Coaches and wrestlers,

The Eastern Region will be sending a team to the Best of the Best Tournament in Memphis. Derek Harrison and Caleb Myers from the Tornado Club at King College will be leading the team this year. This is a great opportunity for East Tennessee wrestlers to show off their skills and gain valuable matches and mat time this summer. Remember summer wrestlers make winter champions!

The tournament is being held in Memphis this year on June 6. I understand it is a long way to travel but the tournament is going to be in East Tennessee next year and if we expect the other regions to come to us we should extend the same courtesy. Each wrestler should get a least 6 matches. Team selection will be open to any wrestler living in the Eastern Region. If we have multiple wrestlers wanting to participate in the same weight class selection will be based on past performances.

Any wrestler wanting to participate or coach wanting additional information should contact:

Thanks,

The Eastern team is looking extremely promising with the weights we currently have filled. We are set to be bringing state placers as well as state champs to represent east TN.

However.... We are still in need of a few weight classes. Of course, the 98lb weight class needed. This is a hard weight class to fill for all parts of the state, but we do not want to be one of the teams giving up points. If anyone knows of anyone that weighs right around 100, please either contact Derek, or leave a post on here. 8th graders that will be upcoming freshman are also able to wrestle in this so keep that in mind.

The weight classes 35 and 40 are still yet to be filled as well. If anyone is interested in representing East TN in these weights or any others please contact Derek with some information so we can put together a strong full team!

Thank you, Caleb Myers

    • A perfect example is for athletes at Clinton High School. I will completely understand, and hopefully everyone should understand why they want to, and as of right now, it looks like that’s going to happen in numbers over the summer.
    • I mean, that’s easy to say when it hasn’t happened to your school that often, if at all, but yeah, I think everybody should be for the student athlete or player. Whatever they think will help them or their athletic career, I feel like they should be able to do that, even if that means transferring schools. Now I don’t really get that when you have almost every offer you could want and then jump ship, but what can I say? I guess money talks.
    • I for one am all for it.
    • Covid killed the city because they chose not to play football in the 2020 season. Therefore, kids weren't able to practice and develop, and continuing to lift weights. Memphis basically had 7/8 graders, skipping a year, then playing 9/10 high school football. Now, there's only one team that has made a "dent" which will be Southwind (made it to the 5A semifinals last year).  If you want to go more suburbs, then it'll be Houston, which won the 6A state title, defeating Oakland Other than that, I agree.
    • It will be hard opening up a restaurant and coaching a High School Football team at the same time but he did take this job as an interm coach to stop the bleed. The program is in scorched earth mode right now and could drop down to the likes of Scott County, Campbell County and Karns if they lose most of their kids out of this.
