Boys 16s Closes State Qualifying

Sean Karl Wins Boys 16s Tennis Title

 

Fifth-seeded Sean Karl won the Tennessee State Qualifying Boys 16s doubles tennis championship on Monday and then topped that this morning morning by upsetting his doubles partner and No.1 seed Maxx Lipman, 7-5, 6-2 for the 16s singles crown.

 

Playing at the Champions Club, Karl (Brentwood) won five matches to claim the title.

 

Included in the wins were triumphs against No.9 Caison Best (Brentwood) in the quarterfinals and No.2 Alex Howard (Brentwood) in the semifinals.

 

Champions crowned on Monday in 18s singles were Will Reynolds (Chattanooga) and Sarah Evans (Chattanooga), while Evans-Misha Testerman (Knoxville) captured Girls 18s doubles, while Chris Schlabach-William Disterdick (Chattanooga/Hixson) won Boys 18s doubles.

 

In Girls 16s, Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin) won in singles and then teamed with Vicki Garcia (Knoxville) for the doubles titles.

 

Next up is the Southern Sectionals 16s in Rome, Ga., while the Southern Sectionals 18s is in Little Rock, Ark.

Boys 18s

 

Singles

 

Fifth: (5) Sawyer Voges (Chattanooga) d. (2) Chris Schlabach (Chattanooga), 6-2, 6-3

 

French Open Juniors: Tennys (pronounced ???tennis'') Sandgren (Gallatin, Tenn.) defeated Marin Dragania (CRO), 6-3, 6-2 earlier today in the second round of the French Open Juniors tournament at Roland Garros in Paris.

 

Sandgren, 17, meets Richard Becker (Germany) in the third round.
