First Annual Battle Of the Boro – Old School – Alumni Baseball Game

Murfreesboro, Tennessee — Oakland and Riverdale baseball plan on making the “Battle of the Boro – Old School” Alumni baseball game an annual event, alternating sites each year between the two ballparks, odd years at Oakland and even years at Riverdale.

Everyone who ever played baseball as a Patriot or a Warrior is encouraged to participate in what should be a great day at the ball yard.

The first Battle will be on March 13, 2010 at Riverdale. A home-run derby will begin at noon. The derby will have an entry fee with the winner receiving half the purse and the other half being donated to the American Red Cross.

The game will begin at 1:00 with the following ground rules. No more than six runs may be scored in an inning. The batter begins with a no ball, one strike count. A courtesy runner for any base runner and for players over a certain age, an optional designated runner to run to first when the batter puts the ball in play.

Admission is $1.00, to be split between the two schools. T-Shirts commemorating the game will be available for $10.00 each for players and fans. We ask you to bring your old O and R hats but we will have some available for purchase.

The winner of the game will gain possession of the Jolly-Draper cup, named after the first coach at each school. We are hoping that 5, 10, 20 and other reunion groups for each school will schedule events around this event.

I have had a couple of calls from folks who saw the ad in the paper and a couple of folks have told me they have heard the radio commercial. Dustin Smith is in charge of Riverdale and Jerry Knox has Oakland. As long as we have enough show up to play a game it should be fun. I am curious to see who wins the home run contest. I hope this gets to a big enough event that we have to have a 70-80's game and a 90-00's game :) T-shirts look nice and trophies will be nice. Should be fun - agreed? I am hoping some parents who have been away since their kids graduated will come back to say hi!

    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
    • Oh yeah, I’m sure you are different people just always on the same thread for some reason, always agreeing with each other, perhaps just a bunch of dorks who would like to ###### and moan about high school football coaches do a lot of other students, so you make a football team and get a yell at them. When they do something wrong, but I’m sure you don’t like that, do you?   and I’m sure I’m aware of where you get information. A teacher who was on the coaching staff but was fired after the new coaching and staff came in and realized he actually had to start taking his assistant job a little bit more seriously than just wanting to make a little extra cash on the side, hardly even showing up to most practices, should’ve left with his buddy to go to Farragut. I’m sure he could get him a defensive coaching job, but I doubt he will be there in three years. Looking at the way Farragut is currently going.
    • It may be hard to believe but there’s more people than me that think you guys are a bunch of losers.    I’m sure the coaching staff, yourself included, cursed at a bunch of high school students. Nobody could name more than 3 coaches on staff due to the constant turnover.
    • That's complete BS.  Nobody at ACHS has access to CHS student records unless a transfer is made from CHS to ACHS.
    • Trez's last scandal has died down, so I guess this is there opportunity to be the best 4A team playing in 2A a la Sissy MTN.  At least they won't be in a Z-district with 1a teams in the regular season.
