Play Day in Blount County

If any of you plan to be at the play day in Blount County this weekend, what are you wanting to see? Weather looks to be good and plenty of teams will be represented. Let us know what you think?

I think everyone saw what they expected -- not much. Most teams in this playday just wanted to get on the field and give all players the opportunity to get some swings in. Most of the teams I saw did not have all their starters in place. Some players were still in basketball last week. This was the first real test for the coaches to see what they really have.

Maryville looked very small, and they are young this year. They always seem to pull it out in the end though.. Powell was missing a couple of players and didn't show much. Alcoa held there own but their district is pretty weak. They should do well with the addition on their new pitcher to help Green out.

Heard William Blount did well, but you never saw their true starters on the field at one time. Tuck only pitched a few innings which is what most coaches did with their ace's. No reason to prove anything this early.

The next couple of weeks will get interesting with scrimmages and more playdays. Coaches should have their starter set and the season will be off and running..... See you there......

I also thought William Blount looked pretty good, although they did not have everybody. Jefferson County did not "wow" me, but was a very solid team and played aggressive. Central and Karns also looked game ready when I saw them. Now the real question is how much improvement do the others make between now and game one?

Anyone know if any of the Blount County teams will be in anymore playdays? Season doesn't start for 2 weeks. I know the Beech playday is coming up in a couple of weeks but not sure if any of our teams are heading to Nashville area. Should be a good playday with a lot of great teams.

    • I think Alcoa and Westview are favorites in top bracket and Huntingdon and Meigs in bottom bracket.  Westview and Huntingdon both have great pitching.  I think Huntingdon has more offense than Westview.
    • Starting to pick up for Sam. He has 4 or 5 offers now and more on the way. By mid season the Warriors should have 5 or 6 kids with offers.
    • Gleason all over west Carroll in scrimmage. Gleason is big and fast
    • Defending 2A state Champs Westview Lady Chargers are pretty tough. They lost a bunch of production off last year's squad but returned some talent as well. They still McCall Simms, a Tennesseee Lady Vol softball commit as well as solid talent around the diamond. I dont think they are as good as last season but they will definitely be a tough out. Huntingdon Lady Mustangs seem to be pretty stout as well. Don't know much about Riverside other than Westview defeated them earlier in regions. West Tennessee softball is pretty solid all around id say.
    • Eagleville couldn’t catch up to Jones, he did have his location issues but in that game Eagleville popped up everything and the one hit they did have could have been ruled an error. Jeffcoat was a lot sharper in the beginning of the season last year than the end. ER ran out of pitching and still was in striking distance but none the less the better team one. Last seasons tournament was A LOT more balanced and talented. South Pitts starter is a Lefty who was low 80’s but couldn’t maintain his velo throughout the  outing, their #2 was more impressive last year, we knocked him around this year and his mph was down some. Their #3 isn’t bad neither, throws a lot of strikes and sits high 70’s.
