WRESTLING COMMUNITY,

 

DOUG NEWMAN (2009 TN. WRESTLING HALL OF FAME COACH)IS THE NEW WRESTLING COACH AT NASHVILLE STRATFORD HIGH SCHOOL. HE IS STARTING THIS PROGRAM IN A VERY POOR SECTION OF TOWN. HE SAID "THE KIDS ARE GREAT, BUT POOR AS CHURCH MICE". ONLY HALF OF HIS WRESTLERS HAVE WRESTLING SHOES. THE OTHERS PRACTICE IN THEIR SOCKS. THEY ARE LOOKING FOR USED, CHEAP OR "FREE" WRESTLING SHOES.

 

I AM SURE THIS IS NOT AN UNIQUE PROBLEM. THAD LITTLE SENT OUT A MESSAGE TO ALL OF THE COACHES EARLIER THIS YEAR WANTING TO COLLECT USED SHOES TO GIVE TO UNDER PRIVILEGED WRESTLERS. THAT WAS A NOBLE EFFORT AND I FIGURED HE WOULD GET HUNDREDS OF PAIRS. I TOLD COACH NEWMAN ABOUT THAT AND CONTACTED THAD. HE SAID THAT NO ONE SENT HIM ANYTHING.

 

I KNOW THAT MOST WRESTLERS HAVE SEVERAL PAIRS OF SHOES. I REALIZE THAT SOME OF THEM MIGHT BE VERY SENTIMENTAL. BUT, THERE IS A GREAT NEED OUT THERE. PLEASE SHARE YOUR GOOD FORTUNE AND WEALTH WITH OTHERS.

I tried to do the same type of thing this and received exactly ZERO pairs. Don't know if I was more dissapointed or shocked.

Coach....I'm not sure if they are actually keeping them for sentimental value. We, here at Seymour, donate used wrestling shoes to the AAU program and to our middle schoolers...by the time they are through with them the soles are gone.

If Coach Newman would have been at school on Tue he would have received the shoes he requested from the local referee's association. Since he wasn't he will have to wait until Monday to receive them.

 

THAT IS AWESOME. IT IS HARD TO RECIEVE A BLESSING IF YOUR NOT A SCHOOL. THANKS TO THE NASHVILLE AREA OFFICIALS. THIS TYPE OF THING IS WHAT MAKES OUR SPORT SO GREAT.

IT SOUNDS LIKE COACH NEWMAN IS HAVING ONE OF HIS WISHES GRANTED. BUT I AM SURE THERE ARE MANY MORE WISHES. PLEASE DO WHAT YOU CAN THIS WINTER TO HELP YOUR WRESTLING TEAMS IN YOUR AREA. THERE ARE MANY NEEDS OUT THERE.

 

IF YOU OR YOUR CHILD HAS A PAIR OF WRESTLING SHOE THAT ARE NOT BEING USED. PLEASE DONATE THEM TO ONE OF THE MANY WRESTLING PROGRAMS. MOST OF THE TEAMS HAVE KIDS WRESTLING THAT COULD USE THEM.

I CALLED COACH NEWMAN TO FUSS AT HIM FOR LAYING OUT OF SCHOOL YESTERDAY. HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAD HERNIA SURGURY YESTERDAY MORNING. I GUESS HE HAD A PRETTY GOOD REASON FOR MISSING. KEEP HIM IN YOUR PRAYERS. PRAY FOR A SPEEDY RECOVERY. I CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR "SHOOT THE HALF" RING RINGING THRU THE GYM.

I appreciate everything the referee's association does. I will be sore but I will be at practice today (Monday) as long as I can hopefully, 2:30 til 4:00. Our first match is tommorrow.

 

It like I have always heard "If you don't have a hernia you have not been caring your share of the LOAD"

      One school has said it, it was York…who Oneida and many school that played them before we did claimed that they were the dirtiest bunch they’ve played. Riverside didn’t call us dirty nor did smith after they beat us. Ur only dirty if your the one giving out the whoopins.

      If it was anyone but #8 I would agree with you. Theirs a couple people on that team that probably would. Not him. And I who was standing on the 1st base line fence saw clearly that the boys foot was covering more than half the bag.

      I'm not a Powell grad.  I am a Bearden grad.   My son and daughter are Powell grads.   I did radio play by play for Powell, my last year was 2013. I also did radio play by play for South Doyle, and my last gig was at Maryville before I retired.   My oldest grandson plays in the Karns Middle program, so I see more Karns games than I do Powell these days.  I've been to 3 Powell games since 2013.   I don't have any ties to Powell, haven't since 2013.   No "y'all" there.    And the kid you are talking about does have a very good arm, but he's not the QB that Deuce Rogers is.  Rogers is a legit dual threat guy.  The younger kid now at Clinton, or about to be at Clinton, isn't the dual threat that Rogers is.
