EHS comes off a tough loss to Science Hill

Happy Valley comes off a blowout win over Unaka

Breakdown time? I think so.

EHS played bad against Science Hill. No excuses, they couldn't make a tackle for anything and threw 2 critical picks. We couldn't find our receivers and our line couldn't block. We had a few moments of glory late in the 2nd quarter and midway through the 4th but other than that it was blah. #33 RB for SH blistered us and the QB #5 kept breaking through right up the middle. This was definitely not the same SH that played Greeneville. Some of the mistakes they made against Greeneville they cleaned up this game. They still didn't play like a 6A school should have but a win is a win.

((Before the Gville fans get their panties in a wad I meant that the mistakes you said SH made..they didn't make those same mistakes))

Don't know anything about the HV game but it was against Unaka so not really a shocker there that they won.

Now on to HV and EHS

Big Rivalry game, EHS is coming off a loss and will be looking to take out frustrations on someone. Unfortunately HV is the next team they play and it happens to be a big rivalry game. I don't put any stock into HV's 2 wins because of the teams they played. Central is a joke of a team and Unaka will be lucky to win a game this year(unfortunately). Confidence wise HV is coming in strong with 2 solid wins. And a win is a win. So this is EHS with something to prove and HV with high confidence. It will be a good game. I don't think this one will be close. From what i have been told and know HV doesn't have the skills to match up to EHS.

just a side rant: Wish they would play this game at EHS every year and just split the gate. More seating, more parking area, and with EHS and HV there is no such thing as home field advantage.

Also, if EHs gets the chance I wouldn't put it past them to try and run up the score. They have done it in years past and will probably do it again to drive home the point.

EHS: 49

HV: 24

Happy Valley cupcake games are over! Time to find out what your made of! My prediction is total shock when they get a dose of the Cyclones. Emotion will be high as EHS will be pissed after this lose to SH. Buckle it up tight HV and bring alot of ice cause it will be a long night! After seeing our defense play so tough I think we route the Warriors and make a statement as defending Conference Champs!

Cyclones------42

Warriors------ 7

Go Cyclones!!! #75 never forgotten!!!!!!!

I was trying to be kind to allow them 21 :( I'd like to hold them to 3 or less ideally :D :D

PS: To any Unaka fan that reads my first post. I'm not throwing off on your team personally. But rather the fact that Happy Valley will brag about blowing you guys out. They will also brag about beating a larger Central but reality check is that in the last few years central hasn't won many games at all. So yes, I guess I am taking away from HV victories but until they beat a legit team they will always be a step below EHS.

I noticed this year no Happy Valley threads have been made. Big surprise as usually they have at least 2 or 3 very vocal fans. Maybe this will draw some attention from them. For the Happy Valley people that decide to wave those stupid "Got Shively" signs, stuff it. We don't a Science Hill reject who led Science Hill to some of their worst seasons, I'd take witten over any other conference coach we go against.

I hope you guys are right and it is a blow out. For it to be EHS will have to play a lot better on offense. This game is probably for the conference title unless North has something. I hope EHS gives it to Turner about 25 times and let him go because HV cannot keep up with him.

I don't think they will be meaner and I definitely don't think they will be tougher. I think they will be cocky and overconfident from their 2 "wins". EHS will be by far the toughest team HV plays all season. Their schedule is a joke. Hampton? Unaka? Central? Abingdon?(0-1 this season, 14-17 last 3 seasons), Daniel Boone? Until they add some bigger schools that stand a chance of beating them, Science Hill, South, etc. Heck even a tough 4 or 5a school even, I wouldn't consider them tough at all.

That being said, I feel the winner of this game will win the conference unless North has something up their sleeve.

I look for HV to play EHS tough, but EHS's speed will ultimately prevail. But, I think it will probably be a fun game to watch with lots of emotion. Unlike the SH vs EHS game, HV and EHS . . . just plain ole, don't like each other. Speed and overall athleticism wins out in this one.

Betsy by a tough 14.

I don't see the overconfident thing. If HV would have actually beat Betsy last year or any in the last few years, overconfidence could possibly sneak in there. But the cyclones are the top of the food chain, like it or not.

I will rewind to last year, when if you were told it would be a 3 point ballgame, you would have laughed the guy off here. The thing I saw was , for the first time that I had saw, Witten seemed a bit under prepared for the ball game. I don't expect that 2 years in a row.

HV looks to be comfortable running their offense, unlike last years game. But they are a young team. If Sullivan Central, could tackle, the game would have been closer. If betsy has that problem again, it could cost them. Lotta if-then scenarios as always.

I can't remember which paper said it, put it allowed EHS was weak on defense. The way the handled Boone and hung in there with SH, I wonder about the validity of that statement.

I hope its a goon ballgame. If EHS comes out fast, it may be over as fast. If they allow HV to stay close all game, then we could be looking at an upset.

yeah, EHS defense has been a little inconsistent. During the SH game it showed in particular. Sometimes EHS would make the big stops but other times #33 and #5 would run it down our throats and it looked like we were trying to catch a greased pig.

If EHS fixes that and makes it consistent we will be a lot better off obviously lol

I think 33 and 5 will be hard for alot of teams to stop and we have to remember our defense was on the field along time the first half and we have alot of boys that play on both the offensive and defensive lines. We have to remember this was a 3A vs 6A and i thought we done a fairly good job.Now is there room for improvement yes and i would say that it will start on monday. GO Cyclones

During the SH game we were playing a very well coached team with a smart QB! It was just some missed assignment. And in every game your goin have that. Your good plays just have to out way the bad! Plus SH would rotate 4 guys to our 2,numbers beat you alot. This week numbers are even and not the same caliber coaching. Look for a big game for #15,#7,and #31 offensivly. Defense wil be just fine and solid! SH will put up alot of points this year, should finish 7-3! I still say North will be for championship, but they play cupcake teams to,which is a plus for the Cyclones!

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
