Oak Ridge had some teams in the early 90's that were ranked nationally.

I think they were No. 19 in the U.S.A Today poll in 95.

Oh that was right before Morristown West beat them that year.

Castle Heights Military Academy went bankrupt several years ago. The property was sold & converted into office bldgs.,city dept. offices,restaurant, etc.

Don't remember the reason.

Lincoln County has a rich tradition in Tennessee high school football. The program started in 1979 and since then has posted a record of 199 wins and 81 losses, that's 72% of their games. Post Season appearances include:

1980 Lions Bowl (Won 21-0 over Riverdale)

1981 Boyce Smith Bowl (Won 7-0 over Franklin)

1982 State Champions (Beat Gallatin 13-10 in OT)

1983 -1986 State Playoffs (Quarterfinalists in 1986)

1988 State Playoffs (Lost to Oakland in Semi-Finals)

1989 Lions Bowl (Beat Overton 14-6)

1990 State Champions (Beat Germantown 25-13)

1992 State Playoffs

1993 State Champions (Beat Riverdale 20-7)

1994-2002 State Playoffs

That's 21 post season appearances in 24 years, with a record of 26 wins and 15 losses. Their 3 State Championship wins came against the likes of Riverdale, Gallatin, and Germantown. All three of those temas are considered as the best teams in State history. Lincoln County has developed 4 Mr. Football winners: David Grogan in 1993, Chad Henderson in 1994, Antonio Manning in 1996, and Jay Thompson in 1997. As of 2001, 57 Falcon football players have been awarded scholarships. If this doesn't qualify a team for the title of the BEST, then something's wrong with the standards.

Powerset... Not to argue, but Milan was AA in '98 and AAA in '99 which supports your point. Jumping up a classification the next year and winning a state title is impressive. We might see Milan with another back to back title run this year and next.

 

Milan gets the nod for West Tennessee.

knox. central and maryville have the best programs in the state. both teams have great coaching and great players year end and year out. maryville has the state championships but central has the rich tradition and always give those rebels a run for their money.
