with Cookeville recovering on the 20 and soon scoring . After that it was all York with York running the ball easily against Cookeville and York outplayed them. A failed 2 point conversion was the difference when they went for the win instead of the easy point after.

The (horrible) punt would be my fault i had never punted in a real game like situation and i guess i was a little nervous so it was my fault but after we all got over the jitters we played well i thought good luck to cookeville and monterey in their season ahead.

How will the 2002 York team compare to last year's team? They were very strong last year and ran the WING very well with their senior TB! Who will replace him this season?

York outplayed them?? what game were you watching? Cookeville's offense had their way with them running nothing but dives. I agree York moved the ball, but come on people...its a jamboree...good luck to all teams.

What game were you watching after the first drive it was all york. York on their second drive ran right down the middle everytime cookeville knew where they were goin and still didn't stop them. but the thing was that york wasn't ready to play when they first came out and let cookeville get ahead of them.
