Sophomore midfielder Soni Whalen scored two goals and senior Baylee Burk had a goal and an assist to lead Soddy Daisy to a 5-1 District 5-AAA girls soccer win against host Ooltewah Tuesday night.

Carly Pifer and Kelsey Henry also scored for the victorious Trojans.

Ooltewah's goal came in the 76th minute by Olivia Tawzer.

Soddy Daisy improves to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in District 5 AAA, while the Owls are 2-3-0 overall an 0-1-0 in the district.

"It was a good win overall for our first district match," said Soddy Daisy coach Moises Drumond.

"We are at our best when we work quickly, play two touch, play the ball wide and serve in the middle. When we did this we were able to score from several spots on the field."

18th Birthday: Ooltewah senior Mallorie Meneley turned 18 today ... a four-year starter and two-year captain ... active in FCA.  "Mallorie is one of our most consistent players the past four years ... she reads the game really well," said Ooltewah coach Richard Adolph.

"We worked hard the entire match and our players were rewarded with the nice goal at the end," said coach Adolph. "We appreciate the support of our fans and it was exhilarating score at the end."

Tough in the Net: Ooltewah goalkeeper Kendall Goodwin made three diving stops among her 10, first half saves.

Next Match: Tues. Sept. 9 - Soddy Daisy at Cleveland; Ooltewah vs. CSTHEA

    • Wanted to see if all of you would lift up Kyle James family in prayer. Kyle was one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of Soddy Daisy and as some of you know he lost his house a few weeks ago and now his family and friends mourns his passing. Not sure if any of you were around in early 2000’s when Kyle was wrestling at Soddy, but he was a 3 time state champ and a Fargo AA along with going to Colorado to train to make the Olympic team. That goal was never reached due to medical issues, but he was an amazing wrestler and his family is as good as gold. If you were around at that time and have any pictures of Kyle, please go onto Alexy Winesburgh FB page and post. Thanks, Doug Benton
    • My opinion the 8 teams will be-  Greenback, Wartburg, Gordonsville, Jo Byrns, Eagleville, Bruceton, Dresden, and South Fulton. Gordonsviile is probably the favorite but I wont say it will be an easy road. With the right draw any of the 8 could win it.
    • I understand Gibson Co. will be announced tomorrow with a familiar name. Not sure about So. Gibson.
    • A huge addition to the staff today! Former Hardin Valley legend and Richmond College running back Aaron Dykes was announced as the running backs coach. Rushed for over 3,000 yards at HVA, with 35 total touchdowns. I loved watching in Hardin Valley. I can’t believe he’s at Bearden now. I know he was trying to get a HVA job, I don’t know what happened there and how he ended up at Bearden, but I'm glad he’s here and believe he will be teaching art class as well! What a good get for the staff!!
    • Thoughts? Gordonsville won it last year with a sophomore pitcher and returned almost everybody. Can anyone beat them?
