CPA's basketball decade

As DI boys vie for a spot in the sectionals to be one of the final 16 teams left competing for a state tournament bid and championship, I can’t help but reflect on the past decade of basketball for CPA from the players who made it possible and the fans that made it fun. Not a bad decade for CPA basketball.

It began with 3 sectional/sweet l6 appearances (01, 04, 05) including a sectional championship (04), 1 state tournament and 1 state tournament win (04) in the first five years and 1 more sectional championship and state tournament appearance (08) in the last four years. There were 3 region championships (04, 05, 08), played in 4 district tournament championship games (04, 05, 08, 09) winning 2 of those (08, 09), 4 regular season district championships (04, 05, 08, 09) losing a total of only 4 district games over those four years. Total number of wins during the decade was 212.

Candidates for an all-decade/all-varsity team (those who played their senior year during this decade – year graduated in parenthesis) could include Brian Stone (01), Jonathan Russell (02), Clinton Corder (03), Andrew House (04), Zach Ferrell, Austin Hobgood and Travis Sikes (05), Peter Carroll (06), David Anderson, Z Mason and Hunter Miller (09) and Matt Zelenik (10).

Congratulations to all the players and fans who contributed to so many positive moments.

As a part of the Wayne County team during CPA's sub-state runs of 04-05, it was a blast going to y'alls school and playing two years in a row. Wayne Co/CPA played two great games, splitting one each, and we were treated very well. Those two games are something that'll I'll remember forever.

Couldn't agree more with you and there was tremendous respect for those strong Wayne County teams, great competition.
