Tuesday begins the last series of what may be the best season in 7AAA in years.

Riverdale leads the district at 9-3 but have played in five (5!) extra inning games,

Winning 2-0 in 12 innings in the district-opener vs Smyrna, a 4-3 10-inning win

against Blackman, a 3-2 loss in 9 innings versus Blackman, and the last two

games with Siegel, a 7-3 win in 8 innings and a 8-7 win in ten innings.

Add to those a 1-0 and 3-1 win against Smyrna, a 2-0 win over Blackman and a

4-2 loss versus Siegel. A lot of games that could have gone either way.

Blackman (8-4) had those two extra-innings games with Riverdale, a 4-3 win over

Oakland in 8 innings, and a series with Siegel with 5-4 and 2-1 wins and a 3-2 loss,

a series of 3 one-run games. The Blaze also had a 9-inning 1-0 win over Smyrna and

a 2-1 win over the Bulldogs. Again, a lot of games that could have gone either way.

Lavergne (7-5) had a series with Oakland where they won 4-2 and 2-0 and loss 0-1.

They also had a 1-0 win over Siegel and a 3-2 loss to Smyrna

Oakland (7-5) - see Lavergne series above, had a 7-6 9-inning win against Smyrna,

a 1-0 win over the Bulldogs, and a 5-4 win over Siegel.

Siegel had those 3 1-run games against Blackman, the 1-0 loss to Lavergne,

the 5-4 loss and 0-2 loss to Oakland and the two extra-innings losses to Riverdale.

And Smyrna, the season of could-have-been....

2-0 loss in 12 innings, followed by a 1-0 and 3-1 loss to Riverdale.

a 7-6 in 9 innings and a 1-0 loss to Oakland.

a 2-1 and 1-0 in 9 innings loss to Blackman

and a 3-2 win over Lavergne.

Smyrna could easily be 8-4 right now. That is how

close the games have been this year in 7AAA.

This sets up a great last week of the season and

what may be the best, most-fun-to-watch, district tournament we

have had in years!

For those interested in such stuff, here is how the teams rank in

    • Now that wouldn’t surprise me a bit. That has been going on heavily since the days of Larry Kerr @ AC. One of the major reasons CC has never really had much at all, barring about 2 seasons in football. AC milks it dry.
    • Interesting how quite it is. Rumors are going around that Anderson County is being looked at by TSSAA for recruiting violations with the Campbell County transfers.
    • I heard from a member of the teaching staff that there has been a dispute over use of the game field between football, and girls lacrosse team. Girls had a game and wanted to warm up and football coaches did want to leave. The football coaches came down hard with some bad vulgar language and the girls lacrosse backed down. What a classy act BHS athletics has become.
    • The lawsuit requests a jury trial. Sable Winfree has extremely competent legal representation. FYI - her lawyer represented the Warren County school system for years, and I believe he knows what constitutes a reasonable lawsuit.
