What is the RULE?

Ok, all you rules educated, TSSAA fearing, board dwellers.... tell what the rule is!!

Was at a girls game last week and a ref made a ruling regarding a team and their head bands. You know the little elastic bands or rolled up pre-wrap they use to hold their hair back. Won't taint the answers by describing the call. Just wondering what the RULES are.

If I'm not mistaken the headband color much match the uniform color - but I've rarely seen it enforced.

It is my understanding that they don't have to match the uniform color but do all have to be the same color themselves.

e.g. If one girl decides to wear a black one then all the her teammates have to wear black ones as well.

Head bands must be a neutral color (Black, white, tan, gray) or a school color, and all MUST be the same color.

Good Call smitty. That is the rule as it is written. That is interesting. I attended 2 games last week. The first a team wore lime green shoe laces and head bands in recognition of a young student in the community that had recently passed away. The second game I attended one team wore pink shoes and head bands calling attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Feb. In the first game the team was allowed to honor their lost peer. In the second the team was told to remove the head bands. I know that in the second game the refrees required the removal of the head bands at the hands of the opposing coach.

Should this go into the pile of examples of inconsistant refrees or inconsiderate coaches??

For what it's worth, the color of shoe laces and shoes are not defined in the rule book. Also, the TSSAA has granted permissions in the past that allowed schools to support "Breast Cancer Awareness" by wearing "pink" uniforms or headbands or wristbands. Usually a letter is sent to all schools involved to avoid confusion.

So it may not be so much 'inconsistent referees' as thought. Don't know about the 'inconsiderate coaches', but I have my personal thoughts if the coach demanded the removal of headbands that represented "Breast Cancer Awareness". Sometimes I guess, "common sense" is dictated only by a letter from the TSSAA.

The post about the neutral colors and team colors is correct... also correct is that there is no rule regarding shoe strings. Also, there was a letter sent to schools regarding breast cancer awareness and to make preparations to "do something" to represent breast cancer awareness. The normal referee whistle is black...during this time the refs used pink ones provided by TSSAA. By rule, you can't wear the pink headbands, but if I was a ref and the opposing coach said something, I would probably look at him/her and say "are you kidding me???"

Sometimes coaches (refs) forget what it's all about. If that coach had lost a loved one due to cancer, s/he would have been proud to see those pink headbands. :)

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
