Coaches:

The 2011 Middle Tennessee Wrestling Officials Association Grand Championship is scheduled for

Saturday, January 22, 2011 at McGavock High School.

The fee for this year’s tournament is $100.00 per team (or $15 per individual), and checks are to be made

payable to:

The Middle Tennessee Wrestling Officials Association or MTWOA.

The Grand Championship is a single day tournament that is open to all freshman level wrestlers and 12

invited middle school wrestling teams in Middle Tennessee.

The freshman division will utilize the TSSAA Varsity Division weight classes plus a 95 lb class (95, 103,

112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215 and 285).

Each weight class is plus two pounds for growth allowance.

Based on the number of individual entries during the seeding meeting, Friday

January 21, 2011, 7:00PM at McGavock High School, weight classes may be split to limit the brackets to a

maximum of 16 wrestlers per weight class.

The freshman division will be a double elimination format. Wrestlers not placed during the seeding meeting or those that do not make their weight at weigh-in, will be placed in the next available open bracket for that weight class. There will be no re-seeding of brackets the day of the tournament. The freshmen division is for 9th Grade wrestlers only.

ALL ENTRIES ARE DUE BY 9PM WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 19th

The middle school division (invitation only) will be a dual match format, and will use the TMSAA weight

classes (76, 83, 91, 98, 106, 113, 119, 125, 131, 141, 151, 165, 185 and 250). Each weight class is plus two

pounds for growth allowance. The teams will be placed into pools, with each team wrestling their pool

members. The final two rounds will consist of inter-pool competition based on placement within the

original pool. Middle school teams will be expected to fill at least 11 of the 14 weight classes.

Open Middle School teams, please contact PA Bowler directly.

Middle School weigh-in begins at 7am, with competition beginning at 8am.

Freshman weigh-in begins at 7:30am, with competition beginning at 9am.

The 2 lbs. growth allowance will be in effect for both divisions.

Please address any questions regarding team scheduling to Jonathon Williams (Freshman) (615) 504-7200

Just Bringing this back up. If any coach does not get the info on entering your wrestlers please email or contact me, via the website. https://sites.google.com/site/freshmengrandchampionships/

Thank you.

The tournament is on as scheduled. All wrestlers will receive an extra pound due to some schools not being allowed to practice today. As of this morning there are 270 freshmen registered, which may be a record for our tournament. We know some will not be able to participate but are looking forward to ones that are.

    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
    • I heard Alabama was at Antioch practice and Colorado has offered QB. Hoping the Bears have a great year.
