FRA vs Davidson Friday Night

One of the biggest games of the Div II A regular season will be played Friday at 6pm at Davidson. Davidson has a very strong team with Alex Warfield and Faith Legate leading the way. Becky Legate (Davidson Coach) always has her girls prepared. Their 11-1 record shows they are ready on the court.

FRA also is having an excellent season with both a strong outside game and a very solid defense. Derica Wyatt leads the team in scoring, threes, and several other categories. This is a young team with only one senior. At 14-2 with losses to CPA and JP II and a win over Blackman they have played a tough schedule.

A side note is that these girls (many of them) have played AAU basketball together. In addition the Davidson boys basketball coach (Kevin Maggard) coached the FRA spring AAU team for two years. He is a great motivator. Watch for an excellent game and probably a close one.

I'm responding largely because there is seldom many posts generated in DII and I miss what we had in AA....especially from a CoachT standpoint. Thanks TSSAA.

FRA should win this game ...they have 2 of the top 3 3-point scorers in all of Middle/East DII both A and AA in Wyatt and Coben (who knows about the West).

FRA lost 1 out of 5 games missing their 6' center Wharton who is now back.

They have an excellent post defender/rebounder in Ford and and a top flight defender in the guard position with Haselton.

Although they are missing a near 9 ppg production out of White who is lost for the season with an ACL they have had sophomores step up and produce.

So FRA should win -but that being said you can tell nothing about the outcome of the DivII A season from this game. DII A has no dominate teams ...it is all about who can peak their team for the tournament. Both these teams could win it all. Davidson has not had much trouble winning their games handily. Think they lost to Macon County by 1.

The "second season" starts tomorrow and the prize will go to the team who has their act together at the end of the season- but tomorrow, we should have a heck of a good game.

    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
    • I think they have they coach they want close to being done. I guess we will all see how this plays out. I hope the hire a good one. There are some players in the box for the next coach to work with.
    • Going to grundle Troy Fleming?
    • I agree I don't think it will go to trial either, but I feel like that will be because no judge would deem this to warrant a law suit... If the school board settles, they loose and all coaches and schools loose too.
