nugget
5 sport dad i agree with you. people say that he was a bad coach. I dont see how you can say that when he came in the program was down and had absolutely no talent, community never gave him a chance. Now he is at a school in Louisville that is top 25 in the country. Shocker there. If he some social skills and the community would have gave him a chance he would have done great things for Greenbrier basketball.
5-Sport Dad
If the 'community' had a clue, I'd agree, but I hold the admin/AD responsible. They're WEAK!...AND, nobody up here cares about basketball. Like I've always said, it's the step-child. Just look at the turnover in coaching. Then, look at what our best-ever talent did: TRANSFERRED! or quit. Rumor and Coach Ward's lockerroom 'social' skills were probably the reason. That and the fact that he told players AND their parents the truth about their talent. Being honest hurt him. But, don't it always?
nugget
Yup, like they say truth hurts but its TRUTH. I see nothing wrong playing a more talented freshman over a junior or senior but the comm. didnt and doesnt see it that way. rumor is what they are rumors doesnt mean any of it is true. nd1fan
Bontrager is the best private period. No one gets more out of his players with less. If he recruited like ricky he would be winning state titles year in and year out. Good coach and great person. Ensworth fans can say what they want but everyone knows ricky recruits

You can give financial aid but it is not supposed to be tailored just for athletes which is how ensworth does it.
kbrks
You can give financial aid but it is not supposed to be tailored just for athletes which is how ensworth does it. I do believe that is correct. DI and DII are bound by the same limited recruiting rules which says students can be "recruited" at official school functions where the purpose is to present the school (an admissions open house) or if a parent and student are on an official school visit based on a parent contacting the school to set up such a visit. Even after the visit it does not give the school the right to continue recruiting/contacting the student. Coaches don't even have the right to recruit during summer camps, during AAU practices or game, private lessons, etc. Those setttings must stay specific to the "advertised" purpose - sport and skill instruction within that venue. The difference is DII can give need based financial aid to its entire student population, including athletes, whereas DI can only give need based financial aid to its non-athletes. Legal recruiting is dependent on following those rules. So who is legal based on the actual rules and who needs to self-report?
9aafan
You can give financial aid but it is not supposed to be tailored just for athletes which is how ensworth does it. So Ensworth school is just all athletes?
nd1fan
So Ensworth school is just all athletes? No but they apply most of their financial aid to good athletes while other schools apply it to all students.
pecos
No but they apply most of their financial aid to good athletes while other schools apply it to all students. Where are you getting your information? Your statement is just not true. There is way more need based financial aid at Ensworth to non-athletes than athletes and the total aid is a lot less than you would think. As an example; on the current boys basketball team out of the top 12 players only three are getting any aid. Oh, and by the way, 7 of the 12 players (and 5 of the top 6) all started Ensworth in Pre-first and 2 others came in 7th grade.
RedRobin
No but they apply most of their financial aid to good athletes while other schools apply it to all students. That, sir, is a flat out lie. You may be posting here anonymously, but that does not give you license to fabricate falsehoods about others. Next time, please have the common decency to check facts before you smear an institution and all affiliated with it. If you really have it in for Ricky or for Ensworth, at least come up with something that is halfway factual.
Justball
Let me hear what you got! Seems that there are alot of strong opinion on the coaching at the Nashville area schools. I would really like to know where all the "opinons" would send their kid?
