Lost of similarities, but an entirely different game. I think football players probably would have a lot of respect for rugby players if they stepped on the field and played. I have played both and I can tell you, either is rough. Football has more spectacular collisions, but rugby takes more brute force team effort. Get in a scrum sometime and check it out. You may enjoy it.

My son, who played football and soccer in high school, played Rugby in college in Virginia. He loves it, has finished graduate school, has a high-falutin' job, but continues to play rugby. It is his social and recreational outlet, he was thrilled when he was promoted to the 'A' level team in Richmond.

rugby is a good mix. but id say takes a completely differnt type of being fit to play, more like soccer. and completely differnt type of strategy.

It reminds me of tackle basketball. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  • 2 weeks later...

If you ask me its almost the other way around, football players are people who couldn't handle rugby, lol. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> I mean the only penalty that I have seen called in rugby on TV is "cleating" although apparently you have to dropkick someone in the face to get it called on you cause I remember watching a game between Germany and the US (which apparently they went and got the skinniest people they could find cause these guys were bean poles, lol) and a German player started stomping on the poor US guy and the ref didnt even attempt to call anything, lol.

Rugby and football as well as Australian rules football are all similar but different games. Each demands a high level of fitness even though it's a different fitness for each. With rugby and aussie rules football it requires more stamina for the constant running and contact. Kind of a full contact soccer or something (tackle basketball-------that's a good one there!!! )

There are several similar sports. Like Lacrosse and Hockey. And soccer is similar to them both. But, lacrosse and soccer demand an entirely different conditioning and player build than hockey does usually. By the way, I could be wrong about this but, to the best of my knowledge, lacrosse is a pure American game invented by the American Indians before we even showed up over here. I do know it's fun to watch though. Those guys are insane----especially the goalies!!!! There were a lot of professional games on TV this fall and they were a hoot to watch and they don't have any of the padding hockey players have either!!

    • One final thought. Coach Keith claims he was not aware of the player's failing grades. I won't comment on that, just to say this, IF he did not, whose job was it to see that this kid did not play ball at CHS? That person should be looking for a job and they might be, I don't know.
    • They have fired the principal, 2 teachers, at least 1 counsellor and 1 coach so far. I don't see it from my view in Oak Ridge as a coach thing, he  was just implicated in asking 1 teacher to  fix 1 kid's grades.   In our local media(Clinton and Oak Ridge)the principal is who is the originator and pusher of the fraud. The others are peripheral. The coach isn't even the big story, just here on a sports site.  The media view is the principal did it to cause CHS to be seen as excellent by the state. He committed fraud to do that so he might spend a little time in jail IF that is valid.
    • And from coach himself, he wasn’t told he was let go because of the ineligible player.    that’s just what the schools needed to happen to fit their bull
    • Wish it was made clear before a coach gets let go or not retained instead of being sold as the reason he was in trouble. I was told the kids who got grades changed, 97% or better were non athletes but the coach is taking all the heat so the schools can pretend it wasn’t their job to know. heck, what do you think could happen when you hire husband and wife as head principal and head guidance….   that’s not being said though…
    • Hmmmmm……doe dee doe doe.  Last time I came up there to watch my pirates one of those guys in that pickup trucks flattened the tires on the lawnmower.  This is payback.  You can bet the lawnmower on that.
