Southern Scuffle

I thought the Southern Scuffle was a GREAT tournament this year. Not only were there some great match ups, but the UTC staff did a great job of involving the crowd and getting the wrestlers interacting with the fans which is something that does not happen at Nationals. Also the sweet Scuffle Corn Hole boards that the winning team got!

I’m just curious what everyone else thought about the tournament, likes, dislikes, some more cool ideas like throwing headgear signed by the coaches and finalist? Just wanted to see some thoughts.

Nearly Perfect tournament in my view. Great seeing folks you usually see in magazines & online. Always a reunion for me. Dake was a kick & thrilled to sign head gears, brackets tickets & so on. Saw John smith gladly sign kids stuff. He, I even considered having the 2x Olympic gold medalist sign my balding spot with a sharpie. :)

More variety in concessions may be good... Officiating may need a little tweaking? Over all impressive though! Note: Mara told me he would have allowed an escape and let Dake & Taylor go into OT to decide. WHAT A HISTORICAL MATCH RIGHT IN CHOO CHOO TOWN!!

Cody,

From all accounts I have heard from those that attended (as I wasn't able to attend...hopefully next year), the tournament was nothing but a success.

There is nothing better than having our wrestling heroes interact with the youth of TN/GA in terms of building the sport and Coach Eslinger is an outstanding coach and mentor that we are all lucky to have at UT-C.

It was a great two day event with excellent talent from all over. Coach E and his crew did an excellent job of organization. John Lennon on the public address system was hilarious and I am glad he is a Cleveland alumni. I get why they ran four matches during the finals, but it makes it really difficult to really watch all four matches. I cannot imagine that anybody watched more than one match during the Taylor-Dake collision.

    • The people need our help!
    • Lol when was last time they won region or got past the 3 rd round.
    • Gravedigger gotta finish filling the hole before hitting 40 East. May need a new Yellow Shirt play signaler on the Stones. And apparently a new strength coach now. Cicadas must've got shaken out of the bushes in Donelson. Hopefully the mower man sticks around to keep DG field looking pristine. Maybe new OC can call in a favor to his PGA friends that knows a thing or two about being green during the season. The heat is on soon. Bring in the 2 way freak Iceman and cool things off. He knows a thing or 2 about wildcats. Gotta take our talents South soon for Nationals. Don't step on my blue suede shoes.
    • I think this goes on a lot more than most people know, maybe not finishing an entire geometry class in 90 minutes. This situation seems special.
