Hello everyone, I hope everyone is excited to get the freestyle/greco season started!   Last fall the Tennessee Wrestling Federation launched a new Developmental program in efforts to provide preparation and direction for our kids to compete in regional and national events.   There is no secret to what is going help our kids get to that next level, we have to get them training and competing together...iron sharpens iron.  Our first training session was held in September and turned out to be a huge success!.  There were 40 athletes who participated in the training session including four All-Americans and 12 National Team members!  Everyone had a great weekend of training and we’re definitely looking forward to the April session!

To add to the upcoming training session, we have decided to incorporate a few big additions to the weekend.  First off, we are bringing in coaching legend, Russ Cozart, of the Brandon, FL program to run the camp.  Coach Cozart will help our state incorporate training and tactics to win at all levels and we are very excited to offer this opportunity to the athletes and coaches of Tennessee.  We are also offering a USA Bronze Level Coaching Certification course.  A Bronze Level Certification is required at all USAW Regional and National events and provides very useful information for coaches of all levels.  Our new statewide athlete-officials program will also be introduced at that time.  Potential National Team members will now be able to earn money towards their TWF sponsored trips by officiating at our events.  This is going to be a great weekend for all athletes and coaches.  Here is the information for the next action-packed training weekend:

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
